this is weird. are they trying to get rid of overstocked dvds? part of their "Buy 3 get 1 free" promo included some of these same dvds (Robin Hood, Hunchback).

next time i'm at costco i'm going to have to pick up the Great Mouse Detective. for only $12.49, this is just too good of a deal to pass up.

Yeah. I suggest that you view Treasure Planet before purchasing it. I bought it the day that it came out. And I personally really loved it.

Wow. Great Mouse is a great addition especially at the discounted price if you don't already have it!

I picked up Great Mouse Detective last night for $14.99 at Target along with a couple copies of Alice in Wonderland. Wish there was a Costco around here; with the price savings of a few dollars on each, I could have convinced myself to buy the new version of Bugs Life too.

Anyone know if Sam's has these titles? I really want Great Mouse Detective!!! Although I already own Bug's Life (Gold Collection) I don't mind upgrading if it's that cheap.

I'm wondering, how is the animation and picture quality for this movie/DVD? I haven't seen the movie in over 10 years and so I can't remember exactly what the animation's like. Is it more like the lower-quality Black Cauldron, Rescuers, Aristocats, etc? Or is it more like the Little Mermaid and Rescuers Down Under? I'm asking because I was thinking of picking this up eventually but probably won't if it's got the poor animation. It's hard for me to watch movies with cheap animation multiple times. Thanks.

I saw a bunch of Disney DVD's for only $16 at Wal-Mart today, and I was sorely tempted, but I was holding out for Dinotopia.

I wanted Hunchback, but I might get it in the Buy 3 deal, but I may go back for Robin Hood and Treasure Planet.

I think the animation is closest to The Little Mermaid's than any other animated film.

Honestly, GMD is one of those movies where I just don't get why it isn't held in higher regard. The score is one of the best of any of the Disney movies, Basil is a really whitty, fun hero, and the villian is one thats easy to hate. It also has a great climax. I think it's on par w/ TLM.

Awesome, thanks. Sounds like I'll have to pick it up some time. :)

I don't think this has been posted yet: the length of the Price Reduction was listed at my local Target as being from 1/27 - 3/22.

Finally, someone I can relate to! There are no Costco's here on the east. We have BJ's and Sam's. We went yesterday and I dont think I saw Great Mouse Detective there.

But what was really odd was the Disney DVDs they had around Christmas. There was this huge box set of 15 or 20 Live Action and Animated Disney DVDs! The only ones I remember were Tron, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Atlantis, American Legends, and some of the sequels. But I know there were more!

p.s. I already have the very first VHS release of Great Mouse Detective so is it worth it to get the DVD version? What's in the "featurette, 2 shorts, scrapbook"?

Treasure Planet DVD Price Reduced

Post by rnrlesnar »

I was looking at the Disney Store.com dvd section to see if I could find anything to use my Visa Reward dollars on, and I saw they had Treasure Planet for $12.99. I was about to get it, then saw that they charge $8 for standard shipping, so that defeated the purpose of the sale. I looked to see if Bestbuy.com had a reduction, and they did, selling it for $14.99 with free shipping. I went ahead and got it, even though I've never seen it. I figured it's one of the "classics", so I might as well get it. Is it worth the price? I've heard mixed reviews on it.

Yes, I believe that it is. Treasure Planet is incredibly underrated IMHO. It is an extremely novel futuristic adaptation of R. L. Stevenson's classic tale.

I just picked up Robin Hood for $12.99, thanks to the coupon in Alice in Wonderland. I have the Bug's Life previous release. Is the new one that much better than the previous release?

I would also like it if someone could shed light on the "featurette" that is on the Great Mouse Detective. Unforutnately, I think this will be the best edition put out by Disney so if the features are good I will pick it up.
