Prince of Persia!!!
Apparently according to gaming sites like Kotaku, Disney has denied that Orlando has been cast.
I hope he's not. That one casting decision (be it true?) shows in one tiny microcosom everything that is wrong with modern big budget movies.
You want somebody to play a arab prince, who's main ability in the source medium the film is taken from, is a highly developed athletic ability, and you cast a white, British, skinny, streak of... whiteness... for the role.
And what's more you pay him $40m to do so.
INSANE. On all counts.

Ugh. I love Orlando Bloom, but he was JUST IN the Pirates movies. Can they not get a fresh perspective on ANYTHING they do? Now these movies could be too simarly compared to the Pirates movies. Come on - there is a wealth of actors out there!

I just came on here to say the same news-

I don't know much about "Prince of Persia", and I have nothing against Jake, so I'm indifferent about it, I guess. But I wanted to share the article!
I'm glad that you're glad, though, xxhplinkxx!

Well we may as well go back to the days of the Black and White Minstrals and Boris Karloff painted yellow and having slitty-eyed make-up to play Fu Manchu. Who needs social progress? Not Disney apparently.
What a sad, sad day. And it shows how bankrupt Hollywood is, when it places "star" quality over the actual requirements of the character(s).
And like I said before, I bet the baddie(s) will be played by Arabs.

Persians are usually fair skinned, so getting an English actor is ok, but I don't want Orlando to be the prince coz he's already Will Turner.
Jake is officialy the prince, now that I checked, and what a great selection, Jake looks like a Persian friend that I have so that's kinda awkward !
And yeah, they're probably gonna get Arabs to be the baddies, no race scares western audiences more than us !

I usually don't question Bruckheimer's decisions.....he is almost always right in making smart choices. I can't help but wonder, though, if Mr. Bruckheimer has even played the games or is looking to please the purists who love this game franchise which has spawned enough popularity to garner film rights from Disney.
In all honesty (and I'm a big Gyllenhaal fan normally), Jake Gyllenhaal would not make a good prince. Not because of his acting ability, but because of his lack of physical prowess on screen. Part of what makes the prince such an interesting character is the narration heard throughout the game telling the story (which I can't imagine Jake pulling off a Persian accent), as well as his ability to run along walls, leap through cities like a cat, and take out guards and stuff stealthly. I just can't believe that Jake can do all of that successfully. He might see it as an acting challenge, but the public will see it and laugh at it. I just can't envision it working.
I strongly don't believe that Zac Efron is a good choice either. As much as I hate to say it, Orlando Bloom would be the best choice out of the popular rumored actors possibly playing the role. At least he looks a little like the prince and I can imagine him running along walls and such. His accent would be rather goofy to hear too, though.
If I were to cast this film (and this is coming from a big fan of the franchise) I would cast a no name. Someone who looks like the prince, can carry a physically demanding role, can act, and won't make us laugh with the possible narration that will be done.
My possible suggestions:
Rodrigo Santoro - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0763928/mediaindex
John Abraham - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1303433/mediaindex
Hrithik Roshan - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004335/mediaindex
The reason I'm still making suggestions is that we have gotten "confirmation" time and again that different people have been cast to play the prince......here's hoping that Gyllenhaal is just another phase that they are going through. Ugh! I can't believe they actually think he might make a good Prince of Persia !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hm. Rodrigo Santoro does look like he'd fit the part, but as for not seeing Jake being able to do all the action stuff, I think that's just cause he's never really had a role like this. Give him a shot. Who knows, maybe he'll impress you.

You know, RuPaul can pretty much pass for a lady, but I guess you wouldn't be so accepting were she to have been cast as the new Bond Girl?Jack Skellington wrote:Persians are usually fair skinned, so getting an English actor is ok, but I don't want Orlando to be the prince coz he's already Will Turner.

I don't know how you guys can tolerate movies like "Jesus Christ superstar", that's Blasphomy BIG time !ichabod wrote: I'll look forward to Disney's film version of the Bible with Lucas Grabeel as Jesus.

I'm not a Christain but I'm offended by these things since we have to respect all our prophets.
Thank U 2099net, I really respect people like you

But we get a lot of tourists now and they probably go back home with a more positive view on us and our culture, that's why I like the new tourism investments in my country, I just want more people to know that were not the blood-sucking vampires that the media present us to be were actually really kind and friendly human beings, honestly 9/11 is a sad event to us as much as it is to someone living in Manhatten.
But I can't deny that there are some real big a**holes where I'm from,
I actually got in a fight with a classmate who did a Nazi salute with his arm in front of an English teacher I really respect, just because I'm not Jewish or English or French doesn't mean I can tolerate someone doing a thing like that, Hitler was evil and he killed so many innocent people based on their religion and anybody who would do anything related to Hitler is just a total a**hole and I don't regret kicking his rearend !
