You are right. My apologies. You know what is really funny about that...I am the one who initially annouced Aristocats went out of print. Boy do I feel stupid...too many things going on right now I guess. I have corrected my post.

I basically agree - though I guess I wasn't really very patient myself when I collected Disney laserdiscs in the 90s...

The somewhat "experienced" of us know that "never" in "Disney-speak" usually means seven years or so...

For those of you still wanting Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition, Amazon's got it listed in stock (though how many they have is unknown)and it says it will take 1-2 weeks for delivery.

Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition ($20.99)
(Use this link to support UD!)

:)

I've already got two copies (one with crappy cover art, one with perfect cover art), so I'm passing.

Wait a minute! If it's OOP, how is it on sale new at Amazon?! Anyways, if I order it on Amazon, will it come with a slipcover?

Wow!! I just bought 3 of them (through UD's link, of course ;)) and maybe will plan to buy more. One to keep, and two to sell. This is one I've been after for a while.

On occasion, Amazon will acquire a small stock of out-of-print stuff. I remember last year, they had quite an amount of stock of Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume 1[/quote]. Was gonna buy a set, after the warning of "Only 10 left in stock!", but learned later that Pals bought their remaining stock.
DisneyFreak5282 wrote:Anyways, if I order it on Amazon, will it come with a slipcover?

Doubtful since slipcovers are only made for the first printing and this is likely from later copies that Amazon dug up. But how often will you find a reputable online seller that actually has Sleeping Beauty up for grabs? It's been out of print for nearly 3 years now (once January 2007 rolls around), I'd rather be happy it's available regardless of that (censored censored censored) slipcover.

Do you feel like the Sleeping Beauty SE is worth getting, then? Or would it be best just to wait for the PE? I'm not the greatest fan of SB (in fact I don't think I've ever seen it - bad Disney fan, I know) but I'd still like to own it someday. Does anybody thinks that the PE might be less good then the SE?

And, just to stay on-topic: due to the wonderfulness of the Trade section of this forum, I'm just seeking TENG Collector's Edition, but not actively, even though I started my collection in like, August.

Go for the ones on sale right now at amazon!! Its a GREAT DVD that has a beautiful restoration and great extras. I personally was dumbfounded when I heard they were re-releasing it in the Platinum Line just because of how good the 2-Disc realease is. (I might be over exagerating alittle but it is one of the better DVD releases) :) hope this helps

Well, I'm going to America in December/January, so I'm hoping that while I am there I'll be able to find:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition

...yeh, that'll suit me fine :) I've read on UD, Americans stating places like Best Buy, GameStop, FYE, etc. that all sell used DVD's/Sealed OOP DVD's, so I'm praying I find them, and stores like them when I'm over there.

Other than that, if I find these I'll buy them without thinking twice:
The Lion King: Platinum Gift Set
Aladdin: Platinum Gift Set
Cinderella: Platinum Gift Set
9 Limited Issues: Any of them, mostly the ones which don't have a superior Edition out atm.
However, if I don't find the Gift Set's, I know a genuine Disney ebay user who I can buy them off for their Retail prices when i get back from the US, its just the shipping would cost me $45 from him :( So I'd rather buy them in America.

I am going to take a shot at this.

I think Escapay's point is that whether or not it comes with a slipcover does not matter to him/her and it kinda irritates Escapay when someone finds a movie in mint condition sealed DVD espcially new and sealed and from the Amazon.com factory and someone is like. Oh if i am not guaranteed a slipcover then I will not buy it. I mean while i like the slipcovers but if I didn't already own this movie espically with it being OOP for almost 3 years uhh I would buy it anyway for $20. Unless you want to spend another $30 making that total $50 or more for just to get a pretty piece of Cardboard to come along with the Movie and take a chance that it could be fake/import.

Disneyboy pretty much hit the nail on the head. It should be the product that counts, not the marketing gadget or "interactive outer packaging" (euphamism for slipcover). The DVD's already protected by the case and the plastic covering. A cardboard repeat won't do much except take up room.

I've ranted enough about slipcovers that by now it's getting tired. So, rather than be a broken record, I'll just leave it up to the UD reader's imagination as to what was censored out of my opinion of a slipcover. It could have been:

"I'd rather be happy it's available regardless of that (censored censored censored translates into "stupid-ass waste-of-a-tree frickin-page-flapping totally-unnecessary DVD condom and opium of doe-eyed slipcover fanatics everywhere") slipcover."

or maybe

"I'd rather be happy it's available regardless of that (censored censored censored translates into "if I see one I will personally rip it to shreds, take a picture, post it here, and wait for the thousands of fanatics to go, "NOOOO, YOU FIEND!" and start crying and preparing a funeral for the damn piece of cardboard") slipcover."

Or it could be something that isn't said in polite company. ;) Censored just makes it more fun for the UD reader. Make them wonder just what goes on inside the Escapay's brain. I've been told by my friends that sometimes it's a scary place to be.

I don't think you are exaggerating. I think I actually liked the extras on this more than the extras on the Platinums.

In regards to the question of, "Why search for out of print DVDs when they will be rereleased eventually if you have patience":

Not everything gets rereleased. Use the history of VHS as your guide. Many titles only got one VHS release (I'm not specifically talking about Disney, but it counts for Disney too). Plus, sometimes the past releases are superior. Ask Escapay about his search for Supergirl some time. A little aggressive hunting isn't going to hurt ya and can be quite enjoyable and rewarding if you have luck from time to time.

I think the extras on SB and Mary Poppins are even better than what some of the Platinums have gotten!!

As far as slipcovers, yes they are pointless, but to me, it's part of the packaging. I mean, it comes with it. It's part of the package. If you are just going to throw them away, you must as well just keep the disc itself and throw away the case and inserts, too. Although I don't obesss over them, and in fact, I own MP and ABL without them, it didn't stop me from buying it.

But they DO have value! On Ebay, SB for example, with a slipcover goes for around $60-75. Without? Around $30 or so. So, for something to boost the price by $35, they DO HAVE A USE!!

Parent Trap Vault Disney Edition. NOT interested in the Parent Trap TV Sequel. I want the original movie only w/ ALL the Vault Disney BOnus Features.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Some even do that, it seems. A friend of mine started to throw out DVD packaging a few years ago - small apartment and a thousand DVDs.

As for myself, the original packaging is important. But I won't bother to look up slipcovers that weren't there when I bought the disc in the first place.
