Whatever u do don't tell Scaps (Escapay) that.The_Iceflash wrote:I know this is probably wrong but I haven't bought any Disney movies unless it has a slip cover. Yeah...I don't like them. In fact, I was the one who championed for all slipcover discussion to be archived into one thread, which appropriately is called The Frickin' Slipcover Discussion Thread Archive. Now, whenever a new thread is made about slipcovers, it's added to this thread, and when this thread gets too big, posts get moved to the frickin' archive thread. So now there's less and less slipcover threads on UD! Yay!
And really...you passed on movies that NEVER had a slipcover because of the fact that they don't have one?!?! Dude, you're missing out on great films with great DVDs because of that. After all, shouldn't the quality of a film determine whether or not you add it to your collection, not whether or not it comes with a flimsy piece of cardboard that'll sit with the case on your shelf?
Of course, many longtime UDers will know of my many tirades against slipcovers, so I'll spare you any more of my complaints. Just remember that you're buying a movie because you enjoy it, not because you want a piece of cardboard...unless you're Alan*

Unlike Alan I have seen the movies I've bought before I've bought them. lol
I'm gonna start re-thinking my DVD collecting strategy. Plus, movies like Monsters, Inc; Brother Bear, Dinosaur, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Home on the range, Chicken little, etc aren't being re-released anytime in the near future anyway so it can't hurt picking those up. I'll just hold up on buying DVDs that originally came with one because I've been pretty good getting those at used DVD stores with it. (i.e Moviestop)
Sometimes, slipcovers are cool when they offer alternate artwork to the DVD case itself (War of the Worlds did this).
Otherwise, they are just a cheap way to attract the consumer's attention.
Nonetheless, after I began to get them, I noticed half my Disney DVDs were covered and half were not. My twinge of OCD kicked in and now I must have slipcovers. Something about how they make the DVD cases boxy - more like books - is appealing to me.
I'm assuming Treasure Planet did not have a cover since it isn't on this list?

That's exactly how I am about them. I like having a consistent look on my shelf and putting a non-slipcover Disney movie in the middle of all the slipcovered ones annoyed me. I like the boxy look the slipcovers give them. I've been putting off buying movies like "The Emperor's New Groove" and "A Bug's Live" since I haven't been able to find it in a slipcover (and they both originally came with one). I also called about those and getting slipcovers but they said they don't have any at all to give out anymore except for those who have damaged covers that need replacing.Neal wrote:Sometimes, slipcovers are cool when they offer alternate artwork to the DVD case itself (War of the Worlds did this).

MovieStop was like a godsend when a new one opened in my town last February. I actually found Yellow Submarine there for $9.99, The Incredible Adventures of Wallace & Gromit for $1.99, and the Alien Quadrilogy Bonus Disc (cause I don't care for Alien: Resurrection and have repeatedly delayed getting Alien 3) for $3.99. Haven't had any good Disney deals, though, beyond Chronological Donald Volume Two for $19.99.The_Iceflash wrote:I'll just hold up on buying DVDs that originally came with one because I've been pretty good getting those at used DVD stores with it. I think we go to the same one (See other thread). If so we both are going to be racing to see who finds the good stuff first. lolEscapay wrote:Yay!The_Iceflash wrote:I'm gonna start re-thinking my DVD collecting strategy. This reminds me of when I was in Florida and found out one of my co-castmembers was a regular reader of UltimateDisney.com (but he never posted in the forums). It's awesome in that "wow, that's a weird coincidence" way.The_Iceflash wrote:I think we go to the same one (See other thread). Question about slipcovers
I heard that disney sends free slipcovers if you need them right? My next question is does any other studios do this with their slipcovers as well?
thanks

UD Forum Posting Guidelines and Helpful Links
Do Not Start New Threads About Slipcovers
UD's reviews always mention if a DVD initially came with a cardboard slipcover, and so does Jake Lipson's thread...so there is positively no reason that new threads asking about titles should be started. You are entirely welcome to discuss those cardboard packaging treats that sometimes open like a book and sometimes don't. But leave discussion for Jake's thread or a topic already discussing the relevant DVD.

There's a $6.95 shipping charge, so in essence, you're paying $7 for a frickin' piece of cardboard.DisneyLover27 wrote:I heard that disney sends free slipcovers if you need them right?

I still can't believe that in the midst of Disney's slipcover frenzy in the early 2000's, they never had a slipcover for the original 2 disc ed of Brother Bear.
That kinda ruined the collection for me.
Plus I am bothered that they started putting slipcovers on the Studio Ghibli films when the earlier releases of Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away do not have them. I think I will sell off any of the Studio Ghibli slipcovers I have though I doubt they will go for much.
