I'd have preferred a Beast Wars film, to be honest... it was the first (and so far, only) TF series to have a cohesive plot, 3-dimensional (both literally and figuratively  ) characters a fascinating story.
Well it does have a cohesive plot, but you'll have to forget reality and full immerse yourself in it to believe it. The characters are 3 dimensional to an extent. Like they're believable but the romance between Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox is contrived and is predictable and a bit unbelievable. But the actors do what they can with the roles. Has it been released in the US yet?
EDIT- Don't worry, I'm an idiot. Just looked at the title again. Don't see why Australia got it before you guys.

This is probably the most hyped I've been for a movie this summer. Even slightly more than At Worlds End. I hope this is the movie event of the summer, but I still have my fears that it will be a huge 2 to 2 and a half hour mess.

Up until two days ago I hated the new Megatron. That was until I saw the 15 second piece on Letterman the other night. He looks and sounds amazing. Why I don't know, but I thought he would sound like Agent Smith. He doesn't, and I will say that the old Gen 1 voice would not have worked for this new design. I'm still glad that they used Peter Cullen for Optimus though. As far as I'm concerned he is Optimus Prime, and the movie wouldn't have been the same without that voice.

Shia's acting in the Megatron scene wasn't great though. One of the lines that he delivered was just cringe worthy. Thats one of my fears now. How will the actors do when they honestly had nothing to work with. Hopefully it want get too "cheesy".

A sequel has already been given the green light, so Transformers 2 is around the corner. Some of the plot for the sequel may have already been leaked out unless they change their minds.

*Potential Spoilers for the 2nd movie ahead... maybe*

Take this as all rumor, but its just some information I've read online lately. They were originally going to have Unicron (The giant planet eating Transformer from the Gen 1 movie and show) show up in Transformers with James Earl Jones as the voice, but it was cut out. I read a rumor that this may now be used as the plot for the sequel. Immediately I thought of the old 1986 movie, and I really hope they don't do it as a remake.

This also goes for the character Arcee as well. She was originally in the Transformers script, but was replaced with Ironhide. Maybe she will appear in the sequel now, cause I'm sure if she was originally planned they probably have some ideal of what she will looking like, etc...

Don't know about you but I am going to the 10 pm showing tonight of Transformers. Here in Kansas it officially opens tomorrow July 3rd, and they are having pre-showings tonight at 8pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm. Got my tickets for the 10 pm showing and can't wait.

I still don't understand what "meh" means or is supposed to mean. I have never heard it before, and don't know anywhere else on the net that I see that word. Is it some kind of Disney thing, or what?

The trailer looks mediocre and this is Michael Bay we're talking about so, sadly, no, I will not be seeing this flick.

The only part of Transformers that I'm looking forward to is Shia LaBeouf. I think he is a very talented actor. With that being said, I'm not in a mad rush to see this. It'll be a rental for me at best.

Oh cool, a sequel's already in the works. As soon as I walked out of the cinema I said that they'll make a sequel, so I guess I was right on the money. I look forward to it, even though everyone else isn't.

Yeah two of our theaters are doing a 8pm showing tonight too. I decided to wait until tomorrow to see it at the other theater. Better seats, etc...

I'm hearing good things so far about the movie. The only complaints have been the acting sometimes, but I figured that it wouldn't be a masterpiece with the acting anyway.

Has anyone heard the new Transformers songs by Stan Bush? He did the songs Dare, and Touch in the original movie. They were submitted to be in the new movie, but didn't make it. Very 80s sounding, but really reminds me a lot of the old Transformers music. I've only heard Til All Are One, but I will say its better than the Transformers theme they put on the new soundtrack.

The best thing to do, is to not get your hopes up. I'm sure you'll love the movie, but just in case you might get disappointed, I wouldn't have my hopes up. I personally thought it was really good, and the acting was great, but that's coming from a person that's never watched Transformers before. Shia's pretty good in it, though he did do some cliched lines, but it is an action movie, and as you said, he wasn't given much to work with. Rachel Taylor, the blonde chick in it, is an Aussie, and I'm surprised that she kept her Aussie accent. Anyone know why? She was prepared to do it American, but they wanted it Australian. Even being Australian, it slightly annoyed me, but apart from a few cliched lines and the accent, that's about it for the crap acting. Josh Duhamel, Bernie Mac and Jon Voight are all pretty good in their roles.

I've tried not to get my hopes to high, just in case I end up disappointed. Its hard though. I was super hyped for Spider-man 3 and left the theater almost hating the film cause I was so disappointed. Then again I am a big fan of the Gen 1 show and movie and they are full of horrible lines, etc... Then again its target audience was kids, and it was basically used to sale the Transformer toys. I've read that this movie has a few nods to the old show and some classic Gen 1 lines in it as well. That should be interesting.

Oh well... hopefully it goes ok. Planning to see the 10:50 showing tomorrow morning. Will report back with a thumbs up or down vote I guess.

Ok.... I got back from seeing the 9:30 showing at around 12:10 Central Time USA...

Anyway first off I want to point this out..... I have heard of Transformers before but I know as much about the origins of Transformers as I do the origin of Jack In the Box... Meaning I have no clue who is who... But I picked up on a few characters such as Optimus Prime and Bumblebee and Those two kind grew on me.... I Loved it!! Now Whether or not its faithful to the original 80s cartoons I have no clue. As Much as I loved Pirates 3.. The plot was easy to follow... and I like movies where the plot is easy to follow although you do have to pay attention to the movie.... but maybe that's just me that the plot was easy to follow..

I would Highly recommend it to any Transformers fan or anyone who thought this film looked decent but for those that don't know the origins like I do... I'd Pay attention to every detail because it Might be hard to follow..... I think they did a superb job with the films visual effects

I would give this film 4 out of 4 stars

Whether or not I will see it again in theaters I am not sure... But it is defintley worth seeing in theaters at least once. But I might see it again..... Or at least buy it when it comes to DVD..

I saw the preview last night and I thought it was o.k. To long overall (2 1/2 hours + 20 min of trailers), but surprisingly funny (though most of the humor was adul related and I think that some parents who take their kids to see it will be upset). Of course there was alot of fighting, but it was to realistically portrayed to be as enjoyable or absurd as the cartoon. Not sure if I like it better than the 1986 movie, but I think most people will like it.

My rating: 2.5/4

I saw this movie yesterday at 8pm. I didn't have any clue of who were the Transformers (I went because my boyfriend wanted to go) but I LOVED the movie. It really was entertaining, the plot was easy to follow and I liked the characters (especially BumbleBee).

I can't tell you if it's faithful to the original cartoons because I didn't even know there were cartoons before yesterday, but it's definitely a good movie! But don't bring kids there with you, the ones that were there last night really looked bored!! lol

So many people don't know who the Transformers are? They were everywhere in the 80s. Transformers, He-Man, GI Joe, etc... those were the days... :)

Anyway I overslept this morning so I'm going to catch an afternoon showing. Really excited after reading a few things. The nods to the old show and movie are some of the things I'm looking forward to.

Can't wait to hear Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime again.

TRANSFORMERS is a rockin' good way to begin the summer. After the slumpy start with all the "three" movies, it is about time we get a film that is as entertaining as a movie should be. And all of you Michael Bay naysayers out there, better pack up your six or eight bucks and haul your derriere to the theater and see this film. It is not one to miss on the big screen with big sound and all.

Yes, the acting is a little stiff, but who cares when the real stars are the Heroic Autobots and Evil Decepticons. This is one action movie that clicks along at a breakneck-pace and stuffs three-hours worth of action into a very quick-feeling two hours and twenty minutes. The music fits the movie, and I don't remember the original music from the cartoon series, but the stuff they have here is very memorable and I will probably be getting the soundtrack as soon as it is available.

Josh Duhamel and Shia Labeouf share the screen with Tyrese Gibson and Megan Fox with John Turturro and Jon Voight in major supporting roles.

Don't be too critical of this film unless you have seen it, they didn't show you anything in the trailers, which is a good thing. Steven Spielberg is the Executive Producer and the CGI effects are probably the best we have seen so far. I really think that this movie will be the one that kicks the box office sales in the butt and brings us to a record-breaking summer box office in movies.

And a word to those who are going, don't skip the credits at the end. There is something there that you won't want to miss.

Just got back and it was amazing. Sure it had its faults and I think Megatron scared the small kid behind me (they left when Megatron showed up, but returned about 10 mins later), but I was completely entertained and left the theater wanting more. 90 percent of the people left when the credits rolled, but stopped when the additional scenes started. People don't leave, it actually is a nice scene (the last one, there are three).

Bring on the sequel! 2009 will be a long wait.

Cullen was Optimus and his voice work honestly gave me goosebumps when I first heard it. The story, while pretty simple worked. Out of all the Autobots and Decepticons I liked Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Frenzy. Frenzy was comic relief at times, and it worked great. He sort of reminded me of a robot gremlin at times. The only character I honestly didn't like was Jazz. I don't think he was that great. His lines were horrible, and he was annoying at times.

Starscream wasn't used to his full potential. Actually none of the Decepticons were. Hopefully in the sequel they get more screen time.

Anyway excellent start to the summer movies for the 4th, and a great start to hopefully a very successful Transformers movie series.

Glad to see people are liking it... I'll likely see it this Friday, as I prefer going to movies on Friday or Saturday nights.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure about the designs at first, however it's plain that they do in fact seem much more appropriate against a real-life background than the relatively simple robot forms in most cartoons. I'm still hesitant about the questionable teen/romance plot... I'd have preferred the main human characters to be a bit older; but I can probably live with it. They can't possibly be as pathetic as the humans in the old G1 series, lol... they were so stupid you actually had sympathy for Megatron's contempt for them.

Well, I can name many movies that have played this summer that really kicked it off:

Knocked Up
Ocean's Thirteen
1408
Live Free or Die Hard
Ratatouille

But, I admit this film is great fun. It's Michael Bay back to his balls-to-the-wall action style, which is a total blast. I also had no clue who the Transformers were, but I still thought the film rocked. I'd give it a B-, and the minus is only because of the somewhat draggy length. :D

Ok well I had not planed on seeing this until some friends dragged me. Also I had not played with the toys as a kid or watched the 80's show (although I watched Beast Wars: Transformers & Beast Machines: Transformers) so I was not all that familiar with the characters. To top that off I really have not been liking Shia these last few years but….

:o HOLY $%*! THAT WAS SUCH AN AWESOME MOVIE! I loved it so much! I MUST see it again!
