I've lost whatever little interest I had then.

I'm not surprised. It is a Christmas special. Olaf is a snow man. So, again, not surprised, and naturally I'll still be watching.

I hadn’t thought of that! It makes a lot of sense. Who better than him to star in a Christmas special?Disney's Divinity wrote:I'm not surprised. It is a Christmas special. Olaf is a snow man.
Olaf is one of my favourite sidekicks from the last Disney animated films, so I, for one, I’m glad he’ll be the protagonist of this TV special. And it seems Disney knows the music is one of the reasons behind Frozen's success. Everything they do about Frozen has songs, even the short had a song.
Re: Frozen Animated TV Special (2017)
Do people even like Olaf that much? It's always felt that Disney has pushed him more than anything, and that the reason people gravitated towards the movie was for Anna and Elsa.

I'm cool with it. Honestly, when he has his own project (Sofia the First), he is very enjoyable and endearing. Not saying he isn't in Frozen, but Olaf is much more written on his own than being a side character in Frozen where he isn't developed and only spews catchphrases. Plus, Josh Gad is so wonderful as Olaf. I wish this was a Anna and Elsa's first Christmas together special, but I can't wait to see what Josh and Olaf do here.
Re: Frozen Animated TV Special (2017)
I agree, a big part of the character's charm is because of Josh Gad's voice. I also love Olaf's innocent and naive personality.disneyprincess11 wrote:Plus, Josh Gad is so wonderful as Olaf.

Re: Frozen Animated TV Special (2017)
I was just watching The Angry Birds Movie and Josh Gad was definitely the best part of that (don't judge). He's just always typecast as "the annoying, geeky, weirdo guy with-no-boundaries who just so happens to be able to sing". Olaf is his one mainstream role that seems to go against that, aside from the singing. Although I like Anna and Elsa, I do honestly think that a half-hour comedy with Olaf at the forefront could work. Plus, that way they can save the best material for the sequel.

I hate Olaf’s design, but I’ve always liked the character and, yes, Josh Gad is fantastic. I really don’t think Disney would put much focus on him here (or in merchandise) if he wasn’t popular with somebody.

Re: Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017)
The TV special is going to be called "Olaf's Frozen Adventure". The story follows Olaf and Sven as they travel around Arendelle in search of Christmas traditions.
There will be 4 new songs but because the Lopezes are too busy with Gigantic, Frozen 2, and Frozen on Broadway (and who knows what else) they handpicked two other songwriters, Kate Anderson and Elyssa Samsel, to replace them for the holiday special. So, essentially none of the key creative talent from the movie are returning.

Well, if that's so, why not having other replacements? It would be tempting to wish for Alan Menken, though that's unfortunately too unrealistic to wish for.Sotiris wrote:There will be 4 new songs but because the Lopezes are too busy with Gigantic, Frozen 2, and Frozen on Broadway (and who knows what else) they handpicked two other songwriters, Kate Anderson and Elyssa Samsel, to replace them for the holiday special.

They are not aiming this at people who disliked the film--and they SHOULD not--since they would not be watching anyway, so, yes, they are a huge loss.

I usually prefer the original directors to do any follow-up to their films, but Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton are good directors too, and Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are probably too busy with Frozen 2 right now. Regarding the new songwriters, I don't know them, so I won't judge. But, aren't 4 songs too much for a half-hour TV special?Disney's Divinity wrote:They are not aiming this at people who disliked the film--and they SHOULD not--since they would not be watching anyway, so, yes, they are a huge loss.

Fine, we can agree to disagree then. I was never such a avid Frozen fan who regarded it as being the best thing that ever happened to the world since sliced breadDisney's Divinity wrote:They are not aiming this at people who disliked the film--and they SHOULD not--since they would not be watching anyway, so, yes, they are a huge loss.

Re: Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017)
What I'd really love to get out of this special is a few moments between Elsa and Olaf (i.e.: mother and son-esque moments; since Olaf is technically her son or something)
