Although I am not a big fan of Jim Carrey I might go see this because according to imdb.com the rest of the cast to be motion-captured (is that a verb?) is amazing:
Colin Firth (I'll watch anything starring him)
Robin Wright Penn
Gary Oldman
Cary Elwes
Michael J. Fox
and the list goes on.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks a little like Count Olaf?

No, you're not. But that doesn't surprise me, since the roles are kind of similar.
I am very excited about this movie and I guess it will look pretty cool. I've never been a big CGI-fan, but this motion-capture technique is very interesting and might make for same great effects and new ways to look at actors.

I'm definitely getting a Count Olaf vibe from that poster, and the bottom half reminds me of the opening shot to Universal's Peter Pan. Like I said in my Beowulf review, I don't understand the point of motion capture if you're going to make the character look like the actor in question. If anything, that makes the character appear even more strange since it draws direct comparisons to a real life person. I hope Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson realize this when they do their Tintin series.

I'm very impressed with just the poster! Yes, it is very Count Olaf-ish, but I love Lemony Snicket, so that's just fine with me! I'm really excited to see more!

I got the train tour e-mail as well, but... they're not coming to Canada. :(

It's an interesting promo. I don't think something like this has been done for a movie yet. We did have something similar put on by Canadian Pacific Railway a few months back to promote the upcoming Winter Olympics.

At the very least this will be a rental for me. I am not a big fan of Jim Carrey, although I did like him in The Truman Show, I can't exactly picture him doing Ebenezer Scrooge. I also am not thrilled with the idea that Carrey will also be playing all the ghosts as well. My main reason to rent this would be to see Colin Firth.

The image of Ebenezer in the email was clearly influenced by Carrey. I kinda like it.

Richard Williams version of A Christmas Carol

Post by Deco King »

The Canadian Animator Richard Williams did a superb animated short version of A Christmas Carol in about 1968 ( ? ) using the voice of the late Alastair Sim , it's a really marvellous little film , and alas , still not available on DVD!

You can check it out on You Tube!

That poster has a very nice, illustrated story-book feel.

I just read A Christmas Carol over the holidays, and I believe I was the only one in my class who enjoyed it. The perfect book to read aloud.

Can't wait to see this movie!

should be a decent movie. though seeing him in the make up makes me want to see a sequel to series of unfortunate events. *sigh*

Is there any chance of that still happening? Im guessing not. the kids are probably too old.

The kids are too old. Browning stars in the Uninvited, and she seems a bit older.
