Yes, the soundtrack is easily available and well worth purchasing. I saw the show live in Boston, and it was amazing. It should have succeeded so much more than it did, and I wish more people got to see it. The musical arangements and the premise and staging was refreshing. Ashley Brown brought down the house with her rendition of Reflection from Mulan, and now she is starring on Broadway as Mary Poppins. I love having the memory of seeing her in On the Record. The other three main stars were perfect in their roles as well, and I wish this show would get more attention at regional theatres, but sadly I have not seen it produced since around me since the national tour passed through. I say get the cd and check it out.

The sample of 'Wanna Be Like You' on there makes me think that may well be the worst CD ever made.

Really? Worse that Richard Harris' classic album "A Tramp Shining"?
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"

Then you'd be missing out on a great cd. However, I wonder how this cd would come across to someone who didn't see the show...like just a collection of songs I guess. The show was wonderful because of its overall staging and interaction between the characters, and this is lost to a degree on the album.

The show is based around a lose idea of four people of varying ages and backgrounds meeting in a recording studio and sharing experiences and emotions while developing bonds. These concepts are expressed through the songs and the song groupings. It's a subtle concept but one that I found touching, especially when they part ways at the end presumably carrying with them their shared feelings and newfound friendships if only in memory. There are also four other accompanying singers, and the orchestra was part of the staging in a tower arrangement similar to the celebrities on the Hollywood Squares tv show. The staging involved oversized props from a recording studio such as microphone booms and such, and they were often used in unique and innovative ways. It wasn't an over-the-top mega-production, but rather it was classy, sweet, and incredibly entertaining in a feel-good way. The pictures in the cd booklet are fairly representative of the show.

I saw the show in Chicago and I loved it. I have the soundtrack and it is probably the most listened to Broadway soundtrack I own. My whole family listens to it. Last summer before a friend and I went to Disney World, I made her listen to it and she seemed to enjoy the soundtrack having not seen the show. It does play as merely a collection of songs without the character interaction, but it is a great collection. My favorite Disney song is "The Second Star to the Right" and the arrangement done for "On the Record" mixed with other songs from "Peter Pan" is my favorite version. The juxtaposition of classic and current Disney hits is very refreshing. I especially love the combat between the girl singing "Let's Get Together" and the guy singing "I Won't Say I'm In Love." It was really neat when staged, but I think it still comes across on the album that there is some form of romance between the two singers.
