I think there is a decent chance of a new edition soon, as well as for The Rescuers, and The Rescuers Down Under.
I was at a Best Buy today and they had SEVERAL copies of all three. Now, this, in itself, isn't necessarily unusual. What made it catch my eye though, was WHERE these copies were located.
Only a few were in the normal alphabetical listing on the long Disney shelf.
Most were diplayed prominantly at the END of the aisle, in the kind of display usually reserved for new releases/best sellers. Granted, there were some newer Disney releases in this display as well, but I still found it interesting that they would pick these older three titles to pad out the display with. They were the only GC titles in this display (yes, I know The Rescuers wasn't LABELED GC, but it's basically a GC in spirit! - I don't mean the quality of the film as it's one of my faves, I mean the quality of the DVD)
There is not a whole lot of GC/first edition DVD titles left to get their slipcovered/new menu, minor upgrade (in some cases) re-release, except for the remaining package films, the 2 Rescuers, Great Mouse Detective, and of course Hunchback and Hercules.
So, while not wanting to read too much into this, it seems plausible to me that maybe Ichabod/Mr. Toad and the 2 Rescuers DACs may be next in line after Black Cauldron, Bedknobs, and Pete's Dragon, and perhaps retailers may have been tipped off to this so they could sell as much stock of the older versions as possible.
Again, I don't mean to possibly read too much into this, but I found the combination of the large quantity and especially the placement interesting, and I thought some of you guys might as well.
