I am sure Escapay will have something to say about this. But the way they age the kids on the soap operas, name one, they all do it. On General Hostpital for instance just two years ago, Michael was about 12 when he was shot and they placed him in a hospital and lo and behold just a few months later he is revived from his coma and is now a young man (different actor) and I believe he was 20, but still Sonny Corinthos calls him son. That is just wrong. If fact all the kids on that show have grown up too quickly, except for Robin Scorpio, she grew with the show, which was amazing, because characters like Lulu and others were born and grew up over a couple of seasons.
If the Soaps could just portray real life a lot more "real" then maybe we all might have something constructive to talk about. I still insist, and I watched the show from the very beginning that "All My Children" star Susan Lucci, who has been with the show since the beginning has been through a lot, and I distinctly remember her tubal pregnancy that resulted in a hysterectomy, which would prevent her from having any other children. That along with the abortion story caused quite a stir, but ABC quickly got over it, and brought in some other characters.
Also I remember on General Hospital when Luke Spencer raped Laura and then they ended up getting married, which was the highest rated daytime wedding show on television.
But back to the shows being canceled for sure, "AMC", and "One Life To Live". They are two shows that I got hooked on in the hospital after I had a motorcycle accident. I managed to shake loose of General Hopital rather easily, but I hung on to OLTL and AMC for a long time, and just in recent years have finally given up on them both because of their unrealistic characters and situations and plot lines that must have been written by someone who didn't know what the heck was going on at any particular time.
I got sick of the multiple personalities shows and was relieved when Erika Slezak herself spoke out about that character and she has been free of that for several years. I understand that Nicky has come back again, and I am glad that I am not stuck on having to watch the show, because I would not be a happy camper. My wife watches them regularly and I get updates on an almost daily basis from her.

OLTL airs its final episode tomorrow. After months of hopes of an online reprieve, then the news of those talks falling through, OLTL will bid its final farewell tomorrow, and I'm not happy. I'm not a massive fan of the genre - I've only watched AMC and OLTL in large quantities, and I sort of stopped watching AMC years ago, although I did watch during the last few months. (Worst ending ever, by the way. That whole Prospect Park business screwed us out of a real ending.)
I miss AMC, but not as much as I thought I would. But I'm gutted about OLTL. I'm miffed that OLTL is canned while General Crapsicle gets to stay on. While the news that a handful of OLTL characters (So far, Blair, Todd, Starr, and McBain) have been announced to be moving to GH is nice, especially since I feel like their storyline will not be wrapped up by tomorrow, I'm still miffed. OLTL is possibly the most efficiently produced soap on TV - they're almost always ahead of schedule and under budget - you wouldn't know it, it actually looks like they spend just as much time and money to make it as they spent on AMC, which constantly went over budget and went behind schedule. Not to mention OLTL has been consistently, if not good, better than the rest of ABC's soaps.
I find it hard to believe that soaps don't make any money for ABC when one hour of soap contains 25 minutes of commercials.
ABC could have tried a myriad of things to keep from having to can their soaps. Changing them to 30-minutes, airing them once or twice a week instead of daily, etc. Faster-paced, cutting out some of the bloat such as characters and storylines nobody gives a hoot about, etc. Retooling the format so storylines are just slow enough to build interest and suspense but not drag on for a year or more. (I mean, why did it take almost literally the entire year for John to find out Liam was his son and Marty had fudged the DNA tests to say it was Brody?)
Meanwhile OLTL is going out with style. The whole Fraternity Row business has been classic, with the many references to OLTL's own history. The fantasy episode was camp, but respectful. And Monday's episode was nicely done - it was nice to see three beloved favorites return as angels. Killing Luna Moody, IMHO, is one of the worst mistakes OLTL ever made.
I will be tuning in tomorrow to see the show breathe its last, and I will be watching tomorrow's tribute on The View as well. Erika Slezak is co-hosting and several favorites will appear, including Judith Light, Kassie DePaiva, and Robin Strasser, who I'm sad was unable to show up for the final weeks despite delaying her back surgery to make such a thing possible.
RIP OLTL
