It's too early to celebrate those. It's not their anniversary month yet. A Goofy Movie premiered in April, Pocahontas in June, and Toy Story in November.farerb wrote:Where are all the articles about Pocahontas and Toy Story?

Re: A Goofy Movie 20th anniversary
I've never liked the sequel, but I love this one. I'm sure Pocahontas will get love, too. I mean, that random Funko Pop that was just announced of Meeko & Flit is probably a sign they will do a few little somethings for it.

Listening to most often lately:

Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: A Goofy Movie 20th anniversary
I'am very fond of A Goofy Movie. There are issues (Goofy and Max not being more honest with eachother, Pete being a source of Parenting advice, the dancing corpse) but it's nonetheless filled with fun and touching moments.

Kevin Lima: That’s correct! He wanted Steve Martin to play goofy, using his normal voice - Bill Farmer had to record the entire movie, not doing the Goofy voice. I would have left the movie if we couldn’t talk JK off the ledge.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1249001424790249476Kevin Lima: There was very little merchandise made for the film’s release. Here’s some of it…
Q: There is also a one of a kind statue of Max Goof owned either by Kevin Lima or Jymn Magon. Can’t remember who though.
Kevin Lima: I own the one of a kind Max and Roxanne maquettes sculpted for the film by Kenny Thompkins. Unfortunately, they’re at my office while I’m sheltered in place at home.

Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1248785037622824960Q: Why does Goofy drive an AMC Pacer?
Kevin Lima: Because my elementary school was next door to an AMC dealership.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1248786306718552065Q: Are there any deleted scenes you wish could have made it in the final cut?
Kevin Lima: None that I wish were in the final cut of the film, but there were a couple of fun sidetracks that we had to cut when the story changed. Like Goofy's nightmare song, Born To Be Bad and a trip to Paco's Amusement ark.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1250836082951745536Kevin Lima: Long before Goofy was a child photographer, he worked in an office (I forget what he did for a living) and his boss, Don tormented him with a song "Born To Be Bad." It was nightmare inducing.
Q: Who did you had in mind for the voice?
Kevin Lima: We hadn't got that far with it. But I did imagine him with a weary, beaten up by corporate America type of drone.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1248791688497074176Q: Why did you choose to have Bigfoot listen to a song we’re familiar with as opposed to a Powerline song?
Kevin Lima: A new song would have crushed the joke. The reason you laugh is not because he's dancing, but because he's dancing to that song. Plus, Jeff Katzenberg loved that song.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1248803637968506880Kevin Lima: When we came up with the idea of Pauly Shore playing Bobby, the character sprang to life fully formed. Pauly would improvise through his voice sessions and much of it made its way into the film.
Q: Is there a reason his role was uncredited?
Kevin Lima: If I remember correctly, it was his ask.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1249456121149964288Kevin Lima: Here’s a drawing by Carole Holiday of Chad, Max and Roxanne. It gives you an idea of how that triangle played out.
Q: Chad was suppose to have a larger role?
Kevin Lima: Yep. In one of the early versions of the film, Chad (voiced by Joey Lawrence) asked Roxanne to the Powerline Party Stacey was throwing. It ultimately felt better to have the pressure Max takes on to be self motivated.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1249515314070441984Q: Were Pistol and Peg ever part of the movie - or would their disappearance have ever been addressed in some form?
Kevin Lima: They may have been in a first draft, but as we honed the film, Goofy and Max contrasted well with Pete and PJ and everyone else became a distraction.
Source: https://x.com/biryanifan/status/1248829867459780609Q: Was “The Goofiest Movie Ever” the working title?
Kevin Lima: Not that I remember. I recall long conversations about "A" verses "The."
David Gerstein: As far as I know—yes, it was!
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1248800404051124225Q: I love this movie. I also loved the sequel to it. My question is: What did you think of the sequel? Did you feel that it was as close to the way you led the movie to its finished product?
Kevin Lima: It's funny, I don't think about sequels when I'm making a film and very often don't pay much attention to them when they're released. I'm going to turn this on you... were you satisfied with the way the sequel continued the story?
Q: I was definitely satisfied. As I said, I loved the sequel. But not as much as A Goofy Movie. The one thing missing from it was Roxanne. I wanted to see the Max and Roxanne relationship continued in it.
Kevin Lima: I agree.
Source: https://x.com/GoofyMovieDir/status/1917344411169743105Q: Are there any model sheets of Chad and Lisa from A Goofy Movie? I thought their designs were really cool.
Kevin Lima: I have a couple of designs, but no official model sheets. Many of the secondary background characters were lifted straight from the storyboards.

Re: A Goofy Movie 20th anniversary
It's great that they're celebrating this movie so much. I'm very fond of it as well. It's very well done, especially for an animated film that's not part of the DAC line, and quite different from what had been done before with the classic Disney characters. I haven't watched the sequel in a long time, but I remember linking it too, though not near as much as the first. I wish Kevin Lima made more movies. This one, Enchanted and Tarzan (which he directed with Chris Buck) are all really good.Sotiris wrote:Disney is celebrating the 25th anniversary of "A Goofy Movie" with new tributes all week.

That's true. I think that's why the similarly-intended DuckTales the Movie pales in comparison and is pretty much forgotten outside the show. A Goofy Movie was conceptualized differently. It never felt like an extension of the TV show.D82 wrote:It's very well done, especially for an animated film that's not part of the DAC line, and quite different from what had been done before with the classic Disney characters.
I agree. They are great. Even 102 Dalmatians is decent (although my least favorite of the four). I wish he had directed more movies too. I don't see him going back to animation (unless he joins Netflix), but there are lot of opportunities in the live-action space nowadays. Having made so many popular movies for Disney, you'd think they would have given him another chance to direct by now. Especially with all the increased number projects they're developing because of Disney+.D82 wrote:I wish Kevin Lima made more movies. Sometimes the best Disney movies are those that are the most "unDisney."

If we're talking about the sequel, I'd be willing to agree a little more. I think he should have given Max more space than he did in college. But of course, everything worked out in the end.
Re: A Goofy Movie 20th anniversary
You're right. I didn't even remember it was based on the show when I wrote my comment. I've watched A Goofy Movie several times throughout the years, while I haven't seen the show since it first aired in my country. That's why I sometimes forget they're connected.Sotiris wrote:I think that's why the similarly-intended DuckTales the Movie pales in comparison and is pretty much forgotten outside the show. Yes, it's decent for a sequel and it has Glenn Close, who is always great. I remember Kevin Lima was announced as director of a new project some years ago, but I guess it never got made.Sotiris wrote:Even 102 Dalmatians is decent (although my least favorite of the four).

Re: A Goofy Movie 20th anniversary
Same! Enchanted and Tarzan are two of my favorite films and I really like 102 Dalmatians a lot as well. The first one is just a remake without much of the charm of the animated film so 102 really was allowed to go beyond the source material and create a fun new story. I don't get why it gets so much hate because I always liked it a lot.D82 wrote: I wish Kevin Lima made more movies. @blackcauldron85: You were right about that cover being very good. I actually don't even like DCappella and thought it was great. I'm not sure who else could cover that song and pull it off, really. Maybe Jason Derulo?
@Sotiris: I'm going through those tweets you posted now. I definitely prefer Roxanne's final design over what they started with. She looks a little too cutesy in that concept art. I like the way the film Roxanne is somewhere in the zone between a prep and a nerd; she's never as stuck-up as a stock prep type (like the character they made for Chad after they decided he wouldn't be pursuing Roxanne), and intelligent without being too absurd or bookish (or unattractive) like a nerd type.
The Prince connection especially makes sense of why the soundtrack was so good. "After Today" and "On the Road" were my favorite songs, but "I2I" is great, too. As far as the Bobby Brown tweet, I always thought MJ and Prince, ofc. Those were obvious. I don't know much about BB other than he was Whitney's husband and he's the original of Britney's cover of "My Prerogative."
He'd fit right in.
The Born to Be Bad song for a Goofy nightmare would've been cute; kind of the reverse of Max's dream at the beginning. I wonder if the song's title was really called "Bad Bad Boy" like the tape said? That title sounds even funnier.
I always thought the character at the end sounded very familiar, but never would've even guessed about the former. I'll be watching this again tonight then for sure now.
Anyway, I actually really like the DuckTales movie. Not as much as AGM or even the DuckTales show, but I liked it a great deal when I was young. My favorite part was Ms. Beakley discovering the animals around the house.

The first reply to this tweet made me look closer and now I'm wondering, too, if Goofy's name is Goofy Goofey?Source: https://twitter.com/GoofyMovieDir/statu ... 7322586112Kevin Lima wrote:As you can see on this map, there are many generations of Goofs. I was wondering that when I read the first tweet about how the couple reappears because I had just realized how much the body type is similar to the woman who sings at the end. Wow, now I'll think of that every time I watch now, would've never known otherwise.Source: https://twitter.com/GoofyMovieDir/statu ... 0899762176Kevin Lima wrote:Yes, Powerline’s wailing back-up singer is none other than Treeny!
