I saved it from mousebits.com (I just joined), and for some reason my computer will not allow me to watch it. I have pressed the "Open" button, and it opens a new window, for a few seconds, and then closes. Any ideas?

Your computer is obviously offended by the racial images, language and concepts inherit in the film, and thus refuses to play it.TheSequelofDisney wrote:I saved it from mousebits.com (I just joined), and for some reason my computer will not allow me to watch it. Um, I don't think so.2099net wrote:Your computer is obviously offended by the racial images, language and concepts inherit in the film, and thus refuses to play it.TheSequelofDisney wrote:I saved it from mousebits.com (I just joined), and for some reason my computer will not allow me to watch it. Maybe you're missing a step or something. I think a more logical reason it's not downloaded is because you don't have the right software installed like I do. Do you have RealPlayer? Because it's worked just fine for me with that.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Um, I don't think so.2099net wrote: Your computer is obviously offended by the racial images, language and concepts inherit in the film, and thus refuses to play it.

Films must be PC to play on a PC.TheSequelofDisney wrote:I saved it from mousebits.com (I just joined), and for some reason my computer will not allow me to watch it. I have pressed the "Open" button, and it opens a new window, for a few seconds, and then closes. Any ideas?

By the way, that's not Bobby Driscoll; it's a young Reginald Kenneth Dwight.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Yes, I have RealPlayer. I still don't know why it wouldn't work though.Big Disney Fan wrote:Do you have RealPlayer? Because it's worked just fine for me with that.

Do you have the VLC Media Player? If not, download it. Maybe that's why it's not downloading. Also, you need BitComet. And then once it's finished downloading, highlight the film tab and click "OpenDir". It will open a downloads page with all the downloaded stuff from Mousebits there. Then you just click on SOTS and you should be on your way to your laughing place!TheSequelofDisney wrote:Yes, I have RealPlayer. Just go to Yahoo or Google or someplace like that and type in "VLC Media Player" and go into the sections. It should at or near the top of the search results list and click into there. Just find the "download" button and you can't miss it.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Can you give me a link to that, please?Big Disney Fan wrote:Do you have the VLC Media Player? If not, download it. I've downloaded it, but I still cannot seem to play SotS, or Cindy III that I saved onto my computer awhile back. Any suggestions?

Of course, the obvious solution would be to digitally remove said collar à la Lindsay Lohan's bosom in Herbie: Fully Loaded.Escapay wrote:Renata and I have said it time and again. The only thing offensive about Song of the South is this:

What an offensive lace collar! Johnny should be ashamed of himself!

Yeah, if we want to talk about lace collars and SOTS and everything else like that, let's do that elsewhere, capisce? This is a thread for the future of WDT, not a tired argument of SOTS never being released, okay?!MikeyMouse wrote:I think some of this back-and-forth questioning could have been handled via PM to keep this thread "somewhat" on topic, no? I just read through 3 pages of posts that had nothing to do with the future of the Treasures line.

Well that's a bit rich from someone who's only contribution a couple of weeks ago was to tell us that there was no point writing letters to Disney. When you've got something fresh to add yourself, that might be the time to criticise other people for discussing Song of the South, which came out of speculation that it could be released as a future treasure. Not that far off topic.Big Disney Fan wrote:Yeah, if we want to talk about lace collars and SOTS and everything else like that, let's do that elsewhere, capisce? That's just it. We should have just mentioned the possibilities of it being part of the Treasures, which was all to the good, until we got off-topic arguing about lace collars (which I'm pretty sure was what boys had to wear in those days). We should get back directly on topic. If you want to talk about the movie being on the Treasures set, fine, but if you want to talk about small stuff on the movie itself, let's do it elsewhere, alright?darth_deetoo wrote:Well that's a bit rich from someone who's only contribution a couple of weeks ago was to tell us that there was no point writing letters to Disney. I've got a SOTS - Treasures question...
Why would Disney even hesitate putting SOTS in a Treasures release when it has all sorts of talent to read 'disclaimers' about 'society way back then...' etc?
Maltin, Roy, Beck, and, of course, the PC talent like Whoopie or James Earl Jones or Cosby...all could calm the waters.
Warner's Tom & Jerry collections have a long sermon by Whoopie on each disc to explain and apologize for the "Mammy" character.
I can assure you if Walt hadn't passed away in 1966 and he was still at the helm, SOTS would be a featured Treasures release today, and would have been a US release on laser years ago. A special interest group says, "BOO!!" and the suits run like roaches in the daylight.

Five whole posts about lace collars versus twelve whole posts about how to download the movie from some internet site. Yeah, ichabod, renata, and I really hijacked this thread, didn't we?Big Disney Fan wrote:until we got off-topic arguing about lace collars (which I'm pretty sure was what boys had to wear in those days). Pot, this is Kettle. Kettle, this is Pot. What's that Pot? You're calling the Kettle black?Big Disney Fan wrote:If you want to talk about the movie being on the Treasures set, fine, but if you want to talk about small stuff on the movie itself, let's do it elsewhere, alright?

Anyway, back to the Treasures and Song of the South. Regarding the disclaimers that GreatOz talked about, I will always remember the internet buzz surrounding the probable and serious release on DVD back in the day (I want to say 2000, but I'm not sure), and how it was halted because they asked the wrong person to do a disclaimer. IIRC, they approached Maya Angelou to do a disclaimer for "Song of the South", but rather than accept it, she was dead-set against it, and refused. That little scare caused them to take a few steps back from release, and they didn't think to ask anyone else. But they did get James Earl Jones to do introductions for the American Legends DVD in 2002, which debuted the new John Henry short. That DVD, I think, was the "testing-the-waters" disc to see how people would react to the material (though there's nothing really wrong with it).
What I always wondered was why the Treasures alternated between 4 sets, then 3 sets, then 4 sets, then 3 sets. It's only on Wave 6 that we got a 4 set after a 4 set. Was material held back for Waves 2 and 4 that led to having only 3 sets? I know that OTFL was delayed, as were True-Life Adventures. It could be possible that Song of the South was one of the delayed sets. Of course, all this is speculation, not really serious discussion, but it makes one think.
