Here are my own personal suggestions.

2001: Atlantis The Lost Empire (yes, I thought it was that good).
2002: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron or Treasure Planet.
2003: Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas or Finding Nemo.
2004: Shrek 2.
2005: Hoodwinked (yes, I thought it was cute and enjoyable).
2006: Cars or Ice Age 2.
2007: Simpson The Movie.
2008: Tinker Bell (though it's off topic, 2008 was a weak year for animation and "Tinker Bell" was the best film that year).
2009: Up, The Princess and the Frog or Ice Age.
2010: Megamind.
2011: Puss in Boots and Rio.
2012: Wreck-It-Ralph (Brave was a good movie despite it's flaws, so I thought it deserved the win, though Wreck-It-Ralph was more inventive and original)

A year that has WALL-E in it is NOT a weak year for animation.

Sorry, but I disagree. I thought "Wall-E" was generic and forgettable. Yes, bash me for it, but I've always thought that most Pixar's golden age films were overrated as hell and "Wall-E" was one of them.

I don't think Wall-E should havr won the 2008 Oscar, I think it SHOULD have gone to kung Fu Panda instead :(

But that's just my opinion

I agree, DisneyFan87, I prefer Kung Fu Panda to WALL E. Also, thank you for reviving this thread, I completely forgot about it.

I'll do the years where I left off:

2001: Monsters, Inc. (although I also liked Millennium Actress
2002: Spirited Away
2003: The Triplets of Belleville (Rough year…)
2004: The Incredibles
2005: Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
2006: Flushed Away
2007: Ratatouille
2008: Kung Fu Panda
2009: Coraline (although The Princess and the Frog was my personal favorite, Coraline definitely deserved this one)
2010: Toy Story 3 (I also liked Tales from Earthsea)
2011: Kung Fu Panda 2 (Adventures of Tintin would be my second choice)
2012: ParaNorman (The Pirates! Band of Misfits close behind)
2013: Frozen
2014: The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
2015: When Marnie Was there, but I was fine with the Inside Out win, too.
2016: Kubo and the Two Strings
2017: Eh... This one's a three-way tie for me, I don't feel particular about which of Coco, The Boss Baby, or Ferdinand should be the winner. I'm leaning towards TBB though. Mary and the Witch's Flower was more visually striking than those films, but overall about equal for me.
2018: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
2019: I haven't seen everything this year yet to say, but I'm leaning towards Klaus and Missing Link.

EDIT: I decided to include my list from the last page with the new additions. :)

The Red Turtle is a good choice for 2016, too, I had considered that as well. I hope I enjoy TS4. I did like 3 more than most of this forum, so hopefully I'll like 4 more than most comments I've seen about it here, too. I have a fondness for the franchise anyway.

I will say that while Incredibles 2 was my favourite of the nominees, I was ecstatic that Into the Spider-Verse won. 2018 had a really great selection of animated movies nominated and I would have been pleased with any of the nominees as the winner.

2019 similarly had a strong field of nominees. Toy Story 4 was my favourite, but Klaus or How to Train Your Dragon would also have been wonderful to see win the Oscar. Missing Link, too, if only because Laika deserves to win at least once. I feel bad they've yet to get my vote in any year, because I really do like their output (ParaNorman is my favourite of theirs).

I'm focusing on animated films released during these years in general, not just what was nominated.

2001: Monsters, Inc
2002: Spirited Away
2003: The Triples of Bellville
2004: The Incredibles
2005: Corpse Bride
2006: Cars (I guess- not a great year, although I still need to see A Scanner Darkly)
2007: Persepolis
2008: Wall-E
2009: Ed, Edd n' Eddy's Big Picture Show Coraline
2010: Summer Wars
2011: Kung-Fu Panda 2
2012: Toss between Wreck-It Ralph and ParaNorman
2013: Frozen (still need to see The Wind Rises)
2014: How to Train Your Dragon 2
2015: Boy and the World
2016: Tie between Zootopia and Kubo and the Two Strings (yes, ties at the Oscars happen, and I'm not backing down)
2017: Coco (still need to see Your Name)
2018: Mirai
2019: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

My choice for 2019 was either Klaus or Toy Story 4.

I still need to see ParaNorman. For some reason I've always associated that with Frankenweenie which didn't get the best reviews so I've stayed away from it for a while. Out of the Laika films I've seen, Coraline is my favorite because it feels the most like a fairy tale or old Walt Disney film.

You're not stupid, DisneyFan97. I mean, a lot of people dislike films that are too loud, so it's not weird to feel the reverse, and dislike when they're too quiet. I always think of bad indie films when movies are silent for almost the entire run time.

To be fair only the first half is mostly dialogue free. I'm actually one of those people who prefers the second half which is pretty rare.
