I'm on preorder for Beauty and the Beast at Toys R Us.

And I will most likely get Finding Nemo in the combo pack.

I have yet to decide my game plan for Toy Story 3. I may sell off the TS1&2 combo packs and work towards getting the Ultimate Toy Box. It would be a crazy and costly decision though.

Inferior? Inferior???

There will be a new making-of documentary, which replaces the old one but will likely have the same information repeated, and hopefully not suffer from too many interviewees but not enough time for each (not to mention it'll lose that tacky narration and the unnecessary 10 minutes at the end that are not about the film, but about everything else).

In addition, there's a new documentary all about the music of the film, and the possibility of original song demos as well. Given how important the music is to the film, and based on the preview clips posted earlier, it looks to be quite a great discussion about the music.

And depending on how you feel about the Broadway version, you'll get interviews with notable performers about the musical.

You'll also get the complete Purdum Reel, showing the non-musical treatment of the film. It was only glimpsed at (and just barely) in the Platinum. And there's an additional deleted scene if that floats your boat.

Plus, you'll get a majority of the extras from the platinum (commentary, 75 minutes of various featurettes/deleted scenes/animation footage/trailers), much more is carried over than when Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs returned to DVD.
On the DVD? It's a Christmas miracle! I just assumed that all of the DVDs accompanying Diamond editions would be like that disappointing SW one from last year.

Still, IDK, I paid $40 for the platinum edition, and that was only a few months ago. I don't really want to get a new one so soon.

I just hope they don't put both Fantasia-films on one dvd, as the picture of the OP suggests.

And I would buy the three documentaries if they were available in The Netherlands. I would probably also get Toy Story 3 if it came in some box-set with the first 2 films.

And what you listed is all on the *dvd*? Really? :)

Now I wish I would have read your post before typing a long rant. Now I have to delete it. :D

It doesn't have the 'work in progress'-version, does it? And does the DVD include the 'Human again' sequence? Too bad they lost the galleries. I don't see the use in *dropping* old features that are already there. They just have to port it over.

Oh, and I'm still mad they give the BluRay exclusive features. So, that was my mini-rant. :P

For Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition, They're only dropping some images from the galleires, not the whole thing.

Yep. I typed out the complete (as far as we know) specs for the set in this post, noting what's Blu-Exclusive, what's on the DVD, what's ported over, etc.
Goliath wrote:It doesn't have the 'work in progress'-version, does it?
On the Blu-Ray, the WiP is only presented via picture-in-picture during the sections of the film that were WiP storyboards or pencil animation. As far as we know or can figure out, the WiP will be intact as an actual watchable film on the DVD, since it's listed as a feature for the DVD.
Goliath wrote:And does the DVD include the 'Human again' sequence?
Yes, presumably in the SE version via seamless branching like the 2002 DVD, but with better branching and not as noticeable compression issues.
Goliath wrote:Too bad they lost the galleries. I don't see the use in *dropping* old features that are already there. They just have to port it over.
The 2002 galleries were "virtual" with a lot of animation to go from page to page/room to room, so I can see why it was dropped (it likely took up a fair amount of disc space). But surely they could have simply re-authored it so it's not virtual and just the standard thumbnail menus. Heck, they just ported over the DVD still gallery for James and the Giant Peach to Blu-Ray without bothering to make it 16:9!

I know. I was telling Margos (who's not Blu) that the two-disc DVD out in November won't have galleries, making it one reason to hold on to her Platinum but to still get the new DVD for its supplements.

A great slate of Disney BD's and DVD's this fourth quarter. I've already picked up Prince of Persia, and plan on getting the other BD's mention (plus Oceans and Crimson Wing). The only thing I was hoping to get before Christmas along with the titles already mentioned was the original TRON on Blu-ray.... I guess we'll have to wait on that on til spring.

Thanks so much for the information, Albert! I haven't kept up with the BatB Diamond thread.

Does that mean you can't watch the film without that sequence? Thanks again.

Beauty and the Beast and A Christmas Carol are definite purchases.

Undecided on Fantasia cause I got the bare bones dvd before it was vaulted a few years ago.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

You're welcome. It is quite daunting to read, but has a lot of worthwhile posts, especially whenever jpanimation posts the comparison caps.

Sorry, I should've been more clear about that! The film will be available to watch without "Human Again", as it's listed as having three versions (just like the old DVD): Original Theatrical, Special Edition, and Work in Progress. Like the old DVD, it'll be done via seamless branching, which should be better by 2010 standards than it was eight years ago.

I already picked up Prince of Persia on DVD (via Amazon.com), but after that (money actually being there TOO do this) I hope to pick up on Blu Ray "Oceans," "Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos," "Toy Story 3," "Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales," and on DVD, "Sorcerer's Apprentice," "Walt and El Grupo," "Waking Sleeping Beauty" and "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story."

I'm interested in "A Christmas Carrol," mostly because that is one of my favorite stories, but it may wait as I only have so much money. If I only get one film on my list, it will be "Toy Story 3." "Fantasia/ Fantasia 2000" and "Beauty and the Beast" don't interest me as I already bought them and am happy with the original DVD releases. I was kind of mad at the "Fantasia" release as I was really looking forward to the new shorts ON DVD. Oh well, life goes on I guess.
