Cover Art (The Best & The Worst)

Ha! Well, a lot of times Disney re-releases children's books based on my favorite of their movies with different covers. So I buy the same book with a different cover if it's nice enough.

If I had looked more carefully, I would have seen they are different characters. Honestly, if theyhad the poster fill the entire front, instead of showing it kind of leaning back and not centered, then I would like it much more. Anyway, I think having her painting centered and then the two guy's on the sides or their heads looking up at it on the bottom would be a good idea. As for The Black Hole, no, I have not seen it, because aIt's not about something I'm usually interested in, b)I've read countless times on the internet that it is a terrible movie, and c)You just listed, yourself, a fan, some horrible things about it! But if it means that much to you Escapay, I might rent it along with When Harry Met Sally, because my mom took that one back to the store before I could see it!

I have to say, jrboy that is a FANTASTIC cover, as well as a BRILLIANT cover for The Princess Bride! It combines the Princess or Pirate choice of covers from last time, so you get to have both, sort of, and the title is just genius with how, upside down or rightside up, it still reads "The Princess Bride"!

Despite me recommending it so many months ago in an e-mail, Disney Duster still has not had the benefit of witnessing Meg Ryan faking an orgasm! wrote:As for The Black Hole, no, I have not seen it, because a) It's not about something I'm usually interested in, b)I've read countless times on the internet that it is a terrible movie, and c)You just listed, yourself, a fan, some horrible things about it! Hehe, yeah, The Black Hole really is more an indulgence for scifi fans than for Disney ones, and is still an acquired taste for scifi fans. Most of the people who say it's terrible only do so because they unjustly compare it to Star Wars, and talk about how it's so un-Disney (well, not as un-Disney as The Watcher in the Woods). It's really more an escapism film, one that people go into not expecting much, being pleasantly surprised at how good it actually is, and leaving satisfied. The dialogue is really what hurts the film, but even that can still be overlooked by the effects and the themes presented in the story. I mean, a lousy movie like St. Elmo's Fire (well, I don't think it's lousy, but I know plenty of people who do) has two benefits: good dialogue and good soundtrack. One of the main reasons I called The Black Hole slow was partly because the first time I watched it I fell asleep, but when I watched it again, I was more intrigued by it (then again, the first time I watched it was at like...11 pm after a day of work at MK). Also, it takes a while for the story to really get rolling, though I'm sure fans will argue that it's building momentum rather than just being a slow-paced film. The last 20 minutes or so are the best, IMO.

And just as the quote box said, YOU STILL HAVE NOT SEEN WHEN HARRY MET SALLY??? OMG, I'm gonna have to personally go to...well, wherever you live...handcuff you to a chair and make you watch it! Then I'll make you watch Laura, A Place In The Sun, Somewhere In Time, and I Capture The Castle in that order. Well, maybe I'll give you I Capture The Castle before Somewhere In Time, otherwise you'd get two bittersweet movies in a row (A Place... and Somewhere...). Then again...all four of the movies are somewhat bittersweet. Oh well, maybe I'll throw in Ferris Bueller's Day Off to include some lighthearted fun.

Haha Escapay, that name change was nice, it matched with what you said later so it had double humour life. Yea. So, anyway, I think Somewhere in Time is a movie my step-grandmother had that she gave to my grandmother, and they both loved/love it. But I'm not sure...I will ask my mom if it's with Christopher Reeves and other things to see if it's the same movie. I have actually seen Ferris Bueller, and liked it well enough, so you don't have to worry about that one. So, I guess those will be my first to rent, Harry, Hole, and Somewhere. Then we'll talk about what's next. I think you've seen all the movies I really like because most of them are Disney! Uh...ever see Dogville? Hehe...but really, I don't have many favorites outside of Disney! What I can I say, I like watching drawings move...well drawn drawings and well animated moves.

There is so much to say, I...I cannot find the words. Except for these: Disney Dust wrote:I think Somewhere in Time is a movie my step-grandmother had that she gave to my grandmother, and they both loved/love it. But I'm not sure...I will ask my mom if it's with Christopher Reeves and other things to see if it's the same movie.
It is, and once you see it, you'll know who said the quotename. ;) Of course, I could have easily used "Come Back to Disney Dust", but that wouldn't make much sense. :P

The film was Reeve's first movie role post-Superman, and is very beautiful to look at and listen to. It's such a breathtaking depiction of 1912, and John Barry's score is easily in my top 10 favorite movie soundtracks (and is one of the few I actually bought on CD rather than download online). The story is a bit farfetched (I'll let you discover it when you watch), but that's easily overlooked by the sheer *want* by the audience to have these two characters together. I literally fell in love with the movie when I first saw it, and make it a point to try and view it at least once a month* simply to have that feeling I get when I watch it.
What do you think Disney Duster is gonna do? / He's gonna be a fry cook on Venus! wrote:I have actually seen Ferris Bueller, and liked it well enough, so you don't have to worry about that one.
Yay! :D
Harry, ask Sally to plug up that Black Hole with some Disney Dust...you guys can find it Somewhere in Time! wrote:So, I guess those will be my first to rent, Harry, Hole, and Somewhere. Then we'll talk about what's next.
Woohoo! I expect a full report when you're done.
If Disney Duster likes Dogville, does he have an undying love for Nicole Kidman like I do? wrote:Uh...ever see Dogville?
Unfortunately, I never even heard of it, so I did a quick wiki, and based on the first few paragraphs, and the realization that it has Nicole Kidman, it actually sounds like a movie I'd be interested in (even if it didn't have Nicole Kidman)! Will rent it soon (well, once I get around to getting a Blockbuster card or Netflix account), and provide my thoughts at a later date.

Scaps

*Well, it's not strictly once a month (like every third Wednesday or something...), but it's on my shortlist** of movies I often find myself watching much more times than many others, even if I've seen the movie and bonus features countless times and there are still a pile of movies I have yet to watch, or a pile of movies I've only seen a couple times, or a pile of movies that are allegedly "better" than some of my favorites.

**Sunrise, A Song of Two Humans, Bringing Up Baby, Camille, How Green Was My Valley, Now, Voyager, Laura, The Yearling, A Place in the Sun, The Band Wagon, Peter Pan, Sabrina (1954), The Ten Commandments (1956), Some Like It Hot, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Splendor in the Grass, The Graduate, The Wicker Man, Somewhere in Time, Mommie Dearest, Supergirl, Clue, Legend, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Dirty Dancing, Empire of the Sun, When Harry Met Sally, The Silence of the Lambs, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Client, The Prince of Egypt, The Cider House Rules, Galaxy Quest, and my paltry three additions from the 2000s so far, Chocolat, The Notebook, and I Capture the Castle.

Okay..36...maybe that wasn't a short list after all...to break it down even more...

Bringing Up Baby, Now, Voyager, Laura, A Place in the Sun, The Band Wagon, Peter Pan, The Ten Commandments (1956), Splendor in the Grass, Somewhere in Time, Clue, Legend, Empire of the Sun, When Harry Met Sally, Aladdin, The Cider House Rules, The Notebook.

16...that's better...but if I were to narrow it down to 6...

Bringing Up Baby, Laura, The Ten Commandments (1956), Somewhere in Time, When Harry Met Sally, Aladdin.

I can't do anything less than 6. Well, I probably could, but I doubt I'd want to watch The Ten Commandments every day even if it's my favorite of favorite of favorites. So I guess that's my definitive (until my mood changes) choices for most rewatchable movies in my DVD collection. Which is odd, because Legend used to be in the 6, but over the past year, I've found myself watching it less than I used to. Hmm. It's also puzzling that there's no scifi films. I generally like scifi films, but don't watch them as often as I do others. Must be the lack of an emotional connection for me to the characters. I'll watch Spock die and be reborn again, or Luke taking Vader's mask off, but not shed a bloody tear; yet hearing Elise say "Is it you?" or Angela tell George "Every time you leave me for a minute, it's like goodbye", it'll always get to me.

Here's my first few covers I'll post here:

BEST:

Image

Tiny bit biast I know, as this is my all-time favourite movie but I just think that out of most Disney DVD cover art, this is a wonderful cover for a platinum edition of this film. It keeps the spectacular style of the original video box art, put in a key moment in the film on the cover and also have the more reconisable characters from the movie and merging those together in the same sort of stuff they do normally for platinum edition box art and the end result works totally well and is instantly reconisable.

Image

This is really good too because very stylish and looking at it even without the words or logos you can be reconise what the movie is. Plus, unlike the other cover art for previous video releases of the film, it manages to be reconisable but at the same time not too cheesy.

Image

Yet again, very reconisable but also does the movie good justice!

Image

Very stylish and true to the movie, the lighting on the character shots gives it a more cinematic feel as well.

Image

This has to be the best Harry Potter cover art for any DVD of the movies I've seen so far. It's just dazzling stuff, it does the film very good justice (and so it should, it's the best HP movie so far) and even the colour scheme was perfect because it was right choices for the movie but at the same time dosen't over-elaborate on the darkness of the movie. Mervellous! :D

WORST:

Image

This is a good film but this cover looks very rushed and cheesy. It basically looks scrapped off of the poster and splodged onto the cover. Not good.

Image

I don't know if this is the official cover but I really hope not. I really, really liked The Simpsons Movie but come on, that is a very dull cover they made there. If I didn't like the movie or if I wasen't interested in The Simpsons anyway, I wouldn't of cared.

And that's all for now!
