This one and others like it are just skits with a theme. Its barely worth a rental price. I saw the first Scary Movie and since then, avoid all others like it. They are just pathetic. You want to watch a good parody, watch Spaceballs. These are just an insult to people's intelligence.

Disaster Movie

Post by Disney Duster »

Well...doesn't anyone think that the makers of these movies realize they are so bad?

Nowadays, people make bad, stupid movies intentionally because some people like things because that are so bad. Kind of like so bad it's good.

I certainly appreciate stupid humour. It can be very funny. Sure, you hate yourself for laughing, but you still laugh. And I certainly like pop culture references and parodying. Sure, pop culture jokes have no place in movies to become classics, but that's not what they're going for.

And the whole "Disaster" and "Epic" titles are just jokes now. You can tell they just make fun of the most recent hit movies, and then they have to give it some name. Maybe calling it "Disaster Movie" really is a joke that the things they make fun of are disasters (to them) and that the movie they make will be a big disaster, too. But people like to watch disasters of movies because it can be very funny.

I really want to see this because of the Enchanted references. Ha, and Enchanted was full of references to other movies, and kind of spoofed Disney movies!

I'm not sure the makers DO realize how unfunny they are. Apparently, some disturbed folks DO find their stuff funny, so I don't doubt they do as well.

However, bad comedy like this is not really what a "so bad it's good" movie is. Bad comedy like this is just bad. If it doesn't make you laugh, it's not "so bad it's good", it's just pathetic. "So bad it's good is more a reference to movies that try really hard to be epic, serious, or at least good and are bad by accident. Opinions vary, but films often put in this category by their fans are Howard the Duck, Jingle All the Way, and Ed Wood's stuff. A comedy CAN be so bad it's good, but not really this variety, because these jokes are either funny or not. If they're bad, they reek.

I know that August 29th was the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, but I don't understand why people are getting all bent out of shape because a movie with the word "disaster" in the title is being released on the same day. The article even said that no natural disasters are made fun of in this movie. Now had they made fun of Katrina in this movie, that would be another story.

The film has a 0% (is that surprising at all?) approval rating on rotten tomatoes, a 1.3/10 rating on IMDB and it grossed $6.17 million on it's opening weekend.

Date Movie is coming soon however.

I found it funny that Disaster Movie did not even come in the top five box office grossers of the weekend. Maybe this may finally be the end of awful parody movies (Though I wouldn't count on that).

Those people who think they can't live without seeing this movie should just wait for the DVD release in a few weeks, and then use their Rent One Get One Free card, and make sure it is the one they get for free. That is all it is worth.

Don't understand why anyone would want to waste their time with these poorly made, low-budgeted, excuses for comedy. I get more laughs from just watching my 10-month-old granddaughter learning to walk.

Not exactly related to the thread in question, but Bill I love your manipulated Grumpy Old Men avatar. I got more laughs out of seeing that than I would have if I wasted my time on this garbage movie. :)

I have a BIG hatred towards the "______Movie" series.

OK, I admit I enjoyed the Scary Movie series, the fourth being my favorite. But these movies are pathetic in every way. I honestly don't see how they can be so bad that they are good. They are just plain bad, period.

What hurts me even more is that I remember a time in which comedy and parody movies were refined, funny and INSPIRED.

Last summer me, my best friend and his girlfriend saw "Airplane!" and remembered how great it was. Even though it wasn't a parody film (though you could say it spoof airplane rescue plots) the humor was so better executed. What I loved is that sometimes the jokes are so subtle and quiet that you miss them, but when you do notice them its a riot.

Leslie Nielsen also did a fantastic job being a character that was both a parody and a tribute, especially since he had the voice and the presence of a serious actor.

Now, all they do is take what is popular, create a very loose plot that somehow combines all of the movies, add in some D-list celebrities bashing, some internet jokes, cursing, fecal matter and rap music for the kids, and you have a movie.

"Meet the Spartans" REALLY annoyed me. When you have to point out a joke you know the humor is lost. Spartans did this A LOT, constantly saying "This is funny because_________! LAUGH!!!!".

I don't claim to be a comedy expert. I can't write comedy nor I understand human humor. But even I can tell that these movies are made for the low class movie audiences that expect to be fed with bad humor and be happy.

But karma does its job well. While they keep crapping these movies out, the classics will still be remembered, watched and loved.

"Airplane!" will be timeless, while "Spartans" will be forgotten and people of the future will go "eeeeeh?" when they see Chris Crocker appear on a character's chest.
