Apparently, the project is still in the works.
Skyler Shuler: Disney is already doing Sword in the Stone and Black Cauldron.

Q: In the OP's defense Disney hasn't publicized that one much yet so most people likely don't know it's happening.

Skyler Shuler: Stand by.

Q: Give us Black Cauldron cowards!

Skyler Shuler: Don't worry, it's in development.

Q: Will it be tamed down though?

Skyler Shuler: Shouldn’t be any lighter than the animated film.

Q: After Mulan, what live-action adaptations should we expect moving forward the quickest?

The DisInsider: Black Cauldron and Hercules.

I don't know if i believe this. I think it's likeler that tThe Little Mermaid is the next remake after Mulan since it's starting voice recording and filming next year. Then i think Snow White is the next since it's getting a driector

Also they said they are fast tracking The Hunchback of Notre Dame so i think that one will come out sooner rather than later...

Also maybe The Chronicles of Prydain is going to Disney Plus.

I can't remember if Mulan was supposed to be before or after TLM? I'm guessing before considering it has a cast already.

I hope Prydain doesn't end up on DisneyPlus. I'd like at least the first film to get a fair shake theatrically. :(

If I remember correctly Mulan is supposed to be released in spring 2020. Next remake afterwards is Cruella. I think The Little Mermaid is in 2021 or 2022.

I just checked and Mulan will be released in March 2020, which is weird since it's in the same month as Onwards.

Yeah, I know the veracity of this source has been confirmed before, but this seems more like wishful thinking than anything else. Is it not possible that the plans for the Hercules musical have been mixed up with the idea that a live-action Hercules is going to transpire soon?

I'm very hyped for a Prydain film. It's about time Disney remake this series and I really hope they've learned their lesson from The Black Cauldron and are faithful to the original books. I'm very interested in who will be cast as Taran, Eilonwy, Fflewddur, Gwydion, Achren, etc. I wouldn't mind a release on Disney Plus if that's the only way for these films to be created, but I'd love a theatrical release. I think there is still a market for films in the vein of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.

I wonder which film they're more worried about: Mulan or Onwards.

If I had to guess I'd say Onward. There's a reason why it is released in March and another Pixar film is getting the usual Pixar time slot in June.

I didn't notice that before so you're definitely right. The last Pixar film with an atypical release date was The Good Dinosaur and we all saw what happened to that. Doesn't seem like they're all that confident with Onward then. March is usually designated for their live-action features but while BATB triumphed in that slot, Dumbo and A Wrinkle in Time both flopped. I could see Mulan going that route as well.

but, like, omg, u guys, it doesn't star a princess, therefore they shouldn't remake it, like with lilo and stitch. like Disney movies without like princesses can't be like good and omg have remakes that like enhance upon the strong points of the original, omg.

But it does have a princess...
In addition, non princess films are being remade: Alice, Dumbo, The Lion King, etc...
Seriously it's not about the princesses, it's about the popularity of the original.

That's a good point.

To be honest, I'm immediately suspicious of this Skyler Shuler person. Who are these loose-lipped Disney employees talking to him? Or does he just sneak onto the lot and overhear conversations? Everything about the way he delivers information feels very sketchy to me. I'm surprised Disney hasn't done a cease-and-desist on this guy, since they're a studio known for being very guarded about their projects and what's revealed to the public and when.

Being a movie scooper just sounds like the saddest job to me. What's the fun of sneaking onto movie lots, eaves dropping on conversations, leaking out private information? And a lot of that information has a high chance of being false or a case of broken telephone, anyway. I guess I'm weird and prefer to wait until the official studio press release or when the studios decide to reveal information to the industry trades. I believe we should find out about what movies and casting and director decisions are being made, when we're good and ready.

Sorry for the rant.

I’m really surprised that Disney still actively works on this one, especially knowing how the original classic is mistreated..

If only it could take the same steps as the ‘Jungle Book’ remake or the ‘Mulan’ remake..

Same. I'm in shock that this film is still in production especially after the mishaps of Christopher Robin, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Mary Poppins Returns, and Dumbo. I'm glad Disney hasn't given up on this though especially after they dropped Narnia. This is the only remake (besides maybe Hunchback) that I'm actively interested in now.

This is also one of the very few I'm interested in. I'm excited for it mainly for two reasons; the animated film is not that well-known, so it's very likely this new version will be quite different from it, and the original could benefit from the extra attention more than other Disney classics.

Also, from what I've heard, The Black Cauldron is not very faithful to the original source material, so this remake could improve in that area. I've never read the books, but I'd like to. I tried to find them in Spanish once, but they weren't available anywhere. That was in the 2000's. I had read the Narnia series and I was looking for other similar titles. I think they're still not easy to find here in Spain, but now that I know more English, maybe I could read them in the original version.

I definitely hope this adaptation draws more from the original books and if so, the first one shouldn't even be titled The Black Cauldron.

I hope you can find them in Spanish now because they are award-winning books and considered some of the best in children's fantasy. However, the English itself was fairly simple from what I remember because they were meant for children. Most of the complicated words are Welsh names which most American readers would struggle with anyway. I really enjoyed the books and the characters have a lot of depth to them. If you like Narnia, you'll certainly enjoy these.

Same. I really hope nothing wrong happens to this project and that it does well-enough for the majority of the series to get made. *pleasepleaseplease*

If the remake gets finally made, the books will probably be reissued here in Spain like it happened with the Narnia books when the first film was about to be released. Right now, I've only found some old editions online that are extremely expensive. But yes, I can always read them in English too. I've read some books in English, but sometimes there are many words I don't know and I get tired of having to check the dictionary so frequently while I read. I know it's advised not to look up every word in the dictionary, but I can't help doing it as I can't continue reading without knowing their meaning. Though, if as you say, the English is simple in this case; maybe I won't have that problem. And, in any case, it'll help to improve my English, which is something I want. I'll see, but after your recommendation, I really want to read them now.

By the way, do we know for sure there'll be more than one film?

I can understand wanting to look up every word you don't know while reading so you know what you're actually reading lol. It sounds like you only read Narnia in Spanish otherwise I would have said that Prydain is basically the same reading level as Narnia so if you had no issue with Narnia in English, Prydain won't be a problem either. I don't think it should be difficult for you because they are children's books but I also have to keep in mind that I am a native English speaker so I might be taking the reading level for granted. I hope you do check out the books one day though because they really are superior to the film and this is coming from someone who always liked the film and never understood the hate for it.

I really hope they adapt all the books and don't just adapt The Black Cauldron (which is the second book in the series in the first place). Right now there's not much information so it sounds like they're just remaking that so I hope they clarify that in the future. They'll probably want to make all of them since Disney+ could use an exclusive franchise TV/movie series.
