This article about the upcoming Disney+ series “Prop Culture” has some practically perfect pics of Poppins props. Especially those carousel horses! I think Mary’s must have had some restorative work done on it. I’d love to see these in person.

The post I saw did not give any details. Hopefully they specify in the show... I wonder if even the wig is authentic?

That was my first thought, about the wig, but I didn't want to seem like an idiot to the biggest MP fan, so I didn't mention it, so phew that I'm not alone in thinking that!!!

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
Oh haha no worries I wouldn’t think that! It’s hard to tell though isn’t it? I guess the wig would sit differently on the dress form than it does on Julie’s head— and it just looks so pristine, doesn’t it? I don’t know how wigs age, though.blackcauldron85 wrote:That was my first thought, about the wig, but I didn't want to seem like an idiot to the biggest MP fan, so I didn't mention it, so phew that I'm not alone in thinking that!!!
Tbh I have never liked the wig. It’s very cool though, I had no idea this still existed.

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
I just can't tell if it's the original one or not!!! But I did find this article, of how it was on display at D23 a few years ago...
https://hollywoodmoviecostumesandprops. ... tumes.html
But where do they keep it the rest of the time? Is it her real wig? The show needs to answer these questions!!v

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
Ooh, I think I have seen these photos before!! It’s incredible to see them again! The wig is still a mystery... I guess it must be real? I mean, if it was fake, why wouldn’t they put a wig and the hat on the Jolly Holiday costume? Maybe they only have one of the original wigs in the archive and that’s why? Idk.
I’d like to point out her Jolly Holiday boots for a second— there must have been multiple pairs because those boots are the only thing Julie Andrews ever took from a movie set! I think the story goes that her then husband Tony Walton, the film’s costume designer, knew how much she liked the boots so he took a pair for her to keep, and then years later her second husband Blake Edwards had them filled with sand and turned into door stoppers for a wedding anniversary or birthday.

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
So if there were multiple boots, which makes total sense in case one got damaged, there must have been multiple wigs?!

But maybe Julie pilfered those, too, and just didn’t say. It’s definitely possible bits and pieces of the costumes have been lost, other studios sold off everything and now it’s all in the hands of private collector’s.

Well... they didn’t say a word about the wig, it’s not even featured in the episode.

My first thought seeing that Step in Time art was Night on Bald Mountain; they reminded me of the little demons, with pitchforks!
I am in love with the Jolly Holiday picture: I love the colors- it's so bright!- and it almost looks like it was drawn in crayon, adding to my love of it! Thank you for sharing!!

14. According to Jeffery Sherman, son of Robert Sherman (of the famous Sherman Brothers), he inspired the Mary Poppins song "A Spoonful of Sugar" after he told his dad that he had gotten his polio vaccine on a sugar cube.
15. Dick Van Dyke’s notorious Cockney accent was partially to blame on his Irish vocal coach Pat O'Malley, who, according to him, "didn't do an accent any better than I did."

Today is Glynis Johns’ 100th Birthday! Disney fans probably remember her best as Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins. Here is a new interview with Ms Johns to mark the occasion: https://youtu.be/gb4850B2U_U?si=SpBO9Oxhq2jkUalf
I think I will listen to the OBC of A Little Night Music on my commute today in honor of her!

Wow, a 100 years old! Good for her. Johns was always my favorite part of Mary Poppins as a child, I know that's odd to say. I always loved "Sister Suffragette." That part of the film with the first introduction of the house, the nanny leaving, the cannon blowing and the house coming apart, etc. was always the highlight for me. But I seldom got to watch MP since we didn't own either it or The Wizard of Oz on VHS.
Listening to most often lately:
Abi Carter ~ "Part of Your World" (live)
Taylor Swift ~ "The Alchemy"
Taylor Swift ~ "The Prophecy"

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
That makes my heart sad, since I did grow up with MP + TWoO. But there are plenty of films we didn't have on tape so. I didn't understand until I was older what Winifred was about (the suffrage movement), but she is a delight.

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
Sister Suffragette is one of my favorite songs from Poppins.
I actually like it better than some of the more well known songs, although I find the whole score perfect!
I was disappointed to find it isn’t part of the theater score.
My absolute favorite line.....
Though we adore men individually, we agree that as a group they’re rather stupid...
My feelings exactly even though I’m a guy!!
Glynis was also fantastic in the Walt Disney films The Sword and the Rose
and Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue, both from 1953.

Re: Mary Poppins Discussion Thread
All the songs are amazing, but as an adult, "Sister Suffragette" has definitely become a favorite.
