I tend to agree with you. First, the movie takes place in ANCIENT Arabia...it was COMMON practice back then to do just that...cut off body parts for being offensive...cutting a hand for stealing for instance...which is still in the movies with Jasmine nearly having her hand chopped off...no one seems to have forced Disney to change that scene? The case is the same either its the ear or hand. It would be like Native Americans being offended for the Native Americans in Pocahontas wearing deerskin...yeah, most Native Americans wear Americanized modern clothing now. Back then they didn't. In most of Arabia they don't do the body parts being cut off now, but it did happen common place during the time Aladdin was set.Super Aurora wrote:I am not Arabic and I am sad that disney cut this awesome part!
So honestly I do not see the racism in it.

Okay...A I think he was half-joking and B they said "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" meaning your face isn't doing anything offensive, people just don't like it. That's beyond cruel. I don't agree with the people complaining or the cut though.Siren wrote:I tend to agree with you. I was half joking but yeah. The line isn't really big deal.
Also two misconceptions you made in you post. One, Aladdin wouldn't be ancient Arabia. Islam occurred after Christ, so at best it was some time after start of Islam to somewhere maybe about medieval age.
two, giving heavy fundamentalist and backward nature many of these Islamist behave in those areas, they're not too far off the mark from what's said in Aladdin.

Maybe the Mohammad part of it, but Islam dates back to the original testament of the bible.
Muslims are the descendants of the child produced from the "union" of Abraham (the first patriarch) and his maid Hagar, when he thought he couldnt have children with his wife. Jews are descendants of the child he DID have with his wife.
