When did this happen?!?

I'm definitely not complaining because I LOVE Treasure Planet, but where did anyone or anything say these were coming this July?
I should have posted this link with it.

BestBuy.com posted preorders for those films and 5 Touchstone films this morning.
Holy crap! THAT'S AWESOME!!!

We're also getting Newsies on Blu!

Thanks for the news!

Nice list! Besides the Lion King sequels, it looks like I'm lacking only Dinosaur and Chicken Little on blu. Though, I'd prefer a list of all Disney blu-ray releases, as I know I am lacking many others and that's what really makes it hard for me to keep track. Most PIXAR films I only have on DVD still, and I don't have much Disney live-action on blu yet either. Plus, stuff like The Wild, Mater's Cars Toons, etc...

I'm contemplating starting to buy Blu-ray. Finally. :p But I have some questions and concerns!

You know how "If I Never Knew You" isn't included in the movie of the upcoming Pocahontas Blu-ray? And how other previously-released bonus features are being left off of the Blu-ray releases? Is the picture alone really good enough and worth upgrading to Blu-ray? Do most of you still keep the DVD releases, too? Are the Blu-ray- exclusive bonus features really worth buying them?

Are some DACs worth having on Blu-ray versus others?

Do people bootleg Blu-rays? Since there are 4 in the Vault, is it reliable to buy them online, or is it like Blu-ray where chances are you'll get a bootleg?

So many questions, but I'm thinking that if there's a time to look into buying the Blu-rays, now would be it, since so many are being released this year. Not that I have money for them. :p Unless I sell my DVDs...?

For me, they are definitely worth the upgrade. Some Blu-ray's, like Sleeping Beauty, hold a very obvious upgrade. Many of them also have new restorations, that although you got them on the DVD releases, really shine on blu. Sound is also an upgrade if you have a good sound system. The downfall is that many bonus features have not been moved to these new releases. I do keep all of my DVD's, so that together they make a really awesome release. I like the blu-ray exclusive bonus features, but I've never been a huge bonus feature person other than making-of documentaries.
blackcauldron85 wrote:Are some DACs worth having on Blu-ray versus others?
Yes and no! They all look great on blu, but if your looking into more bonus features then some of them aren't worth it. The 2-movie sets of the Fantasias and Fox and the Hound have left much to be desired in bonus features.

People bootleg everything. I'd shop around until I found something I was sure was real before buying. Amazon can be a good bet.

The nice thing about some of these releases is that they aren't going to go rushing back into the vault. Aside from the Diamonds, I'd say most of them will be on shelves for years to come. Meet the Robinsons, Chicken Little, Bolt, and Dinosaur are a little bit hard to find (except for the 3D releases aside from Dinosaur), but I'm sure Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, and Atlantis will be on shelves for a while. You could probably space them out and buy them as you go. You should hold on to your DVD's though unless for sure you know the blu isn't a downgrade in bonus features.

Thanks for the quick response, singerguy!!!

I guess I just need to read this site's reviews, huh? I don't have a high-def TV and I definitely don't have a Blu-ray player yet, but with the combo packs, it makes it more worthwhile, I suppose. I would probably have to sell some DVDs in order to buy the Blu-rays. And I know that you'll never have all of the bonus material, since each release may have different bonus features.

Part of me thinks that maybe just keeping my DVDs makes sense, but like I said, with the combo packs, that's a good value (and when I have kids, they'll have the DVD copies so they don't scratch the Blu-ray, I guess). Life was so much easier before Blu-ray came along!

Is it hard for you all to justify to yourselves, "Hey, I already have bought this movie X number of times, but what's one more?"

I'm really strapped for cash, living on financial aid for school, but with only four in the Vault right now, I would buy B&tB and Bambi in the next week or so because they're heading in the Vault soon...? I don't know what to do. :p

*edit*

So, I'm reading the Blu-ray reviews here on UD (except for the few without a Blu review), and every release is going to leave off and add bonus features. For me, Blu-rays of newer films (Chicken Little onward), the Blu-ray bonus features are probably worthwhile. But, because of having to keep multiple releases of the same film, that just gets expensive. :p

*edit again*

And what about colors? I know that no matter what kind of release B&tB will get, people will complain, but apparently there are clouds missing in TLK? I mean, the Platinum Edition had the redrawn gators...

Things will always change in every Disney release. Maybe I should just hold onto my old DVDs and forget Blu-ray? But then I'm missing out for newer releases. Oh bother. :p

Edited to add:

The Great Mouse Detective, Sept. 18

Pre-order: http://www.walmart.com/ip/20926766

Frankly, I'm quite surprised to see this pop up. We still haven't seen preorders for any of the DACs mentioned in the ad booklet for "Lady and the Tramp" (except for "Cinderella"). However, the more the merrier.

In the Pocahontas thread, it's been confirmed that DMC will get it on July 3rd, and so, I'm thinking that a General release will happen around September a la The Fox and the Hound...

The list has been updated to add:

- Updated release dates for Pocahontas, The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under, and The Aristocats
- A * now symbolizes if a movie has been released (or is going to be released) in one or more other countries besides the US.
- Beauty and the Beast and Bambi are now listed as "currently in the vault".
