I think my list will win the "most unconventional" award...

From Dearest Other Half:

- rose-shaped chunk of Arizona barite

- Box full of 5.25" floppy disks. Double density! Includes DOS and Windows 3.1 goodies! Too bad they're kinda useless and I don't have a drive for them. I can use them for photography projects, though.

- 2000 Wii Points, which I used to download Super Mario Brothers and Toe Jam and Earl this morning. Mmm, nostalgia is yummy.

- cat calendar with illustrations by Gary Patterson

- talking photo frame

- 1989 traffic safety poster featuring Mr. T

- The How and Why Wonder Book of Atomic Energy. Children's book from 1961.

Ain't he sweet?

The rest of my loot will be used towards DVDs, video games, and art supplies. (Don't worry, I'm going to save some, too.)

- Money from grandparents

- Money from mother's cousin

- Money from great-aunt

- Target gift card from Dearest Other Half's mother

It's funny because we don't even celebrate Christmas, but today we got one big present -- FINALLY, a Tivo. Only took 3 or 4 years of asking for it...

Finally got my So NoTorious: Complete Series!! Then I got:

Private Parts (1972)
Dead Ringers (1988)
American Psycho (2000) : Killer Collector's Edition
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) : 2-Disc Collector's Series Edition
Critters (1986)
Child's Play (1988) (yeah, they say a Special Edition might come out next year, or the year after that... But I Can't Wait That Long!)
Halloween - 25 Years of Terror (Documentary, 2-Discs)
Masters of Horror: Dario Argento - Jenifer (2005)

and... the ultra-hard-to-find Special Edition of Valley Girl (1983). MGM practically discontinued this DVD (as they also did with Jeepers Creepers and Legally Blonde) and re-issued it with a mere FRACTION of the original bonus features - just the Commentary and the Trivia Track. But this has got the MOTHERLOAD of features: 3 Featurettes on the Making of the Movie, 2 Music Videos, Video Commentary, Audio Commentary, Trailer, 80's Trivia Track. I can't wait to see this stuff, and I have to thank my wonderful, loyal friends for going the extra mile to track this down for me.

After that, I got a great Box of Chocolates, a Blanket and Sheet set (from the Martha Stewart Collection - ), and $160 in cold, hard cash. Not a bad haul indeed!

Yay Laz! You got a hard-to-find SE flipper!

I despise MGM's early practices of:
1. Issuing a special edition as a flipper disc with movie on Side A and bonus features on Side B
2. Deciding to take it out of print and re-release the film with whatever's contained only on Side A
3. Mislabeling some cases and making the consumer think they're getting the SE flipper, but when they open the gorram case, see it's the barebones re-release!

Got burned when I picked up a Thelma & Louise: Special Edition, only to open it and find the "regular" edition which just contained commentaries and deleted scenes. Had to track down the older version that I knew to be an SE because it had a (*gasp*) slipcover. What would have cost me $10 ended up costing $27 since I bought the movie twice. Poo.

On the plus side, MGM's redeeming* themselves by re-releasing or soon-to-be-re-released the SE's again as the proper two-disc editions they should have been (The Producers, The Usual Suspects, Fiddler on the Roof, etc.)

ETA: Realized I didn't post what I got for Christmas yet! Hehe. Well, we didn't open the presents yet anyway, so no big loss!

Escapay

*redeeming = initially thanks to Sony wanting to cash in on otherwise successful releases by spreading it out on two-discs and hoping the consumers would buy it again, then thanks to 20th Century Fox for doing it properly without flooding the market. Now then...where's my two-disc anamorphic special edition of The Graduate?

That is really screwed up! But, I wasn't in the market for a Thelma & Louise Special Edition yet. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy it, it will be a 2-disc special / deluxe edition. It certainly deserves it.

The worst thing about all this is that MGM never exactly announces it. Then, the retail chains (or whatever you want to call them, I don't know that much about them) don't announce it either. They just sell whatever they've got until MGM replaces their copies, after they order more. Or don't. Which is probably how my friends snagged me my copy of Valley Girl. I even made sure to check the disc, I just put it in my player - It's All There (except the Trailer, which is probably just on the opposite side). I'm wicked happy about that - I love this movie.

By the way - I just got another Christmas present - it's used, but not very. A new TV - stereo. And larger than my old smaller, Mono-only speakers. I'm SO happy about that!!!

Well, I've been very busy playing with my new toys that I got this year for Christmas... :D As a family present, my dad got us a brand new 42" LCD Flatscreen TV, as well as a new DVD player with HDMI, all of which is hooked up to our gigantic speakers. Pretty darn amazing if you ask me. :D :D Besides that, I (personally) got:

The Emperor's New Groove: Collector's Edition DVD
Sleepy Hollow DVD (the one with Johnny Depp)
Duma DVD (however, my mom accidentally bought the FOOLscreen version, so tommorow, we're going back to Walmart to see if we can find a widescreen version and return the other one)
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire (yes, the novel!!)
"20 Best of Celtic Moods" (CD- I LOVE Celtic music!)

a new mousepad (needed new one badly!) with a misty black & white waterfall
Aquolina- "Chocolovers" (perfume)
Spiral-y earings (silver)
silver ring (that's really cool and unusual!)
Handmade Native American bracelet (sterling silver) with turquise stones.
pretty dragonfly bookmark
bath brush (Bath and Body Works)
green fleece socks!! (very warm!)
marzipan potatoes (YES POTATOES!!! )
maple candy
"Pomegrante Powder Puff" (REALLY sparkly/shiney powder found at Bath and Body works!!)

And there's probably a few other things missing, but that's all I can think of right now. :) The only thing I was dissapointed a little about not getting was the Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest DVD. (My mom even explained to me that she thought paying $25-$30 for a DVD like that is insane. But she tried to find it at a better price). That's ok. I'm planning on buying it at some point now, MAYBE even before the New Year, that is, if it's on sale (I'm now running low on $$ after Christmas presents).

But in case you were wondering, I've been away from UD for most of the day because I've been a)watching my movies (TENG and Sleepy Hollow), and b) helping my dad with his new iPod. So now I finally had the chance to post my Christmas list. It's been a pretty good one for me! And again, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! :santa:

Wow everyone got tons of things this year. I envy all of you! I got, as I said before, both Britney DVDs that I wanted, the Brokback Mountain DVD, the first two Nip/Tuck seasons, a Winnie the Pooh calender, a new watch, a new hat, some boardies, the book "Misery", some new cleansing products, and a lot of food, like chocolate, and lollies.
I would say that Aaron, Siren's daughter, Lazario, the Sequel of Disney and Jrboy are all very lucky. I would kill for the presents that you guys got, especially Aarons! You got I Heart Huckabees, I'm really jealous! Although, I am really happy about getting the DVDs that I got. Nip/Tuck is a really good show, and I'm looking forward to watching all the episodes. Brokeback Mountain is a fantastic film and I can't wait to watch and rewatch it (with the remote in my hand throughout it  ). And of course the Britney DVDs are must-haves. The Greatest Hits- My Prerogative DVD is so well-made, it's possibly the best music DVD available. It has so much on it, it's unbelievable. So many surprises and so much history. And the Chatoci one is cool, cause it has the two other clips that she made, plus more photos of the wedding. I haven't got around to watching the episodes yet, but I can't wait. I've heard that she's going to do the show again (obviously changing the name of the show to not include Kevin), but it's unlikely.
So anyway, Merry Christmas everyone, and have a great New Year.
-James
