The King of Italian Horror, Dario Argento's little-seen, thought to be long-lost in Paramount Pictures' legal hell, 1971 giallo and the completion of his famous "Animal Trilogy," has finally be announced for debut on Region 1 DVD from Ryko Distribution, who handle all of Blue Underground's releases.
Street date is February 24th and the list price will be $29.95, but horror fans and Argento completists will be stoked beyond stoked if this release turns out to be the full, 100% real deal and word so far is, everything should be set. Though the sentiment among fans is "I'll believe it when I'm holding it in my hand," I'm actually going to bite the bullet and believe in it.
Amazon.com has also a listing up and wants $26.99 for it (with the $2.99 s&h, it'll be the same amount as just about any store). Extras are supposed to include original trailers, poster & still gallery, and additional opening & closing credits sequences in English. The sound is Mono-only, but that will be good enough! The film is presented fully uncut (as it says on the cover) and in its' original 2.35:1 widescreen ratio.

News of this blessed event has now leaked onto IMDb! And I'm not talking about the message boards!
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0104787/news#ni0619749
Wikipedia talks about the movie's unfortunate home-video history, to give a little background into why this is such a huge event!
So, even the big guys think it's legitimate now. It's only a matter of time!
Other big news on new releases, Dario Argento's television series, Door Into Darkness, is making it's way onto DVD:

And the gay themed horror film that caused a considerable amount of stir last year, Otto-or Up with Dead People, is soon in coming-

This one's for LittleFuzzy, who mentioned an interest in getting a copy when I featured in my Horror Digest, Vol. 3 (of course, 2 years ago it was out of print and only available on eBay):

Troma's finally released a 2-Disc Special Edition with all the same bonus features, plus a quite large batch of new ones. Some reviews:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/44457/th ... -out-there
The new bonus features include: video introductions to the film, a 30+ minute interview with the director on Disc 1, and short films by the director with introductions on Disc 2, and a new solo audio commentary with the director that I'm told goes into a lot more detail on the film and how it was made.
It's available right now.

I know what that's like! I've been luckier than to be that hopelessly stuck for 2 years but it still really sucks (I spent my $100 Christmas work bonus on presents for others). Damn economy (never liked it much to begin with but now it really blows).littlefuzzy wrote:^ Groovy!
Now I just need to get a cash flow started again so I can buy some DVDs! I haven't been able to buy ANYTHING for almost 2 years!
