Nice review, Loomis! DVD sounds like a mixed bag, but I doubt the film will get better treatment here when it's released supposedly early next year.

Very good review Loomis. It seems you found the video transfer to be less stelar than I did. No, I didn't think it was great either, but I though they did a nice remastering job, specially considering the zero attention Disney gives this film.

I don't want to be the annoying picky guy, but I would just like to make a correction here.

An excerpt from Loomis review:
Many of Disney’s films are actually animated in 1.66:1 using the CAPS program introduced in 1986 (as it is a compromise between 1.33 and 1.85), so it is safe to assume that this is the correct aspect ratio.
Actually, the CAPS program was introduced in 1990, with "The Rescuers Down Under" (but there was a test scene done for "The Little Mermaid" a year before). In 1986, we indeed saw the first Disney movie with CGI elements, and that was "The Great Mouse Detective", but that wasn't produced in the CAPS system yet. As you can see in the making of featurette on the DVD, it seems that the CGI animation was printed on the animation drawings and then inked/xeroxed on the cels before being shot under a camera, like any regular animated movie at the time.
As I'm sure you must know, CAPS composes the movie all inside the computer. All the drawings and backgrounds are scanned, and then scene is composed and colored.

So, "DuckTales" was produced using the old method, cels and animation camera involved. By the way, Television Animation took a little longer to start using the CAPS system. A few years later, actually.

Oh, thanks Joe!

I felt sure that was wrong when I was writing it (can't remember what my source was).

Part of the reason I posted here was for feedback like that, so thanks again.

Will make the proper amendments. I will probably already have angry emails :)

We value your feedback. Please hold the line and the next available operator will be with you.

No, but I do work in local government sometimes, so the mentality must rub off :)

I also studied law, so I can be a wanker generally at times. :P

DuckTales UK

Post by disneyunlimited »

Well, as mentioned Ducktales has also appeared on DVD across Europe. You have to search to find it, though, even online as some shops call it 'Duck Tales' so searching for 'Ducktales' it doesn't show up.

A search for 'treasure of the lost lamp' won't do you any good either as both sendit.com and loaded247.co.uk are listing it as Duck Tales - Tail Of The Lost Lamp and <a href="http://www.dvdsource.co.uk/products/130 ... ]dvdsource[/b]</a> are calling it simply Ducktales - The Lost Lamp !!! Where are they getting their information from?

A couple of sites that have listed it correctly are disney.co.uk (although I'm suprised they've bothered to list it at all!) and good ol' reliable play.com

The Australian site I use dvdorchard.com are still taking <a href="http://www.dvdorchard.com.au/product.as ... -orders</a> on it!? Perhaps they should send one of their staff down to Target to buy some copies!!
