The second film is a little more fast-paced than the first one, but that is actually one of its liabilities.

It would have been a much better film if it had not been a Rescuers movie. As a sequel to The Rescuers, it's very disappointing. If you see it first (like I did) then it's a really good movie.
I agree, I saw the second one before seeing the first one, so I like 'm equally. As a sequel I can imagine it would be disapointing to those who loved the first one

I'm looking forward to the three muskateers. I saw the preview when they showed mickey's christmas carol and it looks pretty good. I think the other potential good/decent ones could be mulan II and III and mickey's twice upon a christmas.

I suppose tarzan II could be decent if it isn't like tarzan and jane YUCK!! :P

I wasn't a fan of lilo and stitch so I really doubt that I would like the sequal.

As for bambi and dumbo.... hmmmm.... I predict that they won't be so good....

state of development

Post by englishboy »

I believe many of these sequels are in jeporady because of the closure at Orlando recently. Also some are indefinitely stalled in development. Here's my list:

Lilo and Stitch 2- 2004. With the failure of the TV show, this looks unlikely.

Tarzan II- 2004- story picks up where original tarzan left off. This has been hovering in development forever.

The Hefalump movie- 2004. From what I understand, this was a GO but also an Orlando project. So who knows.

Three Muskateers- August 2004. Yep.

Dumbo II- September 2004- gist of the movie- after accidentally getting disconnected from the circus, the animal children end up in the big city and have to find their way home. I believe this is no longer in production. This was once a 2d, then a 3d, then a combo, and then nothing due to story problem.

Mulan II- September 14, 2004- they say that the gist of the movie is that Mulan and Shang's wedding is interrupted as they are set off on a secret mission, Mushu also comes along to mess things up

Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas- November 2004. This will come out in 3d.

Bambi and the Great Prince- 2005. I believe this is no longer actively in development.

Mulan III -2005

The Emperor's Newer Groove- 2005. I'd be very interested to know about this. There were TV plans at one time, cancelled.

I am not 100% certain about most of the listed projects, so I won't comment, but the information about "THe Hefalump Moivie" you've given is inaccurate. Direct-to-video sequels and films developed from Disney's Television unit have never been produced by Disney's "Main" feature studios (Orlando and Burbank). The closest was "A Goofy Movie" which was animated by their Paris unit and had some clean-up and coloring (I think) done in Burbank. The sequels (and such) are usually produced by either their Tokyo or Sydney studios.

THM was animated by Walt Diney Japan in Tokyo. Sadly, it will be the last film animated by these incredibly talented animators as the studio is being shut down upon completion of THM (which may already be so). So, this film is not only "not in jeapordy" but in full production (but I'll bet the animators are working really slow so they can keep their jobs longer :)

I also want to say something, and I may be flamed on this board, but what's with all the hating?! Most of the people that post on this board just whine and complain about the "cheapquels."

I agree that Disney is running out of ideas and I guess I can reluctanly see how people's childhood memories are "ruined" by watching the Disney sequels. Okay. DON'T WATCH THEM. I would be amazed to hear someone say that the mere fact that they exist ruins their memories.

The Rescuers Down Under was (IMHO) one of the greatest films ever made- never mind the fact that it was animated, Disney, a sequel, whatever. I loved that film. I watched it on it's own merits and fell in love with it.

But of course it wasn't a "cheapquel." Beauty and the Beast is my favorite film of all time. The fact that there was a sequel or "midquel" didn't bother me in the least. I wanted to see it. Now, as it happened it was a BAD MOVIE. That didn't stop me from watching other sequels.

I've been dissapointed before (Pocahontas 2- or at least the second half of Pocahontas 2, Cinderella 2- although the animation was gorgeous, and the awful Stitch the Movie) but I loved "Return to Neverland" and "Lady and the Tramp 2." Also, whether anyone agrees with me or not I felt that "The Lion King 2 was SO far superior to "The Lion King in terms of animation and character development it wasn't even funny. I adore the work done by the Sydney and Tokyo studios (Gargoyles was animated by the Tokyo animators), and I'm sad that the Tokyo studio is closing. I'll gladly buy anything animated by Sydney. Even if the story is bad the animation is sure to be beautiful.

Anyway, again, what's with all the hatred? Either watch the sequels or don't but judge them on their own merits.
