I voted for Return to Neverland b/c I love Peter Pan :pan: !
The only "TV pilots" I saw were Cinderella II and Belle's Magical World. Belle's animation wasn't all that great and looked like a collection of television show episode. As for Cinderella II...

I'm scared to say this on this board, but I actually liked it  (after watching it 3 times). The animation looks great and it's a decent continuation of an essentially "uncontinuable," world known story. My only complaints:
~The colors were way too bright
~The pop music instead of traditional Disney musical numbers was annoying. The lyrics fit, but the music didn't.
~Cinderella saying "Jack" instead of "Jaq" and Jaq saying "Zug-zug" instead of "Zuk-Zuk"
~Pom Pom's name
~the whole three story to make a movie thing. Honestly, if they connected them somehow, it really will be a feature length movie on how "Dreams Come True."

Aside from all that, I still liked Cinderella II as a movie by itself. But as continuing the world known story and doing exactly what Walt Disney never ever ever would do (except for the Three Little Pigs sequels)...that's a different story.

Sequels I Liked as (a) a movie by itself and (b) as a sequel to the oringial:
(a&b)Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas
(a&b)Rescuers Down Under
(a&b)Aladdin and the King of Thieves
(a&b)Return to Never Land
(a&b)The Lion King II
(a)Cinderella II
(a)Lady and the Tramp II
(a)The Little Mermaid II (anyone else think Ariel looks REALLY weird during her last line of the song she "sings with" Melody? She sings "...sing the song of the sea with you...")

Sequels I still want to see:
1. The Lion King 1 1/2 (want to buy too)
2. Stitch! The Movie
3. Pocahontas II
4. The Jungle Book 2 (haven't even seen the original yet)
5. 101 Dalmatians II (I like the English accents for the puppies)

Sequels I didn't like because (a) they continued a classic or (b) I just don't like them:
(a)Cinderella II
Lady and the Tramp II
The Little Mermaid II
(a&b)The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (I didn't even finish watching it)
Return of Jafar
Belle's Magical World

I respect your opinion (though I completely disagree with it), but "Rescuers Down Under" is no cheapquel... it's an expensive-quel! :P

I personally find the word Cheapquel to be very offensive. While no one can doubt the animation on most of the films could have been better with more money, money does not guarentee a good film.

Look at Pearl Harbor - Disney's most expensive film to date, or other films like Reign of Fire, 1492: The Conquest of Paradise, and compare it to films like Ed Wood, Green Card, High Fedelity and O'Brother, Where Art Thou? All undoubtably much better films on a fraction of the budget.

Even Spirted Away had a fraction of the budget of a WDFA film. (about 1,900,000,000 yen according to IMDB, or $18m!

I've always laughed during this part! Maybe she's got a bellyache!
No doubts... this is one one the worst products (no, this is not a film) ever released by Disney! Even the television series was better.

you mean, you dont like it as a follow up to a great classics like The Rescuers, (wich I agree with) but it is FAR from cheap. The story works and at the time it was visually stunning and the most techinally advanced animated film. :)

I'm sorry, but I just cannot see how the Little Mermaid television series was better then the sequel. :?

People call them cheapquels not because they are low budget films, but they are Disney's attempt to cash in on the original success with very little thought, creativity, love put into the cheapquels.

The Lion King 1½ is most definately the best cheapquel so far, with theatrical-quality animation and a well-thought-out, well-exicuted, entertaing concept. Simba's Pride is also very near the mark.

I also loved Pooh's Grand Adventure and thought it faithfully recaptured the Pooh spirit and sustained it through a full-length story very wel. Pooh fans won't be disappointed.

Aladdin and the King of Thievess has a lot going for it, especially the storyline and father/son character dynamic, but it falls short with subpar animation. Notice how in each successive incatation of Aladdin after the original movie (Return of Jafar, the TV series, King of Thieves) the carpet's design gets simpler and less richly detailed? It's just enough for the audience to identify him as the same carpet, and then, well, it's as if the animators thought, "He looks decent enough, let's move along to the next character." Also, even though it was a step up after the terrible Return of Jafar, I can't have it without that one because of a glaring plot hole IF Jafar is not taken too (namely, Iago.) This is the main reason I'm thinking of giving Jafar another look-see soon; if it impresses me well enough I may get the cheapquels on dvd.

In contrast to King of Thieves, Little Mermaid II had well enough animation (even if it wasn't up to the original), but the story was a weak reverse carbon copy of the original and that's one thing I can't forgive. Nice try, but it came out terrible. It and The Enchanted Christmas had their moments but on the whole they were really, really awful and two that I largely resent having in my collection.

I'm sorry guys, but I think that Aladdin and the King of Thieves just sucks! It sucks. It probably worse then Hunchback II (but probably not - it's a tough decision).

Cinderella 2 really isn't that bad. You just need to go into it with the right frame of mind and expectations.

Since Lady and the Tramp 2 (more or less) the proper DTV movies have been improving (more or less). I don't count the TV episode compilations as sequels (although I'll admit its a problem that Disney want to market these as "movies" rather than compliations).

I think "cheapquel" is sort of redundant now. Unless another abomination like Hunchback II shows up :)

"Cheapquels" I Actually Liked

Aladdin and the King of Thieves
Return of Jafar
With these I wasn't disapointed, But I like the Return of Jafar more than the king of thieves form what I can remember of it.

"Cheapquels" I Thought Were Alright, But Could Have Done Without

The Lion King II
Just to say if it wasn't a sequel it would have been a decent movie, but as sequel it was just dissapointing.

"Cheapquels" I Haven't Yet Seen
The Jungle Book 2
The Lion King 1 1/2
Stitch! The Movie
101 Dalmatians II
Pocahontas II
Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II
Lady and the Tramp II
The Little Mermaid II
Return to Never Land

I thought the first sequel to Beauty and the Beast, The Enchanted christmas was a really good sequel, and it wasn't really made in a cheap way like Cinderella 2, this was probably the onlu 'se'quel that I liked better than the original, because I hated the first one.

I wonder why people dislike it so much, I thought the music was really good too.

The Hunchback of N..hahahahahaha.

I couldn't say that with a straight face if I wanted to.

From that list, probably 'Return of Jafar,' though, the concept was kind of lame.
