Wave 4 Disney treasures?

Complete Pluto is perfect for a Treasures set - about the same number of shorts as The Complete Goofy.

I HIGHLY doubt it if one short, Pluto's Dream House, arrives unedited for the Treasures Wave 4. Having Pluto in blackface saying, "Mammy," is probably going to get chopped somehow. Having said this though, I'm pretty sure that I will plonk down my hard-earned cash for The Complete Pluto DVD set when it's released despite me having Pluto's Dream House unedited on LD (and naturally DVD-R ).

For those of you who think that the shorts from the Treasures DVD sets are all unedited, take at closer look at Clock Cleaners from Mickey Mouse in Living Color and Three Little Pigs from Silly Symphonies.

Still, "Clock Cleaners" is UNedited on the "Alice in Wonderland" Masterpiece DVD and the original version of "The Three Little Pigs" has been included in the international versions of the "Silly Symphonies" DVD.

In the original release, the film included a scene in which the Wolf disguises himself as a Jewish peddler. Later releases, from about the 1940s on, featured an alternate version of the scene in which the Wolf is not disguised.

As for the original version being available in the USA, I have no idea!

I believe a LD release in Japan had it unedited. If you're really hard up to see the scene, it's in Maltin's commentary as he intros Pigs in his section of the Silly Symphonies Treasure DVD.

The scene is available when Leonard Maltin is talking about it. However, Walt Disney himself removed the scene in subsequent releases of the short. You can see exactly how it worked when Maltin is explaining the controversy over the scene.

This is simply not true! The Clock Cleaners on the Alice Masterpiece DVD is the exact same clip from the exact same unrestored film elements included in the Alice Archive LD Box Set. Granted, the putative, "F*** you!" and "You Son of a B****!" ARE there, but the entire tangent of Mickey trying (in vain) to get the nesting stork out of the clock tower is MISSING from the Alice DVD/LD version of Clock Cleaners.

I don't see why this would be edited. Plute does the same thing in 1931's Mickey Steps Out on the Mickey Mouse in Black and White set. Hopefully, this doesn't get changed if it is in fact slated to be released.

I really hope it will make it into next years expected Treasure Tin of Mickey Mouse in B & W - it´s a funny cartoon and not so harmful as many people state. And if they let this go out of the vault - it could be a sign that Song of the South is on it´s way too.

I'm no so sure. Mainly becasue Disney are holding back on releasing Song of the South. I would be insane for Disney to hold back on the (almost*) harmless SotS while releasing Mickey's MellerDrammer (which from the single screenshot I have seen look like it has much more potential to offend than SotS).

I guess it could be released if the supplements went into more detail about it's historical and cultural significance. Somehow I think it will need more than a brief Maltin introduction...

Yeah, but then again, SotS is much more high-profile release than a single cartoon on the Mickey compilation. There is a great amount of EXTERNAL pressure exerted on Disney to not release SotS, whereas the holding back of Mickey's MellerDrammer seems to be an internal decision of Disney? Or was there some debate I'm not aware of?

At any rate, I agree that more than the "default" Maltin introduction is probably needed from the description I have read here. However, I am totally against the supression of any piece of animation, simply because of the current climate of Disney animation, the past is more important than ever!

Mickey's Mellerdrammer is not "that" offensive - it is Mickey and the gang doing a play based on the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin". It is one of my favorites of the black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons. There are numerous Mickey Mouse black and white cartoons that are much more offensive as far as black racial stereotypes - "Trader Mickey" is one of the most offensive.

Since there were 74 black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons (by my count) and there were only 32 of them on the Volume 1 set (again by my count - plus Minnie's Yoo Hoo), it would not surprise me if Volume 2 only had 30 or so cartoons, with the cartoons with the worst of the racial/ethnic stereotype scenes being left out for a "future" Volume 3...which would never be released.
