DISNEY MANIA 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ernest, you crack me up.
Another vote for "Stay Awake" here. I plan to Stay Away (har har) from any teenybopper compilations.
In a way it's just as well that the Disney Store sucks now and I never go there. I can completely avoid the horrifying music videos of Jump 5 and their ilk ruining my favorite Disney songs. (Needless to say I also ignore those "special" features on Disney DVDs)

I seem to be one of the few who really liked Disney Mania - my favorite was Anastacia's version of Someday My Prince Will Come, just because it sounded so differnet and new.
Here is the tracklisting for Disney Mania 2:
1. Whole New World, A (from "Aladdin") - LMNT
2. Once Upon Another Dream (from "Sleeping Beauty") - No Secrets
3. He's A Tramp (from "Lady And The Tramp") - The Beu Sisters
4. It's A Small World - Baha Men
5. Circle Of Life (from "The Lion King") - Disney Channel Circle Of Stars
6. Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes, A (from "Cinderella") - Daniel Bedingfield
7. Welcome (from "Brother Bear") - Jump5
8. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah - Stevie Brock
9. When You Wish Upon A Star (from "Pinocchio") - Ashley Gearing
10. Siamese Cat Song, The (from "Lady And The Tramp") - Hilary & Haylie Duff
11. True To Your Heart (from "Mulan") - Raven
12. Main Street Electrical Parade - They Might Be Giants
In general I like the song selection as it seems to cover so many different 'era's' of Disney music and I love Disney cover versions, but I have to say I'm disappointed that "Aloha E Koma Mai" by JUMP5 isn't on the CD.
Although the first CD seemed to have more 'big-name' acts I'll reserve my judgement until I hear this volume, although I am excited about it!

I must admit that I am not into the 'Disneymania' stuff either, but I really don't listen to musical groups like that. I'm more into electronic music like VNV Nation, Frontline Assembly, stuff like that. There is an online radio show that plays it: http://www.synthetic.org

I remember in the early 90's how the Disney Store used to have top-drawer merchandise as well as plastic junk...you'd walk in and your wallet would start screaming because some of the clothes were beautiful and eye-popping, they had leather jackets, designer glasses, framed posters, walls of books and movies...walk in there today, and it's like walking into a plastic junk fest. One small revolving display of movies and CDs. Not a stitch of clothing worth buying. Hordes and hordes of gawdy plastic junk.
As for Jump 5 and the rest -- I'm not a music Nazi - everyone likes what they like in music, and it's not my place to tell someone else what THEY should like to listen to (Disney "cheapquels" to Walt's films - that's a different story). But the artists lined up for Disney Mania 2 -- aside from They might Be Giants, it's just not my cup of tea, because if the recent tweener covers on the DVD are any indication, it's a CD made up of a group of junior high students who sound like they're just singing along to a programmed music track. It's like "Disney Karaoke" with over-the-top production and hip-hop beats. Again, no different than my niece coming over to sing along to the programmed beats of my Casio keyboard.
So, no thanks.
Stay Awake was brilliant. It was a work of ART. DisneyMania sounds like a work of marketing.

Ditto. In the early 90's, I would spend a few hundred a month at the Disney Store. Now when I go, I can hardly find anything that I want to buy.Ernest Rister wrote:I remember in the early 90's how the Disney Store used to have top-drawer merchandise as well as plastic junk...you'd walk in and your wallet would start screaming because some of the clothes were beautiful and eye-popping, they had leather jackets, designer glasses, framed posters, walls of books and movies...walk in there today, and it's like walking into a plastic junk fest. Hey Ernest, we agree on something

I've always wanted David Byrne to do some Disney. Some of The Lion King's tunes would be ideal.

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

In the instruction booklet that came with Kingdom Hearts there was an ad for the [at the time] upcoming [first] Disney Mania CD.
In the corner of the CD cover, in one of the boxes was "Volume 1 - POP".
Maybe Disney Mania was originally conceived as a multi-disc, multi genre look at Disney music.
I'd actually love to see some jazz artists cover Disney songs.
We've had country, dance, classical, pop, new age, instrumental, bluegrass, crazy Japanese techno and even music-box style albums of Disney songs - how about jazz and especially electronia or trip-hop?
I'm open to almost all versions of Disney songs and sometimes the more 'far-out' or different versions can really add a new insight to the original song.
Dave Brubeck and Louis Armstrong have both done full length albums of Disney songs, now I think it's time that some modern day jazz artists should be heard.
In addition to the great 'Stay Away' that many people have talked about, I also recommend 'Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah' - SONY / LEGACY CK48643. It's a collection of Columbia artists convering songs from Snow White through Peter Pan. Artists on this compilation include Artie Shaw, Kate Smith, Gene Krupa, Benny Goodman, Dinah Shore, Les Brown and Rosemary Clooney. A very interesting listen, and it's the only CD (other than the 75 Years boxed-set) that I know of to feature songs from 'Make Mine Music', 'Fun and Fancy Free' and 'Melody Time'. It also has nice liner notes that go into detail about the movies and the songs featured on the disc.
LOL
- I can 't be the only person who appreciates Benny Goodman, Dave Brubeck, Soul II Soul, Vanessa-Mae, Jump 5, and Anastacia, can I?

I agree, Disney Store was once awesome and is now CRAP. And they wonder why it's not doing well. Sigh...
Jazz could be cool. One of my best friend's dad is a jazz guitarist, I've been telling her to tell him to cover a Disney song, that would be cool. Je already has 'My Favorite Things.' I'm not a HUGE jazz fan, but I like it enough.
Who is LMNT?

You may remember the ABC reality series "Making The Band" from a few years ago. LMNT is basically the guys who didn't get in to the band OTown, which the show created. There only single released without Disney's help was a hit on Radio Disney and was called "Juliet." Disney has since taken the band under their wing, had them do a song for "101 Dalmations 2," and their current Radio Disney hit is called "It's Just You" and is on the "Kim Possible" soundtrack. If you watch Disney Channel for 30 minuites, your bound to see their music video (They play it too much).
I'm mostly excited to hear Raven's version of "True To Your Heart." She is an awsome singer. I rememner the Beau Sisters from "The Princess Diaries" soundtrack. They are also pretty talented. I'm a huge fan of the "Mainstreet Electrical Parade," but I've only heard They Might Be Giants on the opening credits of "Malcolm In The Middle," and based on that song, I don't know how good their version is going to be.

I think that "Once Upon (Another) Dream" is a missed opportunity. They had they chance to turn it into a romantic love song a la Beauty and the Beast, A Whole New World, and If I Never Knew You.
They could have had it a duet between two ADULT performers (I can't think of who...) and had it set on the grounds of the Sleeping Beauty Castle at night. The castle could be all lit up with hundreds of tiny white lights...
Instead it's set on the movie's backgrounds, and sung by a group I'd never heard of before this...

If you really want to hear this CD and feel like wasting some $, it's part of the rotation at WDW, which means you can either (a) go there and stroll around Downtown Disney or (b) Call WDW Info or Reservations...long distance... and enjoy your hold-time and hang up when they FINALLY pick up. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to listen.
I actually happen to be planning a trip there, so when I called I heard several of them. Not that bad, not that good...somewhere in between (judging solely by those I heard on the phone), but not as good as DM1.

Jeez, if there was any doubt over whether they had sold out with the Malcolm in the Middle song, there is none now.
Can't say I'm really familiar with any of the other "artists", but then again, it isn't really my scene...
