No it wasn't. And despite me trying to tell everyone last year when these foreign websites updated their so-called schedules that Disney would have announced it if it had gone Platinum and that a spring 2010 release to promote Burton's Alice film was more likely the reason it was quietly vaulted, I was told I was wrong. Now I shall laugh at all you Nay-Sayers: HAHAHAHAHA. I was right!
If I think the extras are worth it, I may get it. I am collecting the films for my brother now as well, so I don't feel it is a double dip per say. But if they suck, then never mind.

Well right now we have:
New bonus features include the deleted scene "Pig and Pepper" considered in the 1930s, and the featurette "Reflections on Alice."

Those are even less popular films than Alice.
Probably not. You see Disney wants everybody to embrace blu ray with all of their hearts and souls and then they release a blu ray once every couple of months. No catalog releases. Just new movies and a couple of big titles a year. I really cannot understand them. They push it & don't sell it.

It really doesn't need a new restoration. The one done in 2004 is near perfection and is ready for a direct HD transfer. The only way I can see it improving is perhaps in some shots where Alice's skintone looks a little dark and makes her hair and lips glow too much, but that's honestly picking nits.
Now, for my thoughts on this...
What a freaking wasted opportunity. What reason can Disney possibly give as to why we're not getting a Blu-ray? The only one I'll accept is that they're putting forth a lot of effort for a 60th Anniversary release next year. Let's see what happens...
I'm rather torn at the moment. Two new features are hardly worth double dipping over, but then again, this IS Alice, and this IS me we're talking about. "Pig and Pepper" is a totally new deleted scene that's never been on any previous release, which makes me curious as to how Disney would've portrayed this sequence from the book. "Reflections on Alice" could either be really engrossing or really fluffy. Either way, it's providing something the current DVD is severely lacking in: retrospective.
Let's see if we'll be receiving a review copy of this. It certainly would make my dilemma easier since I'd get to check out (and keep) the set without technically double dipping. I'd also like the chance to do an in-depth movie review of it. The first one I did (for the Gold Classic Collection) was written when I was just a sophomore in high school and didn't know much about either DVDs or reviewing. Since it was one of the earliest reviews for the site, I had no template to go by and wrote very broadly about everything. The second one I did (for the Masterpiece Edition) was written in a time where most UD reviews devoted one or two paragraphs to the film, so mine followed suit. The DVD part of it I'm satisfied with, but the movie portion needs work. I'm hoping third time will be the charm for me to make my definitive analysis of the film.
As for the cover art, I quite like it. The Mad Hatter's face looks like a little pudgey, but overall, the characters (especially Alice) are quite on-model. For now I'll say I like this cover a bit more than the Masterpiece one (which I also loved). It reminds me a bit of the theatrical poster and evokes the feeling of the Disney's VHS covers where you basically had a group shot with characters in proportion to one another (okay, so they fudged a bit with the Queen and Caterpillar. What I mean is no more floating heads). I do find it strange that they don't have the Dormouse popping out of the teapot in the foreground. Perhaps that'll change.
Now excuse me while I wish on the evening star for "Reflections on Alice" to be over 20 minutes (at least).
I'm fine with the Masterpiece Edition I already own, too.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have the masterpiece edition, so I am absolutely ecstatic. Love the cover, and the Un-Anniversary. And I'm not at all upset about it not being released on Blu-ray, because I absolutely despise blu-ray.

I like the cover art. It's nice. But meh, I'm going to stick with my ME, and the new features will be on Youtube in no time anyway, so no point to get it just for those.
And no blu-ray. I see that Disney would not have just jumped into blu-ray with every friggin' title, but if they're going to get our hopes up, I'm not buyin'.
This release kind of makes sense happening now, and not later in the year. If you look on Amazon, there are another 8 "Alice in Wonderland" movies getting released in feb/march to cash in on the new one, so why not Disney do it now, and cash in on your own flick. The only baffling thing is why not release Blu Ray as well?
Their release strategy really doesn't make sense. One minute they are ramming Blu Ray down our throats, the next minute they just re-re-re-release the same thing, with a couple of new bonus features!!!! I don't get it.
I guess on the upside, it means they aren't totally done with Dvd yet.
Im also...a little confused.....about the lack of a Blu ray annoucment....usually I've said in the past it takes time yada yada yada for them to get it right....but I would've thought Alice would get Blu Treatment before Dumbo.....maybe they are waiting to release the Blu of Alice when the Live Action comes to Blu and DVD.....although that would be a change of pace.....DVD comes first then Blu ray....
I tell ya....Disney's Home video department you'd think is being run by mad Madame Mim its so confusing and crazy.....to paraphrase Naveen for a moment
Disney - one minute they are talking about Blue you should get and whoppity boo and the next thing you know they change their mind and say DVD.....
Unless and I shiver at thsi thought. ...they are getting Alice In Wonderland the cartoon movie ready for a 3D Blu Ray Release???
