I really think that Sword has a big chance at the 2-Disc treatment. Sword is loved my many fans and ranks in the top 20 of Disney movies, so I could see this happening.

Disney doesn't do two disc anymore, remember?

I'm surprised at how quickly it's coming out. I expected Oct/Nov at the earliest. Doesn't matter much, because unless it is 2-Disc I won't be buying it anytime soon. The GC disc is satisfying enough until after I get all 46 animated classics on DVD, then I'll start "upgrading".

Then again maybe Jerry B. Puts down his iron fist and demands Disney to put a 2-disc version of his films he made for them i.e. Pirates National Treasure etc either that or he has more power to see his films out available on 2-disc

Stupid Disney!!! I heard that the Gold Classic version was going "back into the vault" in the coming weeks, so I finally got around to picking it up at work. Now this!!! C'mon!!!

That's usually what happens. When a film goes into the Disney vault like that, silently, that usually means Disney is planning a new release.

I'm happy that this film will be recieving a full restoration along with some (hopefuly) worthy materieal, wouldn't mind seeing a wealthy documentary on the myth of King Arthur.

I'm really hoping we will see a nice new cover art for this film. The previous cover arts have all been pretty unimpressive and plain. I'm hoping this time Disney will put some of the other characters on the cover as well. I still think the cover should feature Arthur pulling the sword from the stone as a main focus, but hopefully they will make room for Merlin at least, and possible/hopefully even Madame Mimm.

I'm not surprised that The Sword in the Stone is getting a new release, but I AM really happy about it! As soon as I heard it going out of print , I kind of knew Disney had a new release in store. Most likely it'll get a 1.75:1 Widescreen aspect ratio, provided 101 Dalmatians doesn't get the same picture treatment.

Overall: CAN'T WAIT!

Don't know if I'll get it. I already have the Gold Collection disc, and that was pretty packed as far as that series goes. An all new transfer and game doesn't sound all that appealing for a double-dip. We'll just have to wait and see the specs, and, of course, Ultimate Disney's review, to see whether or not it's worth a repurchase.

101 Dalmatians is being released in 1.33:1 so Sword will either be full or widescreen, it might even be both like Lady And The Tramp was.

101 Dalmatians is being released in 1.33:1 so Sword will either be full or widescreen, it might even be both like Lady And The Tramp was.

I'm a little skeptical about that. Dumbo, The Fox and the Hound, Robin Hood, and The Aristocats didn't get both fullscreen/widescreen options. They were either JUST fullscreen or widescreen.

Well... Dumbo doesn't count, it wasn't meant to be cropped.

How is it that whenever there's a thread about a movie , it always ends up talking about ratios and transfers?

Disney is the only people who know what the right transfer is.

Because that's pretty much what a lot of people look for when buying DVDs. But that's not to say that's all that matters to a film. 101 Dalmatians is getting a fullscreen ratio, but it's STILL an incredible film, and I STILL want it badly!!!

Nah, I think they will add a few characters. I think Merlin and Madame Mim will earn a spot on the cover. But I agree, I think it will resemble the Gold Collection in regards to Arthur pulling the sword from the stone - and definitely a holographic slipcover.

I'm pretty sure that 101 Dalmatians was originally 1.33:1 ratio. It was the first film to use a new xerox process, and fills the entire 4:3 screen. It was intended by its creators to be a fullscreen picture.....without matting by theater owners. We will be seeing the desired picture on this release the same way we have seen the intended ratios on the recently matted animated releases mentioned above.
