What Disney hasn't done in feature animation yet

Disney, after all, is hardly a company you expect to break taboos or critique society with their films. They play it safe.
Which doesn't stop certain groups of people from accusing Disney that it is infecting children with ' wrong ideas'.

While I have no problem whatsoever with every adult having the right to do whatever they want with his/her sex life, I do have a problem with my kids being exposed to things they will have time to find out later!!!

Suppose your kids are exposed to gay relationship through film or TV ("Will and Grace" for instance) what do you think will happen? Will they 'turn' gay (something which will not occur, because you simply are or you aren't) or will they just find out there are other kind of love-relationships than man-woman?
If you want to avoid that your kids are exposed to anything 'they will have time to find out later', than there's a lot your kids cannot watch.

To begin with, you should never show them Huncback of Notre Dame because it has a dark sexual undertone.

Bringing it back to the very beginning...

As far as I know, Disney have not a movie that is really gothic. The Hunchback of Notre Dame contains some classic elements, but I don't see it as really gothic.

I think that The Hunchback of Notre Dame is as gothic as Disney is willing to go. As it is, Hunchback sticks out for being so dark, I don't think they'll go deeper into the genre. Don't get me wrong - I love Hunchback! - but I think that's it for Disney in terms of gothic.

Disney has a pretty open relationship with gays... Howard Ashmen, Rufus Wainwright (music for Meet The Robinsons) Elton John (music for The Lion King) to name a few have all worked quite closely with Disney and were/are all openly gay men.

I think it could be possible to see some gay themes in DAC soon... Just as soon as Disney realizes how much money we have, we will show up in their films lol.

And as for respecting peoples opinions... You will earn my respect as soon as I earn yours. Just because you're uneducated about something, or are uncomfortable discussing something that YOU brought up, doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't be able to express our opinions on the matter as well.

Educate yourself and your children and it will no longer be the "gay issue" it will just be another way of life than you live yourself.

Isn't that some kind of computer-game? I'd rather see Disney adapt a real classic adult story like "Aida" or "Midsummer Night Dream". Now that's something to chew on!

Well, technically it was first released for the Sony PlayStation in 1997, by Squaresoft. It was then ported to PC some nine months later, and released by Eidos Interactive.

I understand that many people here would not be interested in a Disney Final Fantasy VII adaptation. I guess the wish stems from my rabid fanaticism of the game.

I would have thought that the most obvious thing impeding them would be getting film rights. I mean ... would Square-Enix really let an American animation studio make a film of one of their own stories? They probably either want to do it themselves, and if they don't, nobody will.

As to the darkness ... well, that's what fascinates me. I think a Final Fantasy would work well in either traditional hand-drawn animation or CGI (though I would expect Disney to keep the original anime designs), but would most likely earn a PG-13 rating in the US. Final Fantasy fare would be something Disney would like to label with Touchstone, but you can't label something with Touchstone when it came out of Walt Disney Animation Studios (at least, I don't think so)!

How I'd love to see a Disney + WD Animation Studios in front of such a film. It would completely cripple the belief that the Disney name can only be plastered on family-friendly stuff.

Of course, all that I'm talking about is hypothetical and likely won't happen even if I die for it. Bye-bye Disney adaptation of Final Fantasy VII.

Firstly... It's been done already... and recently too...
Secondly... Disney making a FF film would be like Dreamworks making a Lion King film... Doesn't work.

It's much less to do with Disney not wanting to take it on because of the dark content (they treaded dark water before... maybe not often, but they have gone there... Black Cauldron, HOND etc...) and more that it would just be a terrible move on their part as a company.

Disney has done pretty well for themselves over the past century (almost) as being leaders of this industry... Yes, they have redone classic stories... and yes, they have taken ideas from other events and projects in pop culture.

But they have never done something like this (making a final fantasy film) for a reason... There would be no benefit in it for them. Even if the film was a success... It would just go down as Disney's version of something that had already been done greatly by another company.

You know, the Kareoke - even the choice of the song and the fact he rushes in to the rescue with a Gloria Gaynar song (and loves Strisend). It's all stereotypical, but Disney aren't even tying to hide the fact he is gay if you ask me. (Yes, he ends up with a brainscrambled Foxy, but in a more platonic "girlie" friend type of way if you ask me).

Yeah... Runt of the Litter is pretty stereotypically gay, you're right.

I also always felt like Scar was gay too... You know, eccentric gay uncle. The way he moves (I know he's a cat, but watch him... There is a lot of stereotypical "gay" in the way he moves...) Some of the things he says, "Ooo I shall practice my curtsy." etc...
