I think those pictures are great- I think that Maddy is pretty. I was upset when Alan Menken was taken off and Randy Newman was put on this movie. I'll be satisfied, though, if the characters themselves sing, and not Randy Newman. It's a Disney Princess film, for goodness sake! Let the princess sing! I'm hoping we'll know more about that sometime in the near future.

it's actually not based on any of the existing frog princess stories. It's an original script that John Musker and Ron Clements wrote.blackcauldron85 wrote:I know it's based on an original story...I'm thinking either Maddy or the prince turn into frogs. I like the story of "The Frog Prince", but this will be different...I wouldn't mind if she turned into a frog. As long as she turns back into a human princess.

Oh, I know. But I'm curious as to whether or not it has any similarities with an existing story. And, even if there were no "The Frog Prince", we know that Maddy is a human princess. We know that the title is "The Frog Princesses". There must be something linking frogs and Maddy.PatrickvD wrote:it's actually not based on any of the existing frog princess stories. I hadn't seen that picture on the left before- great design! Or the third picture- fun design! In the second picture (the close-up of Maddy), it almost looks like she has blue eyes. But, shouldn't she have brown eyes?I think that Alicia Keys' voice is so recognizable that it might distract from the movie (but, what about Brittany Murphy voicing Tinker Bell...
). I don't know what Anika Noni Rose's voice sounds like (I haven't seen "Dreamgirls"). I have nothing against Jennifer Hudson- I was a fan when she was on "American Idol". Is she qualified? There's so much hype about "Dreamgirls", and, not having seen it, don't know how she'd do. Disney should hold auditions and just choose the best voice, not necessarily the buzz-person of the month.

The Frog Princess
I think she does have blue eyes there. Anyway, I've seen a few African American people with blue eyes! It's rare! There's nothing wrong with rare traits. After all, red hair is pretty rare, and Ariel has it!blackcauldron85 wrote:In the second picture (the close-up of Maddy), it almost looks like she has blue eyes. But, shouldn't she have brown eyes?
Anyway, you seem to think the Frog Princess is only a female version of the Frog Prince. But there is a real fairy tale called The Frog Princess that existed long ago! It is different from The Frog Prince. A king sends his three sons to find a bride, and one finds a frog princess under a spell! And when the King tries to see who the best bride will be, the frog does everything better than the other sons's brides. Like Cinderella, it has different versions, but the main, and perhaps more famous one seems to be the Russian version. It's not your fault for not knowing this. I never knew until I looked it up. You can read about it at this Wikipidia article. But I believe Disney officially said this was a "female spin" on The Frog Prince, so it might be just like you thought it was, The Frog Prince with the roles of the prince and princess reversed. Or it could be a completely new original story, which is what it sounds like!

I love the artwork so far, especially the last pic. It reminds me of a children's book illustration (I mean this in a good way), and I hope the final design of the film is similar to that.
One thing I'm wondering is the concept of Maddy being a princess. If this is 1920s New Orleans, there's no way for her to be a real princess. The only thing I can guess is that Maddy is crowned princess of some sort of jazz festival (the last pic I was talking about shows people in costumes). Maybe she'll pull an Aladdin and lie about being royal through most of the film (when in frog form). I wish we would get a detailed plot synopsis.

Yes, yes yes... This is all very good news, but as DisneyKid said (in page 1), what on earth is happening to Rapunzel!? It seems we're not hearing of it lately, not even on www.jimhillmedia.com.

Who cares about Rapunzel? We've got a 2-D animated Maddy now!!Julian Carter wrote:Yes, yes yes... This is all very good news, but as DisneyKid said (in page 1), what on earth is happening to Rapunzel!?

Anyway, I think I'm really gonna love the Frog Princess. I think it will have some of the "Dreamgirls" elements in it.
As for Maddy's royalty issue, maybe she is the lost princess of the frogs (incarnation) just like the little girl from "Pan's Labyrinth" was the lost princess of that secret kingdom.

well, if you had simply read Disney's press release you would have knownDisney Duster wrote:But I believe Disney officially said this was a "female spin" on The Frog Prince, so it might be just like you thought it was, The Frog Prince with the roles of the prince and princess reversed. "The Frog Princess" is based on an original story written by Disney's acclaimed filmmaking duo John Musker & Ron Clements ("The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "Hercules"), who will also direct.

Re: The Frog Princess
Then maybe it has nothing to do with frogs!PatrickvD wrote:"The Frog Princess" is based on an original story written by Disney's acclaimed filmmaking duo John Musker & Ron Clements ("The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "Hercules"), who will also direct.
Something else came to my mind right now; What if "Frog" is the name of the jazz club where she sings and when she becomes a major star she is known as "The Frog Princess"?
Do you think that they are considering to change the movie to 2D? That would be great!!!PatrickvD wrote:as for Rapunzel, I think the fact that we're not hearing of it can only mean one thing:
major retooling.

I'm really excited about "The frog princess"! I think that she must be turned into a frog at some point at the movie, as long as there are singer aligators...

They took us to a magical journey under the sea, they show us how a beautiful girl can look into a heart of a beast, they even made us fly on a magic carpet...
Someday the magic will return!

In Beauty and the Beast there are singing objects but Belle is not a teacup or a clock. Anyway, if she has to be turned into a frog I hope that it will only be for a little while. A whole movie with a frog as a hero would be a big disapointment for me.Gwildor wrote:I think that she must be turned into a frog at some point at the movie, as long as there are singer aligators...
