Well remember, we've only been used to October Platinum releases. Disney's new release strategy doesn't necessarily mean that a lower quality platinum title would get a release in March and then a better one in October.
I agree with some of the other posts though, we need some sort of evidence that Cinderella will be released. Can someone find a link or something. I'm just going to go and have a look around myself!

Evidence

Post by Ric-Mx »

Well, after I've got the rumor, I checked it via e.mail at the disneylatino.com
Then I called "Linea Disney" and 01-800 phone service for Mexico.

**Something very strange is that both Cinderella and the Lion King are premiering on Diney DVD (Mex) the same day, October 10th**

It is very suspicious thar Disney will release (on any country) two of the greatest classics the same season. .. even the same day...

If all of this is totally true (and it seems to), the titles (animated classics)that officialy premiered on DVD this year (2003) in Mexico were:

The Rescuers - January
Beauty and The Beast Special Collector's Edition (2-Disc Set)- February
101 Dalmatians (Re-release of the Limited Issue Discs)- March
Sleeping Beauty Deluxe Edition (2-Dic Set)- April
Treasure Planet (1-Disc)- April
Peter Pan Special Edition (1-Disc)- July
Pinocchio Special Edition (1-Disc) - July
Cinderella Deluxe Edition (2-Disc Set)- October
The Lion King Special Collector's Edition (2-Disc Set) - October

Those seem to be too much... don't you think so?

About Cinderella release, it's likely to be the Region 1 March Platinum, although no one will give me the specs about it since the staff at Disneylatino.com or Linea Disney "don't know it yet" and sometimes they admit they're not allowed to tell.

See... The Rescuers premiered here on January (beginnings) and was released on the US by the end of May, around 5 moths (little less)
Sleeping Beauty premiered here April 11th and will premiere on the US on september (again, around 5 months)
So, if Cinderella premieres here on October, and then you add five months for the US release it will be... March!!!

I think the main reason Walt Disney Company Mexico is releasing the Animated Classics faste is the PIRACY problem the country has.
At many popular places (not offcial video or music stores) you can find unnoficial DVD's of ANY Disney Classic, even Bambi and Cinderella, and I can say thet they're far superior from the Malasian of China Bootlegs. This Mexican "pirat" DVD's are Laserdisc quality (for video), with Spanish Track (DD 2.0) and even more tracks and nice covers!!!

I like your thinking Ric, and yes, it is a lot of animated classics in one year - but I'm sure you're not complaining! :)

This is the first DVD release of any kind, any place for Cinderella, if I'm not mistaken.

Hmm...well it seems (to me at least) that Cinderella's even more likely to be the March Platinum title. So many hints scattered throughout the web have been pointing to it and I really do hope it ends up being true because then two of my favorite Disney films (Cinderella and Aladdin) will become platinums the same year. If Cinderella isn't released March of 2004 I'm 99.9% positive it'll be released March of 2005 with The Little Mermaid being the October 2004 platinum release. To sum it all up, Cinderella and Pinocchio are the two Walt-era platinums that are gonna be released first, the question is in what order. But like I said, too many hints and and sources have been scattered for Cinderella not to be the next platinum after Lion King. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed! :D

Of course not, but Disney does have the holiday season to consider for planning what DVDs come out when. I think that was the point trying to be made. As for Cinderella being the March 2004 release, anythings possible, and Ric's research on Mexico's releases compared to the US' does seem to point in that direction. I still am suspicious of the fact that two HUGE films are being released on the same day down there. However, we are getting Sleeping Beauty and The Lion King just a month apart. I think whatever March's Mystery Platinum is, it will have a trailer on The Lion King's DVD or maybe even Sleeping Beauty's.

Hmmm, now there's an idea........Mystery Platinums... ..

Still no news..

Disneylatino hasn't confirmed the specs for Cinderella's release...
They just inform about an Special Edition, but "can't say anymore"
so... I'll wait around 3 moths...

****just confirmed that'll be a Deluxe Edition... so it seems to be a 2-Disc set... I hope so... anyway, I don't care... a 1-disc release will be fine... at least Cinderella will arrive on Disney DVD!!!

Could you possibly translate that article for us :)

I think this is the best confirmation we will recieve until Disney themselves annouce "Cinderella" as the march platinum.

Maybe not to soon...

Post by Ric-Mx »

Blockbuster Video Mexico has started taking orders for the Lion King (October 10th) and Finding Nemo release (November 7th).

However they haven't got any information about Cinderella...
The hotline for Walt Disney Company Mexico says there will be a Cinderella release October 10th, and that'll be a n Special Edition (they say no more)

I hope it's not just a mistake at WDC Mex....

However, they didn't even make an announcement for Sleeping Beauty, some spots appeared on TV some weeks after it was released.

But Blockbuster has always taken orders for platinum titles in advance, even some gifts... a plush for Snow White, a lunch box fot B&B.. now a cup for Lion King...
They even has promotional items for Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet...

Still... I wonder if Cinderella will still arrive this October on latinamerica... even whitout any promotional strategy... I hope WDC Mexico thinks the title will sell a lot anyway (as Sleeping Beauty did)...

By the way, the R4 Sleeping Beauty may go out off print this fall... (rumor)

Maybe the R1 will go OOP January 31th 2004... right???

According to the article on DVD File, I just posted on the main site, there will NOT be a Platinum Edition released next March. Two-a-year will begin in 2005.

So even if Mexico gets Cinderella, it doesn't look like the U.S. will.

Man, I was really looking forward to Cinderella. Oh well, at least we still have the hope for Alice in Wonderland SE, and the other two, right?

I'll go buy Treasure Planet and feel better about the whole situation. :)

How quaint-Disney changes their plans yet AGAIN. Why am I not surprised? And just HOW does Disney intend to release the rest of their platinums in 2 years?! :?

I'm starting to wonder if they will even continue the Platinum line - it seems that Sleeping Beauty and now Aladdin will not be Platinum, just "Special".

Oh, that reminds me, any of you that are outside the US, have you gotten the Platinum films under the Platinum title or under a "Special Edition" title?

Platinum is only used in America. All other countries get Special Editions or Collectors' Editions (or such like).

The Platinum name originated as a sister branding to Disney's Gold Collection (Platinum being the only metal more precious than Gold). Since no other countries got Gold Colletion discs, there was no need for using the Platinum branding.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Ric-MX, this may seem like a stupid question, but are you sure the Cinderella release was the animated movie?

It wasn't something silly like the TV movie staring Brandy Disney made a few years back or something?

This makes me MORE certain that it is very likely that the Platinum line here in the US will fade away... Just like Vault Disney did, and then ALL Disney DVDs will just be Special Editions. :D
