I'm not going to get into an argument with you about whether it's rude or not, I don't think I was being rude. I've been here a few days and frankly, I've had to put up with his trollish responses to several of my posts.

Hardly a warm welcome to a new member. I really don't understand the need to tear down in flames everything that other members like, but that's what seems to make him tick.

In all honesty, I pity people like that.

My little list:

0. The high quality of the animation, including how much the animators created. I was flipping through Pinocchio over the weekend and I think anyone watching the Honest John and Gideon scene has to let their jaw drop over how much background / landscape they animated. It just keeps going on and on.

0. The colors. I love colors.

0. The music. This applies as much if not more to the live-action films.

0. The atmosphere of the landscapes, heady quality to the animation itself, and slow-moving tone to most of the pre-80's films.

0. What Amy said - the belief that anything can happen. Especially in films like Mary Poppins and Bedknobs & Broomsticks.

0. The fantasy elements in many of the animated films' plots. Magic, spells, wands, swords, lazers, beams of light, witches, sorcerers, wizards.

0. Related to the above, leaving reality. They make nature seem supernatural. The scenes of spectacular things happening- objects coming to life and taking you into a musical montage. Blowing leaves / things blowing in the wind (Melody Time, Make Mine Music, Winnie the Pooh, Bambi), Mickey on top of the mountain, closeups of water with sparkling colors (The Three Caballeros), anything to do with winter (Melody Time, Winnie the Pooh, 101 Dalmatians, Bambi).

0. The darkness, scenes of evil. Some of it playfully so (Pink Elephants on Parade, The Skeleton Dance, Heffalumps & Woozles). Some of it not (Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty). Some of it somewhere in the middle (Poor Unfortunate Souls, any number of things from Alice in Wonderland).

0. They created so many different worlds and so thoroughly, it almost feels like you're really there. This relates to the very first one. I just remembered Mermaid Lagoon in Peter Pan, the flight montage in The Rescuers, endless examples in the package films.

0. The sense of chaotic humor in the Donald Duck and Goofy shorts. I can't tell you how hard I remember laughing as a kid at those. And thanks to YouTube, I was able to see "No Hunting," "Out of Scale," and "Trailer Horn" 'toons which are now some of my favorites.

Very strange.
That was rather rude.
Gee, yeah. I was recently told:

Of course, nothing will happen.

Thank you; your reply was right on the mark. :)

BellesPrince is just one of those people who thinks a 'true Disney fan' has to love *everything* about Disney. Well, very few people on this forum love classic Disney comics (let alone even knowing about them), but you don't see me going around 'accusing' people of being 'bad fans', now do you? I've seen the "why are you even here if you don't like (such-and-such)?" been used before toward other people and I always hated it. First, because it doesn't make sense. Second, because nobody is the judge who can or should be here (except the mods) and nobody should have to 'defend' their right to be here. (Oh, and is BellesPrince also Disney Duster?)

Goliath, just because I most definitely don't like you, right off the bat, don't try and analyse my character.

I think it best if we just keep out of each other's way and ignore each other from now on. I'm trying my best to stay civil towards you, but you make it very difficult for people to do that.

Speak for yourself and don't pretend you can speak for others. Every time somebody disagrees with you, you think that person is 'not civil'. Why not reply to the points Wonderlicious made? No, you'd rather just cast them aside and make it a personal matter.

Yet, you are belittling Goliath for his beliefs and what he likes, and even going to the point as saying "you don't like him" and you're going to ignore him from now on.. He didn't even "tear down in flames" anything. He merely stated his opinion. If you ACTUALLY liked it, then it wouldn't bother you that someone else doesn't feel the same way.

Even though you just met him and you're judging his character?

No, he's been confrontational from the beginning with me. I think in those circumstances you can quickly judge whether you want anything to do with somebody. I'm trying to take a step back here, and avoid conflict - I don't see why other people need to weigh in with their opinions, and get involved.

That's UD for you. We're not a discussion forum - we're a bloodsporting arena with no fences, so the audience can participate.

I'm beginning to think there's some truth in that.

Okay, I'm stepping in to do a bit of rare moderating. (After all, I'm cooped in with a broken foot -- what else am I going to do?)

This is a discussion forum. People are going to say things you don't agree with. I myself enjoy a debate and am known to be contrary from time to time concerning Disney stuff. After all, a true fan is able to recognize flaws while still remaining a fan. It's sort of like loving family and friends, even though you know everything about them, some of which might not be so great. Maybe I'm getting carried away in my analogy. I don't know.

Anyway I am finding situations on this board where people might need to stop being so sensitive regarding comments. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who need to show more sensitivity when making comments. Sarcasm is tough in an online community. I can't tell you how many times something I have said has been taken the wrong way just because whoever read my comments wasn't aware of the tone of voice I had meant to use. After all, that how I got the nickname Renata "Princess Hater" Joy!

So, yeah. Be nice to one another. At the same time, please don't feel that you aren't allowed to have an opinion. 'Cause that's just not fun!

That's how I've always felt.

Although, if the other person you're debating with tells you what you're saying makes them sad (obviously not anyone in this thread), I find myself not knowing what to do. How can someone prepare for that.

Well, I voted that I love everything equally, but I guess it's the animation most of all.
Being an illustrator, I appreciate the time, effort and craftmanship that goes into making these wonderful movies. The characters and music both come a close second.

It takes a lot for a viewer to be able to enjoy a character, whether you root for them, or love to hate their evil schemes. An animator's job is taking that character and making him/her believable in his/her actions.
But there's just something beautiful about animation. Something special about creating these characters and their situations; breathing life into them, and telling a story.

My love for art, animation and music first spawned when I first saw Pocahontas, and it's been strong ever since. Granted, I loved Disney movies even before Pocahontas, but that was the film that really drew me in to animation in general.
