I'm looking to deviously acquire some form of HD version of the movie elsewhere on the internet, because I'm certainly not paying Disney for that shit.

Slapping a median filter on an upscale and calling it a day is an absolute embarrassment of the worst possible magnitude. The Rescuers remains their best mid-period release on Blu-ray simply by messing with the transfer the least.

Is there any chance that they will listen to complaints and reissue the disc once a fix has been corrected if they choose to even do that?

Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
Be that as it may, I am in the minority of people getting this. One good reason is because the only copy I have is a 20+ year old VHS of the movie and I never thought to upgrade between then and now. I didn't even get the 45th anniversary DVD because I knew it would eventually come to Blu-ray.
Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
I think the only way we can get Disney to redo this release is by not buying it... Then they'll realize they need to do another version to cash in...

Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
It is really sad that the film got such a lackluster presentation. Even if it's one of the films that the studio hardly cares about, it should still look better than the screen captures I've seen. I'll be passing on this release, though; not because I'm aggravated about the transfer (though it does make me slightly upset), but because I hardly watch my Gold Collection DVD of the film. I honestly don't remember the last time I watched it.

If you guys are dissatisfied with this current release, you should send a complaint to Disney. Be sure to write about how poorly the compression makes the film look and how weak the restoration is compared to previous ones.
From my personal experience, Disney's guest services have always had a good history with reading and replying to these messages, and with enough sent, they might feel the need to do something about this release.

Yeah, but did they fix the problems that people bitched about on the Cinderella Blu-ray?

True, but this release's sales might be affected because the people who would actually care about that stuff make up a larger percentage.DisneyJedi wrote:Yeah, but did they fix the problems that people bitched about on the Cinderella Blu-ray?

Also, this is much worse than Cinderella.
Unfortunately, most Blu-ray review sites are giving the transfer 4 and 4.5 on 5, and calling it detailed, colourful and with having a sense of depth. It's sickening.

Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
Ken Brown recently, upon second viewing of the transfer, dropped the ".5" off the video score of his review. Of course there's still debate with Blu-Ray.com's reviews and how in occasions poor Blu-Rays get decent reviews and fine transfers get terrible reviews (Shout Factory's Bruce Lee set as a recent example on there).
Still something has to be said when a newly "restored" Disney Blu-Ray release is that bad to which the reviewer questions the score he gives it.

Okay... This was literally my reaction to the screencaps on Blu-ray.com.
Before: "The transfer can't be that bad, right?
"
After: "Oh, my GOD! This transfer looks so damn blurry!
"
But.... I am going to have to get it anyway, because I never bothered getting any of the previous DVD releases or upgraded from my 20+ year old VHS.

Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
*Blu-ray.com review* 0_0 WHAT?! ... WTF, Disney Blu-ray team?! From No grain with detail (which is sometimes okay if it was restored straight from the raw animation) to grain with detail, and now, to no grain... and no detail. Oh yeah. Seems like Disney's no longer giving full shit on the quality anymore... despite the f*cking high price tag! Shame on you! ... but still, in all honestly, I never had a version outside of the VHS, so the new Blu-ray/DVD may be... the same?
This is DisneyFTW1, a former Youtube account that was terminated by Disney themselves. My current Youtube Account is FilmFTW2 (FilmFTW1 was terminated). Youtube sucks when it comes to film uploads, and it sucks even more when major corporations are following your channels. But what can I do?

Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
Why don't you just buy the 45th Anniversary DVD? They have New and Used ones for pretty cheap on amazon.com, and the picture quality is SO much better. There may be some dvd compression, but the picture is a hundred times sharper and more detailed than the blu-ray, that looks like someone went apeshit with the smudge tool in photoshop.DisneyJedi wrote:But.... Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
Ugh.
I really want to buy this, just because I'm collecting the Blu-Ray releases of DAC's, but part of me is just raging at how stupid Disney is being.
Apparently the Winnie the Pooh collection will be 1.66:1, argh! The movie is just a compilation of 3 shorts that were done in Academy!
But anyway, I guess I'll just consider myself lucky to have a 1080p Academy transfer of Sword In the Stone, before they replaced their masters with the cropped one
On that note, I'm gonna go check if it's still available. Those of you with an Xbox might want to look into it if it is - it's nice and high quality AND open matte! Hopefully they didn't go the iTunes route and replace their copy with a widescreen one.

That is probably one of the most idiotic things I have ever read. The cropping is literally just "dead centered" on the picture, anybody could have just taken the 4:3 transfer and chopped the top and bottom off until it hit 1.75:1 if they wanted to see how it looked in its original release. But not until this native 16:9 format do we get to see how Sword would have looked in its original release.

Re: The Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD
I just got mine. I do have a question. I went to the DigitalCopy site where the the little slip said to go and put in the code and I could see that it's compatible with Vudu and Amazon Instant Video. Does anyone know if it's possible to do it from iTunes in the Explore your options? If so how?
