When I found out she was in the film, my first reaction was "Yuck!" While I'm not a Raven fan...haven't liked her even in her Cosby days, but I think it's rather rash to say that she's to blame for its failure, especially since I see the word "if", so I'm guessing this is a conclusion Luke came to based on your dislike for the wanna-be actress? He is entitled to his opinion though, and I respect it. I'm not in the least bit looking forward to Raven being in the movie as I know there have been films with really bad sidekicks which do put a damper on otherwise good films, but I'm going to see The Princess Diaries 2 when I have a chance, regardless of the reviews others are giving because I liked the trailers (at least, the parts w/o Raven), and hopefully I'll think it better than the verdicts that have come in.If it really is bad, all the blame, of course, lies with Raven being in the movie.

I never listen to reviews from others, ESPECIALLY critics. People who get paid to view movies, they seem to have a holy-er-than-thou attitude towards certain films, especially the teen oriented type. Ebert and his little sidekick didn't like Walking Tall, but thought it was good...I really don't think it's fair to judge a film based on reviews since everyone is different.

Yeah, I wouldn't be seeing this on the big screen if I didn't have a free ticket for it. I'll go at some point.
While I haven't yet seen her in this particular movie, I will say that overall I like Raven! So there you have it.

Well I went and saw this movie last night with my Fiance and we both really enjoyed the film. I thought it was a good family flick was definatley predictable but I enjoyed it. It was worht the $14 we paid for the two of us to see it together. I did not get the free movie ticket because I did not feel like taking the double dip for the special edition of the original. But both films are great. If you liked the original then you will enjoy this one. If you did not like the original then you probably won't like this one.
As for Raven she really does not have much screen time in the film, I was hoping she would be in it more because I enjoy her Television show.

GEEEEZ!! Do the reviews REALLY matter?! Gawd, just GO see it and if you like it, that's all that counts!
I mean really, reviews are just random ppl who DIDN'T like it. Who knows, I might like it, one of you might like it. Reviews are just ppl telling you NOT to see it. Well, boo on them. They're EVIL plans don't work on ME. I'm seeing it, and by george, it'll be great. And if it ain't, you all can throw tatoes at me........TOMatoes, actually. Patatoes hurt and if you hit my head, you'll probably kill the last brain cell I have..........-.-

Actually, this movie is pretty good. I saw it today and it was a lot of fun. I agree with Papa Bear in that if you liked the first one you will probably like this one. It was a really enjoyable, solid film. What are these critics expecting, Gone With the Wind?
Princess Diaries 2 really is a feel good film and has some good laughs. Those kinds of films never get good reviews, especially recent Garry Marshall films for some reason. It's quite a beautiful looking film as well. Oh, and yes Raven has a VERY small part in it.
Go see it! You'll leave smiling.

Cinderella was good. Ella sucked. This looks good (despite Raven being in itbuffalobill wrote:Roger Ebert said the same thing he said about Cinderella Story "wait until August 24th & buy Ella Enchanted."

Ebert is a dumbass? Dont really think so. Always found his view of movies was far closer to mine than the bald guy.
I really like Ella. Cinderella looked insiped.
As for reviews, I trust them a lot more than I do a commercial. A site like Rotten Tomatoes is excellent because it gives you a good cross section of opinions. Relying on just one can be dangerous.

I think critics should be called cynics, because that's really what (for the most part) they are/have become.

Well, I just got back from seeing this, and I loved it. It's every bit as funny and charming as the first film. Anne Hathaway really makes the movie. I'd definitely recommend you go see this, even if you don't have the free ticket.
And as far as Raven goes, I did think she ruined Julie's singing moment, but oh well, not a huge deal.

Still doesn't make him any more qualified to judge a movie than you or I.buffalobill wrote:Ebert's a dumbass. Nuff said.Secret Disney Man wrote:

My opinion, and yes - yours too!, is just as valid on a movie as his. Quite often critics will all agree that something is the greatest movie since sliced bread, yet the majority of people couldn't stand it (whether that says more about critics or people I don't know).
In fact, I am a reviewer. I get sent DVDs from companies to review. Does that make my opinion on a movie more valid than someone who just likes movies? Of course not - in fact, mine is LESS valid because I am being FORCED to judge a movie.
The point is, the only opnions that matter should be those of the audience and fanbase, because that is who the studios are making movies for - the audience, as they pay the money (and because most high profile critics probably see the films for free).
Now, I never thought I'd be in a position where I'd be defending Princess Diaries (even though I have not seen it, it doesn't appeal to me), but shouldn't people just make their minds up themselves? If people always listened to critics and stayed away from films completely, they would quite often miss out on gems. Do you think Snow White would be such a success if people had just listened to the bad "Disney's Folly" hype, and thought "Bugger that, it'll be dumb..."?
Loomis Reviews 'Thoughts of Fans':
An interesting group of people. While I found their plot weak (often they would claim to be fans, yet the smallest amount of negative press and they would flock like sheep in the opposite direction), there was no denying their drive once they had made their minds up. 'Fans' has a great villain (themselves), although the scenario often gets sidelined by smaller issues (inserts; covers) rather than focusing on quality.
'Thoughts of Fans' suffers most in comparison to the companion piece, 'Thoughts of Critics', which 'Thoughts of Fans' pays far to much attention to, rather than focusing on its own plot. Perhaps the only suggestion I could make to 'Thoughts of Fans' would be to start making their own minds up, and stop paying attention to what other people have said.

Would that include the UD film/dvd critics?awallaceunc wrote:I think critics should be called cynics, because that's really what (for the most part) they are/have become.

I find some (including UD) to be far from cynical but trying to give an honest opinion to help a person try to decide how to spend their ever shrinking disposable income. I've found Ebert to be a very honest & quality reviewer. I don't agree with him 100% as I don't with any politician. They'd have to be clones of me. I do find that a good critic will steer me 75% of the time towards or away from a bad product. That's like saying the people who do testing at Consumer Reports are cynics because they tell you if a particular product is recommended or not worth a purchase. I appreciate information that helps ME make an informed decision.

Well as usal I think the critics just dont have a varied taste in movies. IO just cam home from seeing this movie. I thought it was great it had a very good story line to it with many laughs and warm moments. I totaly agree with those who said if you enjoyed the first movie you will defintley enjoy the 2nd one.So if you have nothing to do this weekend or have a few extra bucks GO CHECK IT OUT!
But you know this is just me.

I much prefer the ones who will critique them to the "critics" that are paid by the companies to say good things about really bad movies.awallaceunc wrote:No, it includes professional critics who publicly 'critique' films for a living.buffalobill wrote:Would that include the UD film/dvd critics?

Now regfarding Raven I admitt I was wrong she didnt totlay ruin the movie she was only in it for a few parts and it wasnt enough to totaly ruin it. I am thinking I am going to go and see the movie again sometime soon I am totlay hooked.
I went to see Princess Diaries 2 today and I really liked it! I knew I would, since it only got 1.5 stars. (I mentioned earlier that I usually like movies that get 1 or 2 stars) There were parts that were just too funny! The maids were hilarious
Overall, I would have to say that I enjoyed it just as much, if not more than the original movie. I wasn't expecting much, since it is a sequel and usually aren't as good as the original, but this one totally is!
Raven was annoying, but luckily, she had only bit parts. The movie could have done without her at all, in my opinion.
I'm thinking I need to see this movie again in theatres!

I adored this movie! I loved it just as much as the original. I saw it the first day at 12:45.....in fact I almost didn't get to see it due to the theatre having technical problems.......but my almost 5 year old niece wants to see this movie and I plan to take her to it either on her birthday or sometime before that or after that. She loves the original movie, too.
