You underestimate me.
Brad Bird is the only one of those three men I would have any interest in seeing the work of* and, if even Alan Menken isn't tempting enough, nothing would be.

Yes, I guess that's at least part of the reason. Also, the allegations weren't as serious as Weinstein's, Spacey's or some of the others and weren't taken to court, so I suppose that also benefits him. I still find it a bit surprising, though. I thought he would need to wait at least a few years for all of this to be forgotten before making a comeback.Disney's Divinity wrote:I think, especially in regards to the celebrities who aren't really in animation, it's because news in the animated field is sort of ignored by the general public because of the popular sentiment / condescension that animated films aren't "real" films, that they're lesser. I'd bet most people don't even know who John Lasseter is; you have to know something to boycott it.
Yeah, John Musker at least is also friends with Lasseter and one of the few who has shown some support for him after the scandal (by thanking him in his Annie speech), so it would've made sense for them to join his new studio. I thought they would maybe do it after they both left Disney. I'm also glad they're at Warner instead; I think they'll probably have more creative freedom there. I hope their project there is going well and doesn't get cancelled.Farerb wrote:I wonder why Musker and Clements didn't go to work there as well, like when they returned to Disney when he asked them to come back in 2006. I guess they really wanted to make that DC/Metal Men movie, which they couldn't have done at a different studio. But I prefer them at Warner, they could do well turning that studio into something great.
Yeah, at first I doubted Skydance could be much of a competition for Disney or Pixar, but now I'm not that sure. Although, judging by the images and details released so far, their first two films don't look as high quality as Disney's or Pixar's to me. But maybe it's the visual style, which looks quite inspired by Disney's, but more generic and blander. I think they should've tried to come up with something a bit more unique to have their own identity and differentiate themselves from other studios.Kyle wrote:It will be harder to ignore skydance since they now have brad bird, jon lasseter, and rich moore.
Personally, I understand why people boycott films and I respect it, but I've never done it myself, plus I'm curious to see how their first films are, so I'll definitely be watching them. I can't say I'm too excited for them, though, but of course I'm looking forward to hearing Alan Menken's songs for Spellbound. I would've preferred Disney had given him a new animated project, but since they keep denying him the opportunity to do so, I understand him accepting this job.

See, I didnt even know they had Menken until just now. Now I dont know why anyone would write them off at the moment. At least wait until a trailer eh?
