Why would you want more movies to be added to the platinum edition ?

It's bad enough that we have to wait half a decade till Aladdin and Beauty & the Beast come in Blu-ray !

Chances are very slim that Disney will add anymore titles to the Platinum line. It was originally only supposed to be 10, then they added 4 more in 2003. The whole point of the Platinum Edition line is for it to be a prestigous set of Disney's best movies. It wouldn't be nearly as special if half or more of the movies were Platinum Editions. However, I do agree that Dumbo should have been Platinum. This is the only Disney film that I think should have been platinum that was not. However, I don't think Disney should, or will add anymore titles to the Platinum line.

As we all know, though, Disney collection titles don't mean much. The "Alice in Wonderland" and "Pocahontas" 2-disc sets, for example, seem just like Platinum Editions, but they're not.

So, as long as "Snow White", B&tB, etc., are released again in 2-disc sets, it really doesn't matter if they are called "Platinum Editions" or not.

Also, as long as some other animated classics get good 2-disc treatments, it really doesn't matter if they are called "Platinum Editions", or "Special Editions", or "Collector's Editions" or whatever.

So what was the original list, and what were the titles added in 2003? If you don't mind me asking :)

In fact, some are even better than some of the bad Platinum Editions.
I only hope that The Hunchback Of Notre Dame will be re-released in a 2-disc version.

The original list was:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Bambi, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, and 101 Dalmatians.

In 2003 Disney added 4 more titles:
Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, and Fantasia

The only reason Peter Pan came before The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians from the original 10 was to capitalize on the re-release of The Return to Neverland which comes out soon, and the direct to dvd Tinkerbell movie, that was supposed to come out sooner, but has been delayed a little.

Thank you very much Simba3!

To be honest, I'm suprised that Peter Pan was not on the original list; after all, it has one of Disney's most iconic characters, Tinker Bell, in it, and is a wonderful, magical Disney movie!

If you compare The Peter Pan platinum edition with any other Disney movie, it wouldn't really make a diffrence if you consider the special features that was inside the movie.

I agree with these statements. I'm satisified if they are 2-disc sets regardless if they have the title Platinum Edition slapped on the cover. All the animated features are deserving of 2-disc sets. I just ask that they are fully restored and that they are presented in their original theatrical aspect ratios - not like Robin Hood where the Most Wanted Edition is croppped (matted).

i think it will be pinachio and then fantasia. then they should start re-issuing!! the platinum editiions. not re-releasing with no features but re-issue with no changes or little changes such as a better restoration and/or new cover. i have said this for years mainly because i only missed the first 2 platinums. it would make more sense to me to simply re issue instead of trying to come up with all new features. jusy my opinion

Replace "best movies" with "most popular animated features" and you're correct. :)

I'm really hoping they release Pinocchio as a platinum. People are always saying it's the most technically perfect Disney film made.

Pinocchio and Fantasia, I'm 99% sure no Platinum titles will be re-released as part of the Platinum line

Pals, we've known for some time, and the Jungle Book insert confirms that the 2008 Platinums will be 101 Dalmatians and Sleeping Beauty.

Well, I agree, but I'm actually happy that Pinoke has been delayed. I mean, I love it and I consider it one of Disney's best, but I saw it this past summer for the first time in about ten years, and I really need to watch it a few more times to get used to it again.

Pinocchio is certainly my favorite pre-Little Mermaid Disney Classic! Can't wait for its PE.
Also I wish they do not restart the "Platinum circle" already in 2009... I'd really appreciate if they'd end it with Pinocchio and Fantasia before coming again with Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, etc...
But I do think they are going to launch Snow White in 2009, because if they don't, 2010 is going to be a really odd year with the two strongest movies of the collection (SW/BatB).

So, i think it's gonna be:
2009
- Pinocchio
- Snow White
2010
- Fantasia
- Beauty and the Beast

And for the next generation I agree some movies should be added to the collection, like Dumbo, Alice, Pocahontas, Tarzan (and maybe Mulan and Hunchback... but it's more my desire than my oppinion  )
Keep moving forward!
