Duh! Why did I say they died?! They are reborn from their ashes. I guess I really wasn't thinking. Dumbledore even said that in Chamber. Wow! I feel sheepish:
I made this post on IMDb concerning how WB may approach the film adaptation and decided to post it here. I'm not putting this in white because by this point, any person walking into this thread without having read the book is being foolish, especially the the word "SPOILERS" in the title.
* The first chapter at the Malfoy mansion will probably be removed. All it really does is set the mood for the rest of the book and let us know that Voldie's hiding here. At the very most, we may get a minute-long version of this scene, and have Harry waking up to it at Privet Drive, similar to Goblet of Fire.
* Harry's birthday party may be cut out, and instead Scrimgeour will approach the trio sometime during the wedding. To do this, though, they'd have to have him arrive before the wedding. By having it there, we can still show Harry before the Polyjuice potion and still have Shacklebolt's patronus arrive later announcing Scrimgeour's dead.
* Bill and Fleur's wedding will be there, but shortened. After the "I do's" and such, we'll probably only see enough to overhear Muriel briefly talking about Dumbledore before the Death Eaters arrive. Krum will be cut, and when the Hallows symbol manifests itself later in the story, Harry will just say he saw that on Xenophilius Lovegood's robes. The idea of it being Grindelwald's symbol either won't be there at all, or Hermione will make the connection herself via another book.
* The Ministry break-in will be shortened. Harry will probably not enter Umbridge's office, but instead see the lockhart on Umbridge immediately and follow her. Ron may or may not get split up from them to stop the raining room.
* The camping scenes will be handled via montages. Quick, interspersing shots of them nabbing groceries, relocating from place to place, shivering at night, sitting around bored, etc.
* Harry and Hermione won't visit Godric's Hollow under the Polyjuice potion. It'd rob the emotion from the film to have another actor as disguised Harry cry over Lily and James' graves. They'll probably visit under the invisibility cloak and then remove it once they find the grave, allowing for Bathilda/Nagini to see them and lure them into the house.
* The entire doe patronus, sword of Gryffindor, and Ron's destruction of the locket scene should play out exactly like the book. The only difference would be when it takes place. I can see them doing it the same night as Harry and Hermione's escape from Nagini.
* The visit to the Lovegood's will be removed, which would sadden me if only so we could see Luna's room and the portraits. Luna may explain about the Hallows either in the prison or at Bill and Fleur's home, depending on how much time is spent there (see two points below this one).
* Lee Jordan's radio show will probably be removed, even though I'd like it in (if only for the Snape and shampoo line).
* Bill and Fleur's home can be cut out and the conversations with Griphook and Ollivander taking place in the Malfoy dungeon. The only problem, though, is where can everyone land after Dobby apparates them out. I suppose we can see enough of Bill and Fleur's home to have Dobby's funeral and to know that Luna, Dean, and the others will be safe. Then the trio and Griphook will probably leave for Gringotts immediately without staying.
* The battle at Hogwarts will be severely cut down (unfortunately). The spiders, centaurs, and giants may be cut out, though I hope not since that would link this film nicely to the others. I'm too lazy to think of how it'll be cut down, I just know it will, especially the stuff inbetween Harry's arrival and Voldemort's voice over.
* Snape's memories will be drastically shortened. The two separate scenes with Snape, Lily, and Petunia will be combined. We may get a replay of worst memory scene shot for Order of the Phoenix (actually, this would be an opportune time to show the whole thing and not the edited down one that ended up in the final film), followed by Snape apologizing to Lily. There will probably be only three quick Dumbledore/Snape scenes: Snape coming to Dumbledore for help to save Lily, Snape yelling at Dumbledore after Lilly's death, and a combined scene with Marvolo's ring, Dumbledore ordering Snape to kill him, and how Harry must die. Instead of Harry going to Dumbledore's pensieve to see all this, he'll probably use legilimency to see it to save time. I expect the whole sequence to only be about five minutes, with the biggest losses being the Hogwarts Express and sorting hat scenes.
* King's Cross purgatory will be condensed. I expect it to be two minutes at the most, maybe three.
I expect everything after the above scene to pretty much play out as it is in the book, only faster paced. The epilogue will either be the end of the film, or will be at the end of the credits. If it's the latter, then the final scene of the main body of the film won't be the trio in Dumbledore's office. There'll probably be an additional, more conclusive scene showcasing everyone one last time on the Hogwarts grounds (every Harry Potter film to date minus the first one have essentially created their own ending scene).
I'm sure there are other shortcuts they'll take, but I've already exhausted myself with this list. This film is going to have to be at least three hours, whether WB likes it or not. The narrative won't make any sense from a purely cinematic view if it's cut down to two and a half hours. I do think WB will be more lenient on the running time since this is the last film, and final entries tend to be the longest in a series (Star Wars, Back to the Future. Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spider-Man...okay, the latter's no longer going to be the last one, but it was supposed to be). I certainly don't envy Steve Kloves' job.
Disneykid wrote:One question I have is Jo said she got goosebumps during the third film because the filmmakers added something that wasn't in the book that ended up foreshadowing something in this one. Anyone have any idea what it was? I was thinking it could be Snape risking his life to save the kids from Lupin when he was actually unconscious during this scene in the book
Either that or the scene of Dumbledore and Snape walking through the great hall and stopping next to Harry. I believe Dumbledore said something about lettimg him dream for now. Though I am not sure wether that was in the book or not.
I remember in Prisoner of Azkaban after Lupin transforms, Snape comes out of the Whomping Willow and looks right into Harry's eyes and says "There you are, Potter!"
I know somewhere online someone did a really hardcore essay about like every change Cuaron made in the film that JK Rowling might have been referring to.
Myself, I was always secretly hoping it would be something something really lame , and JKR made note of it to drive us all insane with speculation. Like Cuaron decided to give Hermione a pink sweater, and JKR was like "OMG HERMIONE TOTALLY GETS A NEW PINK SWEATER IN DEATHLY HALLOWS, HOW DID YOU KNOW?!?!?!"
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"

or Draco crieing like a little baby.
"oh my god, he's totally gonna cry in Half-Blood Prince"
Well after disruptions from things like food, personal hygiene, play practice, packing for Disney, and my grandfather's 90th Birthday party I finished the book today!
What I liked:
*The getting Harry to the Burrow.
*The MOM/Umbridge stuff
*The story of the Three Brothers
*Rita's Book, 'The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore'
*The Room of Requirement.
*Percy! (I yelled "Yeah, Percy!" at my book!)
*Harry talking to his dead family & friends
*The Battle of Hogwarts
*NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH (I again yelled at my book "Molly?!?!" )
*Dumbledore's Chat with Harry and flaws
*Harry & Voldemort's little chat after Harry's "death"
*The Epilogue.
What I didn't like:
*Not giving Fred a Kid named after him. (There Ginny's kids too!)
*No Lockhart cameo (last book, I craved another.)
*Kid told me about Dobby but still wish was still alive, well him and a bunch others in the 79 deaths in the book).
*I want More Kreacher
*Too much Polyjuice
*Did Hermione let her parents know who they were again?
*Something felt missing throughout the book but once they snuck back into Hogwarts with Minerva, and everybody there it felt like coming home (even if there was danger afoot.)
*I wanted more "Tom's" than "Riddle's" when Harry was talking to Voldemort but I'm nit picking.
Was I the only one who cried during the Epilogue? I mean it's really over everybody! Now all we have left are Nov. 21st of next year for the second to last film, the last film after that and Jo's encyclopedia!
Does anyone know what that whimpering creature on the floor was in the "King's Cross" place where he spoke to Dumbledore?
And here's a funny fact: I read so fast I often skim over words without paying close attention to them. It wasn't until the third book that I realised that the headmaster was named Dumbledore, for the past three books I had been reading it as Dumblemore
candydog wrote:Does anyone know what that whimpering creature on the floor was in the "King's Cross" place where he spoke to Dumbledore?
I'm pretty sure that it was Vodemort's soul (Horcrux) that resided in Harry until he died. I think that it was a young Voldemort, young. Now that Harry is "dead" Voldemort's soul is also "dead", killing a Horcrux. I hope that made sense.
"When Lavender Brown almost got bitten by Fenrir Greyback and Professor Trelawney threw those crystal balls down on him HAHA." -- PeterPanfan.
Honestly? That is in the running for being my favorite part of the book. I love Trelawney so much, and though Lavender and Parvati are ditzes, it is nice to know that at least a few of the students are close to her (versus consistently thinking she is a fraud).
PeterPanfan wrote:Page 626(I think you know what it is ;])
I don't know what you're talking about. Please elaborate?
That'd be very nice since not everyone here got the Scholastic version. I, like others here got the Bloomsbury one which is only 607 pages long, so page 626 doesn't even exist.
I can only guess that it has something to do with the showdown, but can't think of more.
It's referring to the scene where Ron and Hermione FINALLY kiss. The funny thing is, PeterPanfan's comment doesn't even apply to the Scholastic version, either. The big event is actually on 625 (yes, I have it memorized).
Oi. Am I the only one annoyed by the epilogue? I mean, come on. Harry and Ginny really didn't belong together, and neither did Ron and Hermione. There definitely should have been a son for Harry named Fred, or at least a middle name (maybe it was James Fred?) And Albus Severus is the most awful name I've ever heard. We should DEFINITELY have heard more about Teddy than that he was snogging some girl. AND!! Who was he snogging? They said something about her being, like, their cousin or something?? What was that?? I hated the end.

No, no. I hated it as well. Harry and Hermione seem like such a better couple. Ginny was so annoying in HBP when she told Hermione off for yelling at Harry. I wish Rowling had killed Ginny, I would have loved this book even more. And about their children's names, at least Ron and Hermione had better tastes in names. (Hugo is the best name ever!)
Rowling should have just left the Epilogue out entirely. We should have been left with the image of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in Dumbledore's Office. Heck, I was even going to rip the epilogue right out of my book if my best friend hadn't ask to borrow it.
Teddy was snogging Victoire, Fleur and Bill's daughter. If you do the family tree, you can see how it works out. In any sense, people are bound to be disappointed by the epilogue, because someone's always upset by a pairing. I persoanlly am fine with Ron & Hermione and Harry & Ginny. It's not like Hermione & Harry ever really had a shot, or anything implying potential, for that matter. Also, I liked the name Albus Severus. It was sweet when he said he was named sfter the two bravest men he'd ever known. And, you know, maybe it should be Ron's job to name a kid after Fred. He should pick up some slack, the lazy jerk.
