I agree. Plus I didn't really like the S2 cover anyway. It looks like a Flintstones ad gone horribly wrong.Lazario wrote:I like the front cover a lot. Much better than the one from the 2nd season (they should have saved that for the 4th, before Max proposed, when she was at her most desperate).
But, I am SO excited for this DVD release! I will be buying it the day it comes out!

Be very careful when purchasing "The Nanny: Season 3" on DVD. Make sure you shake the case before you buy it to make sure the discs aren't loose. The reason I say this? Because the third season DVD set is packaged in a standard DVD keepcase, and all three discs are piled on top of each other on the one spindle in the center. There is nothing to separate the discs, and they are directly on top of each other, with nothing to protect them. Luckily, I lucked out and there was nothing wrong with my discs. In other words, the packaging is a standard DVD case with all 3 discs held in the center spindle one on top of the other, all housed in a slipcover. The episode guide is a double-sided insert. The other insert is the "Television is Better with Sony" booklet that comes in every Sony TV-on-DVD release, but this time it has been updated to show newer DVD releases.
I took a picture of the packaging (I tried holding both the case and the slipcover in one hand), disc one isn't on top because it's in the DVD player as I type, and was when I took the picture. Anyway, without further ado, the less-than-FRANtastic packaging (CLICK the image to enlarge):

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that they finally released the third season on DVD, I just think they could have stuck with the original packaging for seasons 1 and 2.

I also noticed a few problems with the DVDs for season 3. They may seem major, but I don't care about them because I'm just thankful to have the series on DVD.
1) The packaging (obviously).
2) The episode "The Unkindest Gift" seems to have been renamed "The Unkindest Cut" on this set.
3) In a few of the episodes, there is a Closed Captioned logo in the corner of the screen for the first few seconds, as if the first few seconds of the episode was taken from an airing on TV. It's not like only a few episodes are Closed Captioned, every episode is (the back of the box says so, and I double checked to make sure).
I find all these things very fishy, but I'm happy season 3 has arrived. I only have one more episode on the set (although I skipped "Oy To The World"), and who knows how long we'll have to wait for season 4...

Well, I meant to mention this earlier, but I wanted to be 100% sure before posting this, but user OKCRay over at IMDb made a post mentioning the one last flaw with the set, the one that all fans dread - music replacement.
You can even see it for yourself if you own the set on DVD if the closed captions are on - they lyrics to the original songs used still show up.Glad to finally have these on DVD, however one word of caution... I'm afraid THE NANNY has also fallen victim to music substitution (apparently due to copyright/licensing issues). There may be more instances in the set, but two that jumped right out at me were in "Pen Pals" (where Fran has the fantasy of being an astronaut, the 2001 theme music is replaced by a generic instrumental) and in "Val's Apartment" ("Clang Clang Clang went the trolley..." is replaced by generic disco music... this totally waters down the joke where Fran and Val open the door thinking "maybe there are some straight guys here after all!").
This complaint aside, I'm glad to have the set. It sure is nice to have Niles making CC "cluck like a chicken"!!!

At first, I really didn't mind about that awful Judy Garland song. But I do agree DisneyFreak5282 is right. People could hear General Disco Music and think anything they want to. But the Judy (or Liza, I don't know which) thing would definitely be more obvious.
The 2001: A Space Odyssey thing bothers me much more. And here I was, originally so impressed that Sony didn't skimp on the rights to "Maniac" (Michael Sembello, Flashdance- 1983) in the Whine Cellar episode. Nor the several usages of "I Will Survive" for the Hustle sequences in the The Playwright episode. Both in the 2nd Season.
