I think "Special Edition" refers to the SE of the movie with the "Human Again" sequence added to it, while the "Collector's Edition" refers to the DVD itself.
Yes, the R1 is both a Special Edition and a Platinum Edition. Even more confusing because the "Average Joe" on the street doesn't know what a Platinum Edition is.

It's not like he'll think "Platinum Edition. Ah, that must mean it's one of Disney's 10 (now amended to 14) top selling movies on home video format given a top of the range DVD release" :)

At least our Collector's Edtitions are consistant. Not like all the confusion over Platinum, Collectors, Special and Masterpeice Editions in America! Let's face it, all the 2 disc sets are the same!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

SEs

Disney have done the same thing with 'Lion King'. It a PE and a SE.

My R1 collection of all 40 'first-issue' Disney Animated Classics DVDs therefore comprises:

3 Platinum Edition
8 Limited Issue
3 Anniversary Edition
14 Gold Collection
3 that just say Special Edition
and 9 that don't mention anything other that WD pictures presents

Of the four that haven't yet been released, 3 are presumably going to be Platinum, which just leaves 'Home On The Range' - another SE perhaps?
