Apparently all the commercials for USA's programming are.

I had no idea about the deal between Disney and USA. I saw The Game Plan on there the other day and was wondering the same thing. At anyrate, I'm going to watch it. It'll be shown Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Knowing me, I'll probably watch all airings even though I have it on DVD.

Just a heads up, Mary Poppins will be on ABC Family Monday December 14th as part of the network's 25 Days of Christmas event.

Yeah, I truly didn't know. I never watch USA. Furthermore, when I use guide, I look past USA most of the time. I did know about Pirates though.

So I watched it and I was pretty unhappy. I can understand cutting out a few little bits of the movie to keep it within the time frame (like the part when Edward is staring at his reflection in his sword as Giselle says goodbye to Robert and Morgan), but they screw up So Close completely! Right in the middle of the best part, when it's just the instrumental of the song and Robert and Giselle are truly the center of the dance floor, it was like a Youtube video gone wrong! They never even showed the cutbacks to Jon McLaughlin like it's supposed to. I basically cried because I know that dance and song by heart and it totally screwed me up as I tried to dance along.

Not cool. So I will never watch Enchanted on USA again. Maybe if it comes on one of the Disney channels it won't be butchered that way. It's like the Oscars performace all over again when they skipped the instrumental part and made me unhappy.

Who wants to watch movies on basic cable with commercial interruptions anyway?

It's Enchanted weekend. I've watched it both weekends even though I already have it on DVD. It's coming on again tomorrow night.

Anyway, they really didn't cut out much. Just snippets here and there. I don't recall them cutting out whole scenes. They even showed the first few minutes of the end credits.

That's just soooo wrong. Have you heard the story of some cinema owner in Japan or somewhere who decided to "fix" The Sound of Music by chopping out all the songs? Bizarre but true apparently...

I've watched it both nights so far (it's one of my favorite films, so I wanted to watch it on TV... largely to see how bad the editing would be.... and they're showing special sneak peeks for other upcoming movies during the commercials, which has effectively made me endure the editing again :P) and might watch again tonight, depending on how late my Christmas shopping keeps me out.

I thought that on the whole, the edit job was OK until Giselle and Edward were reunited, then became obviously choppy. And I absolutely agree with DisneyPrincessSyndrome that "So Close" was butchered. Lines cut, instrumental break cut, music badly spliced, lame dance montage, etc. But besides that, the only other cuts that I really didn't like were:

~ the transition as Giselle goes down to the one subway station and comes up another... chopped in the middle, the visual wasn't as cool, but the reason it bothered me was that they really cut and spliced the score awkwardly. It was a really jarring moment, musically.

~ Robert and Morgan in the taxi. They removed all the lines that establish the connection between his gift and his plan to propose to Nancy. (This was the only one that I thought muddied the plot at all, thus, why it bugged me.)

~ in Bella Notte, they cut a few lines right before Giselle declares, "I like talking to you," and I thought it made the line seem really random and almost ditzy.

I missed a lot of the little character moments that got scrapped for TV, too, but again, that's what the DVD is for. I will say that the commercial breaks were pretty well placed, at least.

Thank you Ariellen for agreeing with me. Of all the scenes to mess up with editing USA had to mess with my favorite song. Another scene messed up was Narissa's arrival to New York. The score was literally cut in half and skipped right to when she found Nathaniel in the car.

Ugh, sometimes I just hate cable.

Not gonna lie, I hated how they cut Morgan's line in the taxi about getting a stepmother. I also hated them cutting the beginning of the ball with all the couples dancing. They also cut Narissa's line "You want a show? I'll give you a show".

I noticed that and I was mad that they cut that, it's like my favorite line in the movie.

OMG! Guess what?

So, I was just flipping channel and happened to come on USA. Guess what is currently playing? Enchanted! But, the whole movie is being shown. Yes, there are commercials, but there are no cuts/edited scenes so far. They added 30 minutes to the time slot according to my television on-screen information.

Two questions:

1. Why is USA showing the whole movie, with commercials, at 1 AM?

2. Why didn't they just show the whole movie without cuts during the premiere weekend last week? It just doesn't make sense.

I'm satisfied though :-)

*Yep, it's the whole movie! I started at "That's How You Know" and NOTHING has been cut out so far!

I WATCHED IT TOO! (It was actually ten for me; I love satellite in California.)

I think they did it wrong the first time. If they had given the movie two hours and thirty minutes with commercials instead of two hours with commericals, they wouldn't have to cut anything out. The movie is nearly two hours without commericals and that isn't the same with commericals (unlike 90 minute movies). And there isn't even anything to cut out of the movie; not like it's rated R with cussing and nudity. :] LOL. I'm just glad "So Close" wasn't screwed up. And Narissa's arrival in New York wasn't cut in half!

:]

They've been showing it for a long time on Starz, along with "Wall-E".

STARZ is different; it's the "expensive" paid cable and USA is basic cable. Besides, STARZ must have a deal with Disney or something because that's the only of those channels (when you compare it to HBO or Showtime or Cinemax) that'll show any Disney or PIXAR movie. Don't ask me why I know this, but I think I'm way too attentive to things like that.

Ugh. I know how you feel. I saw this one televised airing of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (which is Disneyesque) and they cut out scenes that I like, like Hushabye Mountain and the first CCBB reprise. Why do TV stations do that?! :x

Money and time. So incredibly stupid. I understand cutting out things from R-rated movies, but kids movies? Really?

I think the worst is whenever Disney Channel (of all channels; doesn't even have paid programming mess in the wee hours of the night) cuts the credits in half. I have a tendency to love the songs in credits. Maybe I'm the only one, though.
