I just wish Burton would start doing his own material. I loved that Depp/Bonham-Carter/Burton thing for a while but it has to stop. I'm over it. Hot Topic posers ruined it for me and Alice in Wonderland didn't help. Can I rant a little? I hate when people refer to Burton as a genius. He has been making the same movie about the same weird character with the same freak side-kicks that seem to be filmed on the same set for the longest time. At this point I feel like he's making movies strictly to make Hot Topic merchandise to high school kids who recently discovered him and feel like he "gets them" because he's weird.

Burton is too toungue-in-cheek for Hunchback, his "darkness" is all on the exterior of his movies, but lack depth. Guillermo Del Toro FTW.

However, I hope this materializes and he proves me wrong. I wanna be wrong. This could be awesome.

Thank you!

Like I said before, the guy has good ideas, he just always seems to cheapen them with his "brand" of weirdness. I like Big Fish in particular because it shows that he knows how to make a good movie that doesn't feel like all his others. I also like Sweeney Todd which, granted, does sort of feel like his others but that's the way it was written so I give him a pass on that one.

I just see HoND becoming a dark and weird disaster. The original book incorporated a lot of realism -- along with the darkness and weirdness, something I don't see coming from Burton in this case.

Or Clopin. Or there might be a narrator.

As much as I love Helena Bonham Carter, PLEASE do not make her Esmeralda. I do think that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are great actors, but I have to agree with the majority that the trio is overrated. Tim Burton is good, but by no means is he my favourite. I enjoy some of his films, but like others have said, his darkness, and weirdness are too superficial, and with most of his work, it feels like it is being shoved in my face. I have no problem with films that have a weird tone to them. But films should be weird/strange because they work that way, or it is part of the plot. Not because that's what people expect you to make.

Even Tim Burton, I'm sure, is level-headed enough to know that she's too old for the part.

Burton always seems to get the coolest people, I wouldn't worry about that. Every sane actor would take that role, and I do trust him to get a perfect Esmeralda.

I mean we can complain, but Depp and Bonham-Carter are very good choices for their Burton roles.

One can only hope, but there are really no other female parts, so he wouldn't be able to include her elsewhere. :P

He'll find a way to include her if he wants to. Even if he's all like "Meh, I kinda want to" he'll do it.

Esmeralda/Quasimodo's mother, perhaps? (Depending upon how truthful he is to the book...)

Oh, completely forgot about her! I really must be tired. I actually wouldn't mind her playing that part- it could turn out really nicely.
