Anyways, back on horses, we come home and mention how my daughter wants to do jumping and my mom says how if she keeps it up, she can eventually join the Olympics..and my father in his infinite wisdom states that's not a sport, he doesn't understand why its in the Olympics when it takes no skill on the part of the rider, its all the horse.

Oh really?

I shoot back at him, he ought to try to control 1200lbs of unpredictable muscle and hope you get out of it alive. Horse sports probably come closest to snow sport when it comes to most danger and fatalities. For the same exact reasons...unpredictability. Horses can be all ready for that jump and at the last minute be, "oh never mind", come to a halt and the rider goes flying over and breaks there neck...snow sports, the skier, snowboarder, etc, could be going down the hill just fine when they hit a bad spot and the snow beneath and around them caves causing them to lose control. Gymnastics, figure skating, running, biking...all of these can and have injuries, but very few people die doing it. Horse riding, there is a far greater chance at dying or having crippling, lifelong injuries

I love my dad, but sometimes, he talks so stupid.

My mom used to ride horses when she was younger, but she fell off (or was thrown off, I don't know), and she damaged I think her collarbone, and all my life, one side of her has been weaker, and she can't lift her arm as much as her other one. Definitely can be a dangerous sport!
