Haha, it DOES make the first Ice Age look groundbreaking in its aesthetic by comparison.
I loved Hoodwinked regardless of the quality of the actual animation. It was one of the more clever of the Shrek wanna-bes and the characters are actually quite likable.
Ironically, Hoodwinked Too has far better animation, but it is easily one of the worst sequels and animated films of all time.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sit through the first film because of the character designs, but at least it sounds like I'm not missing out by avidly avoiding the sequel.
