I have the three disc in the paper box and I really like it. I think it holds the discs well and looks nice on my bookshelf and that's really all I care about.

I would still prefer a version of the DVD without the third disc digital copy. But I am assuming that aint gonna happen. I wanted to see the Pixar documentary on that disc but I dunno if I got the money for that.

Yeah, Prince Caspian and Wall-E were "evil marketing"... I have no reason to ever use a "digital copy" disc (since I can do it myself)... but now they're forcing you to pay for it if you want extras.

You could always buy the 3-disc set and then sell off the digital copy disc to a friend or something

The last time I hit Best Buy, I was surprised to stumble upon a whole section of movies that was especially for digital copies on disc. Most of them were going for $14.99.

Yeah, I've seen those too.

But for $9.99. Most were FOX titles. They were half-size DVD cases and apparently had the movie as well as a digital copy (hey, not a bad value for a movie... and the digital copy is almost free!)

But seriously, if you can buy the movie on iTunes for $9.99, why would you need that? I hate marketing towards n00bs, I wish people would just educate themselves about encoding

Because some people have portable media players which aren't iPods? Or some people want to stream them from their PC around the house?

Why all the hate for Digital Copies? They're a nice addition as many people, including myself, have video enabled iPod's but don't want to spend the same price for an iPod copy as they did for the DVD.

As for Wall-E, I actually went a little overboard to get the one with the digital copy, basically I wasn't working on the release date, so went up to the store that's just a few minute walk from my house- all they had were the 2 disc (I'm talking blu-ray here folks), so I basically bused it to the mall and ended up paying something like $40 for the 3 disc one.

But in the case of Wall-E and Price Caspian, there are ways to get it sans digital copy- but a few catches. First, here in Canada, Disney often releases a second version of their titles (sometime by accident to stores outside Quebec) that feature billingual packaging, and in the case of their recent releases, without a digital copy. Second option, go with Blu-ray. Or three, all digital copies (no matter the studio), have a one year lifespan (meaning that you can't download after the titles been out for a year), so if you wait till November this year, good chance Disney will repackage it without the digital copy.

Um? Digital Copies use iTunes by nature. It just lets you copy it to your PC without paying in iTunes. There's also sometimes a Windows Media version... but how many media players even support DRM WMV? My Zune doesn't at least... I don't think Sansas do either.

I meant, you can take the DVD, stick it in your drive, run some programs, make a copy in whatever format you want. Whether it's iTunes mp4, AVI, WMV, you name it. And no DRM.

It's not that I hate the Digital Copy itself, but the fact that they force you to buy it if you want extras. As like I said, I would *never* pay for one otherwise... since I can do it myself and make one that's actually better quality than the official ones.
I just don't like paying for them... people don't seem to understand that if you buy a DVD, you legally can make backups for yourself... and that would include in mp4 format. Just get the right software, "Digital Copy" is now useless.

But if you want to feed their cash cow, be my guest. :D

No they don't the iTunes versions have iTunes DRM which is not Windows Play for Sure (which my Zen does support). And as God is my witness, just as some people swear off Microsoft, I will never, ever buy a Mac product - overpriced hype if you ask me. And I'm buying Blu-rays. I don't want to buy a DVD as well just to rip it sans DRM.

And you're not exactly "feeding a cash cow" when getting a Digital copy. Only Disney seems to charge extra for it (why are we not surprised? But then again, Disney gives you a DVD for free with selected Blu-rays so I guess it evens out). Some studios may charge extra for the 2 disc DVD set with a digital copy (such as Fox), but they were already doing that, and had been for a long time before Digital Copies were introduced.

What I was saying is that they have one in both WMV PlaysForSure (Which is a type of DRM!!) and iTunes. So people with iPods could just pay $10 on the iTunes store (though I think it's $15 for Disney movies) and get the exact same digital copy.

I don't buy Mac products either... I'm just stating that they have an iTunes version on it. Since I have a Zune, neither one will work. (It doesn't do PlaysForSure for some odd reason). I can either remove the DRM from the official one or make my own... usually I make my own as it's higher quality.

I don't have a problem when it's "Including digital copy"... as long as it's not forced. The problem is, movies like Get Smart have a second disc with both some special features AND a digital copy. So you're still paying for it if you want special features.
Some truly good ones are like Family Guy: Blue Harvest, that sells for $10 and has a "free" digital copy version. I just hate having to pay for a digital copy when I just want bonus features.

As far as buying Blu-Rays... there's always DVD rental, or getting a Blu-Ray drive... I suppose for those it's more logical as it's on an actual DVD, but if Disney gives you a DVD too you can rip that... I only buy DVDs (and plan to rent Blu-Rays if I want to watch them in HD)... so it's easy enough for me to do.

As for people thinking it's blatant piracy... it's really not... I paid for the movie, didn't I? With some like Wall-E I paid to see it in theaters AND I will pay for a DVD. While there are certain laws about circumventing copy protection, there's also a thing called "fair use" that says you can make a copy for personal use... not specifying what format it's in.

I love digital copies. And as far as I'm concerned, I'd still be paying the same price for the movies whether or not it had the digital copy, I consider another bonus. So far I've got Dark Knight, Nightmare Before Christmas, Star Wars Clone Wars (the movie), and WALL-E and I think it's great to have those movies on my iPod for when I'm on the go.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

Sorry for grave digging... but I'm really getting annoyed.

Every time I check Target, all their copies of Wall-E still have the paper cases. They've got about 20 of the 3-disc all in paper. I checked there just a few days ago, even.
Wal-Mart also had them all in paper cases. As did Kroger.

So I don't know why the metro-Detroit area isn't getting any plastic case versions but I really want to buy Wall-E on DVD and just don't want a paper case.

Would somebody who CAN get one be willing to buy me one and ship it to me? I can pay for the DVD and shipping to whoever is willing.
I would just use Amazon or somewhere but there's no saying whether it'll be in paper or plastic and I *really* don't want a paper case.

Sorry if this belongs in the Trade forum.
