Well it seems we have another one of these threads! It's cool, cause the list is always changing, and it will be fun to try and come up with a list for this moment...

1. Aladdin
2. Sleeping Beauty
3. The Little Mermaid
4. Brother Bear
5. Tarzan
6. The Hunch back of Notre Dame
7. The Lion King
8. Beauty and the Beast
9. Cinderella
10. Lady and the Tramp

Wow, that was a bit difficult once I got to number 6, I just had to go by how good the movie was, and repeat viewability. :)

The results were then featured in our Animated Classics countdown:

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/countdown/
Ever think of having another contest and posting the results of that contest, and an average of the 1st and 2nd contest. I can't help but think that the results of the first contest were skewed by recently released Disney DVD's and movies going OOP. For example, does the fact that Sleeping Beauty rank 5th have more to do to the fact that the special collector's edition was released than to the quality of the movie? Is it really better than Snow White and Cinderella? Was Lilo and Stitch so special to get 15th, beating out both Dumbo and Bambi? Is Bambi really 17th place material? Another thing is that maybe we should put some kind of handicap on Little Mermaid, Beauty and Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King considering the vast majority of us grew up on these cartoons and hence are severely biased.
I think that another contest is a great idea, and I'm glad to see that Luke is considering it for the end of the year. The truth is that, any one person's list can change from time to time, because we are constantly being influenced, by movies we've recentlty seen, or maybe different outlooks we may currently have, that differ from ones we had previously, but just to comment on a few of the comments that were made above...

-Sleeping Beauty was a great film, Walt's most ambitious and most beautiful peice of art, and I for one would say, that "YES" Sleeping Beauty is better than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Cinderella, well I would have to say that it is a close call between Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, if aanyone wishes to debate, perhaps they can start another thread, because I'm moving on...

-Lilo and Stitch was a very cute movie, and I do not think, that being newer, helped it get a higher ranking than Bambi or Dumbo, in fact I think being so much newer hurt it, as many people seem to have an aversion to the newer animated classics.

-Bambi, may very well be a classic/disney gem, but the movie as a whole, can be pretty boring. The true measure of a masterpiece/classic is that it remains entertaining through out the ages, Bambi will certainly be appreciated by many, for many generations to come, but it is just not a movie that captures today's audiences as much as say, The Lion King.

I won't really touch on the fab four comment as it seems many other people have already debated it... :P

If that's the case (which it seems to have been), then the reason we liked them is because we grew up on them, and that's entirely legitimate. There will always be re-releases and changing minds, as well as new movies. I don't see any way of getting around that.

Well, I wasn't so much against bias and opinions... it is just that most people visiting this forum are from the early 90's era. We are too young to be impressioned by older Disney classics and too old to be impressioned by the newer ones It would be great to get votes from people in their 30's to 90's and between the 5 and 15. However the vast majority of people here are between 15 to 25. It is very hard to call it a fari competition.
I am a teen, I just turned 18, but for the whole past year I was 17, and I saw many disney movies this past year. And I have to say that I don't really agree with the above statement, atleast it does not apply to me.

Some of my favorites are from the recent years: Lilo and Stitch(though I'm starting to get a little sick of it), Treasure Planet, and Brother Bear. Others are ones I grew up with from the 50's that I've continued to appreciate from my childhood to my adolescence: Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Lady and the Tramp, and Sleeping Beauty.

I agree with Slash in that there is that "first kiss" quality to the very first films we saw as a child... but I saw almost all of the films within the first years of my childhood, so I kind of grew up with all of them. Also, I think we can (at least partially) look beyond our attachment to a film and judge it objectively, if we apply a little effort.

Okay, I should stop bumping threads, but it's really fun, especially pointless trivia like this! As of now, this is my list...

1. The Little Mermaid
The mermaid may be little, but the songs, the magic and heart are big.

2. Alice in Wonderland

Sentimental value and rewatchability make it my number 2. Very underrated, too.

3. Pinocchio
Although out of Walt's films Alice in Wonderland is my favourite to watch, Pinocchio is essentially the zenith of Walt Disney's career.

4. Beauty and the Beast
Pure magic...that's all I have to say.

5. Aladdin
Gotta love this film!

6. Peter Pan
Yet another great Disney movie.

7. The Lion King
Powerful, moving and moral, The Lion King can make you feel the love tonight. Sorry, that doesn't make sense.

8. Mulan
An oriental masterpiece and may have saved my love for Disney...

9. Lady and the Tramp
I'm no dog lover, but I love this movie.

10. Fantasia
More a piece of art than a normal movie, yet still cool.

And here's my 11-20 for all you people-

11. Cinderella
12. Dumbo
13. Robin Hood
14. The Sword in the Stone
15. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
16. Sleeping Beauty
17. Bambi
18. The Rescuers Down Under
19. Lilo and Stitch
20. Pocahontas

I thought about all of the disney movies from the 30s - present and although I love most of the more recent ones, I came up with these. I tried to judge by their art, music and story.

Mine are:
Beauty and the Beast
Tarzan
Pinocchio
The Little Mermaid
Mulan
Pocahontas
Sleeping Beauty
Lady and the Tramp
Aladdin
The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Honorable mention to
The Lion King Although I like this movie, it just isn't one of my all time favorites.

1. Pocahontas - I just love this... my very favorite one. The story flowed differently from Disney's other stories and while not quite as serious as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I liked it much, much better. I suppose it was the two central characters themselves.

2. The Lion King - Poweful opening scene, fun songs, and scenes that just tugged at my heart.

3. Aladdin - Fantastic characters, good songs, and Carpet. ^-^

4. Beauty and the Beast - Just the way the two fall in love. <3 None of this -at-first-sight business.

5. The Little Mermaid - I don't have a reason for liking everything. XD This one is great in my books but I don't have a particular reason for loving it.

6. Cinderella - I remember my mom and I used to watch tihs on VHS over and over and over again. Such fond memories.

7. Mulan - This one was really emotional for me... I remember crying in theatres when the father was about to go off to war. ~.~

8. The Emperor's New Groove - Tons of fun... and the humor was different (and at places more clever) from Disney's standard fare. Very refreshing.

9. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - This is the classic that started it all! Just about everyone loves this one. d:

10. Hercules - Like The Emperor's New Goorve, this was just fun and funny.

This isn't in any particular order, btb, aside from Pocahontas which takes first. ^-^
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

1. The Little Mermaid
Great songs, great story, timeless magic.

2. Aladdin
Good songs, hilarious characters, enchanting story.

3. Beauty and the Beast
Excellent songs, beautiful animation and a well-executed story.

4. Fantasia
A beautiful symphony of animation and classical music - the Mickey Mouse section is more than enough to qualify this as a classic.

5. Sleeping Beauty
Gorgeous animation, a beautiful score, and a well-paced storyline.

6. Mulan
A story of bravery, determination, and all-out feminism. Me likes. :D

7. Peter Pan
A joyous adaptation of the J.M. Barrie story, but is easily surpassed by the 2003 live-action film by Universal.

8. Bambi
Beautiful animation, nice score, and a timeless message.

9. Lilo & Stitch
Funny, touching, and downright cute.

10. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Excellent story, good songs, and a noble heart.

Sort of changed my list. Just saw Sleeping Beauty in its entirety for the first time about a month ago and fell in complete love. I'm not quite sure where to place it, but it would definitely be within my top 5 or 6 Disney animated features.
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.
