I received an email from BroadwayWorld that contained this info about the musical:
Broadway World wrote:Read all about it! The stage is being set at Milburn, New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse for the premiere of a brand new musical, NEWSIES, adapted for the stage from the popular Disney film. Based on the 1899 true story of a courageous group of scrappy newsboys who become unlikely heroes when they rally forces to fight an unscrupulous newspaper tycoon, NEWSIES features a book by Harvey Fierstein, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and music by legendary composer Alan Menken. With its rousing score, rollicking choreography, and defy-all-odds inspirational story, Disney’s NEWSIES will have you cheering - and Paper Mill Playhouse is the ONLY place you can see it! Four weeks only! Sept 15-Oct 16. Click here or call 973.376.4343 to get your tickets today!
And there's a link at the end to purchase the tickets.
Since I've never seen the movie, have little to no knowledge about it and I'm nowhere near New Jersey, I have to pass on this one. Though if it comes around to Cincy, I might go see it.
Disney's Divinity wrote:"Newsies" and Alan Menken are supposed to be on The View this Monday, if anybody's interested.
I was interested.
For those who didn't see it today it only lasted 5 or so minutes, but Menken basically mentioned how Newsies grew a fan base over time and then the kids preformed some of "Sieze the Day" and about 4 lines of "Santa Fe". It was nice, but I would have prefered more, and not waiting through 55 minutes of other material I didn't care about to get to it.
But I want to see it! Hopefully it will have a Boradway run and/or a national tour.

[quote]I felt the same way (though it didn't bother me as much because I usually watch anyway). I guess Alan Menken wasn't considered high-profile enough to get the usual amount of guest time. Darn you, Barbara Walters!
Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
A friend of mine had this on their Facebook profile, and I thought I should share it here. It shows of some of the amazing stage they've designed. I'm SOOOOO excited to see this!!!!!
...executives from Disney Theatrical Productions have been carefully assessing a New York run for “Newsies,” which received strong reviews this fall at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J. Even six weeks ago Broadway was not the destination for “Newsies” — it was adapted from the 1992 Disney film to license to regional theaters — but the audience and critical reaction led to a new strategy.
People familiar with Disney’s planning said that the company’s theatrical arm was considering a limited run on Broadway, perhaps from spring through Labor Day, which would require less money up front than a typical Disney rollout in New York. While the company’s “Lion King” is still one of Broadway’s biggest hits, executives there are also cautious in light of two recent disappointments, “The Little Mermaid” and “Tarzan.”
Thomas Schumacher, the president of Disney Theatrical, said he was exploring all options about mounting “Newsies” in New York. “It’s only natural that we want to try to bring this show to Broadway now, when its message is so timely,” Mr. Schumacher said of “Newsies,” which echoes the Occupy Wall Street movement in its portrayal of newsboys on strike against a newspaper magnate, based on events in 1899.
It better not be a limited run. It's going to be a Tony Winning Musical and it'll be a long running show. If it's a critical and a box office success, they'll keep it on Broadway for a long time. So Disney, screw the regional and MIT license, and take it to Broadway!

Well, they can't take any chances after Tarzan and The Little Mermaid flopped.

Yea, but it will be a hit and Disney will drop this stupid idea for making a limited run. You'll see!
