Julie Andrews' films don't deserve having terrible artwork:

Watched the movie last night on the big screen. There are little moments I noticed for the first time even though I’ve watched this film a thousand times! Can’t wait to see it again before it leaves theaters. Who knows when it might be rereleased again.

I saw TSOM yesterday afternoon and tonight. Fabulous as always but to be honest the 4k print (if indeed that’s what our theater showed) didn’t look any different to me than the version we saw in theaters for previous anniversary showings. That aspect of the presentation would have to be rated as disappointing. The soundtrack also didn’t impress me as being much improved. Maybe it’ll look and sound better on disc. Our theaters (Regal) are pretty old which may have affected our experience.
But we still had a fantastic time.

I understand The Sound of Music will air again on TCM on October 1 at 8 pm (commercial free as always) to commemorate Dame Julie Andrews’ 90th Birthday!

I ordered both this and Superman on 4K from Amazon and neither title is in stock to ship. WTH??? On release day???

So, I went to Walmart after class today to try and buy them in store, and they weren’t on the shelves even though the app said they were in stock. I tried to ask an employee, but they were actively avoiding eye contact.

Amazon better get their asses in gear, I don’t think they shipped any copies of TSOM or Superman today.

I know I sound like the grumpiest old man in the world rn lol. I feel everybody’s trying to suffocate physical media, though…

UPDATE: A day or two after being disappointed by Amazon and my brick and mortar Walmart, I checked Walmart’s website and saw they had both the movies I wanted (The Sound of Music and Superman) in stock on 4K for same day delivery. So I cancelled my Amazon orders and got them through Walmart.com instead.

I watched the 4K of The Sound of Music on Friday. It’s a splendid restoration, some scenes feel like they were filmed yesterday. Any scene where they are outdoors just shines. Also, with everything going on at home and abroad in our own time, The Sound of Music is really the perfect film to lift your spirits and give you hope. I’ve never cried watching it before, and I teared up several times on this rewatch. I mean, the unbridled joy? The promise of hope against insurmountable forces? How uniquely special to have a film which is so uncynical. It’s an absolute masterpiece.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm still waiting for Amazon to ship my order. Unfortunately I don't have any other alternative.

The Sound of Music related news

Kym Karath, who played the youngest Von Trapp, Gretl, alleges she was raped by a Hollywood producer at 15

Apparently, she shared this story on Twitter back in 2017, but I think I missed it. What a horrible thing to have happened.

Oh my goodness!! That's horrible. I believe her. I had no idea this happened.

In other news, I watched the film last Sunday in 70mm. It was GLORIOUS and truly the best way to watch this film!!
