The Bambi DVD does have deleted scenes. It's just that they left out some of the more morbid deleted scenes such as the death of Thumper (yes, in the second half, our favourite bunny got murdered) and the bloodier version of Bambi's mother's death (instead of hearing of the death from his father, Bambi actually found his mother lying in the snow in a pool of blood).
Plus, they didn't include the scene where Bambi find's a dead body of Man (by the fire). Several versions were drawn and screened for an audience (I think in pencil-test form), the bloodiest being one of just a dead and bloody arm. Obviously...it was deleted.

I don't think Aladdin is back in the vault. I still see copies (with slipsovers to for those who still need it) all over the place. I thought it would have been put back into the vault by now, but it doesn't look like it has been.

I second that about Alice...its the only 2 disk Disney DVD I still need... (with the exception of TENG:CE, and (possibly) Tarzan CE...but those are very difficult to find...) My local new/used movie/music store was able to "order it" for only 12.95 though...but they couldn't tell me if it would have a slipcover or not...but, I ordered it and we'll se if it does or not...but i'm REALLY doubting it. I know a lot of you here *cough*Escapay*cough* will be wondering why the heck I would wait or forgo buying Alice now that it's pretty much readily available (just with out the slipcover)...well, to be honest, I wouldn't really care if it didn't have the slipcover if it was like the more recent ones that dont "open like a book"...and to be honest, I love the ones that do! and all my dvd's that are supposed to have slipcovers have them (EXCEPT SB...but I got it brand new for 18.99 a year ago...and I felt that the set was too hard to find to pass that deal up...but I do regret it not having a slipcover...it looks a little out of place when compared to all my other Disney DVD's surrounding it.. :( )

Wow...I'm really sorry about that long rant...but anyway, as far as Aladdin, I agree that it's long past due to go back in the vault...it's now going on three years since it was first released on DVD!!! And they're already putting LatT and Bambi back in the vault!

Hi brotherbear, Alice in Wonderland does open up like a book. You know what you should do? You should just put all your slipcases away and leave all your dvd's without them. That's what I do. Everytime I buy a disney dvd I always put the slipcase in a plastic sealable sleeve to prevent them from getting old and ugly. And then I put my dvd's in a box that Ikea sells. I'm really picky everytime I buy a dvd I expect the slipcase to be in flawless condition, you guys may think that's dumb, but that's just how I am. I really like my dvd's to remain scratch free and in good condition as long as I have them.

alice in wonderland does open like a book - and its cool :)

I think it was discussed that Aladdin hasn't gone back into the vault because its not grossing as many sales as many other movies. But see; I think its great that it didn't, because It gave me a chance to pick it up last year. (I finally decided to upgrade to dvd; before, all i had was vhs). throwing things into the vault merely because its been out there for X years is kind of dumb in my opinion and i know it heightens the rareability & cost but still. if they were all available, there would be hardly any bootleggers out there (and disney wouldn't lose money from all the private sellers

Beatboyravenz - no that's not silly. I'm very careful with my slipcovers to. I expect all my property to be in great condition; most of my books (even the ones I buy used) still look for the most part pristine. if i'm spending a lot of money they better look good lol

i'm the same way about the slipcovers, i always become picky with the platinum editions and regular 2-disc special editions.

I'm sure I've seen some deleted scenes, but I haven't watched the bonus material since I bought the DVD. I'm not sure that I'd want to see those morbid deleted scenes...that's pretty sad stuff right there.

Loss of Member Posts?

Post by Disney Duster »

Well, I didn't want to make a new topic for this, and it's semi-related. After Cinderella came to DVD, that was the last of the Animated Classics that weren't on DVD. So after that, there seemed to be less excitement, less activity in the forum! I'm guessing it was just because everyone completed their Animated Classic collection. When big releases like Lady and the Tramp and The Little Mermaid came out, their weren't as many members posting about them, because they already had them in some form. The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition thread was mostly comprised of the same few fans.

Does anyone else think that since all the classics came to DVD, there has been less activity and less posts from members?

I think there's still the same amount of activity, but there's been less posts of substance from members. When was the last time we saw big essay-length paragraphs discussing aspects of animation, a specific film, or any other part of the Walt Disney company? More and more it seems like nothing but "when does this come to DVD?" "I love The Little Mermaid!" "Where can I get a slipcover?" and "Does anyone remember such-and-such..."

I wanna have a lively debate again, filled with arguments and opinions that go beyond "This movie sucks and you suck if you like this movie!" or "I love this movie/well, I don't/well screw you/screw you too man!". I wanna see people excited to read threads and think to themselves, "Wow, I never knew that! This is a great read!" instead of "Another one-liner that adds nothing new? Dammit, that was a waste of 5 seconds of my time!"

I swear, if I see one more thread about The Little Mermaid, I will go berserk. I won't even click to read if it's any good. I'll just go berserk and rip up whatever paper I can find in my room, starting with the pile of slipcovers I plan to sell in a couple years when slipcover-fanatics drive up the prices since Disney Customer Service won't send them anymore.

I'm afraid now that if someone starts another Little Mermaid thread, Escapy will be so mad he will bring up the "Secrets, Stories and Magic of the Happiest Place on Earth" thread just to make every one mad (to put it mildly)

But to be more on topic I do think that intrest in Disney DVDs has declined since the debut of Cinderella on DVD. It seems that no one cares if Disney actually gets around to realesing "The Story of Robin Hood" "Rob Roy, the Highland Rouge" or "The Sword and the Rose" to DVD and that some people are more excited about Direct to Video movies (in the case of Cinderella 3 I am guilty of). Now that the company's animated catalouge has been exposed to DVD at least once, most people are content with the DVDs that are out because they may not be familliar with some of the older live action films that could start multi-paragraph debates about how "matte paintings are supiror in this film" or "Richard Todd is a better actor than Dean Jones".

I think that more disney fans should get out and rent or buy more of the live action films and TV shows so that we can all start commenting and debating and getting excited about the unrealesed titles of that section of the company's catalouge. Otherwise Escapy (and others) will be really bored with the fourm.

(from the online petition to stop making more Little Mermaid fourms :P )

If he does, he already knows what his fate will be (it was in his sig, for crying out loud). ;)

I do think there's been less activity on the boards, but I don't think it's because of the animated classics all being on DVD. It seems we've simply run out of things to talk about. Heck, we're even having new threads on topics discussed in-depthly ages ago. I also think (and I hope no one takes this the wrong way) that part of the problem is that the boards have gotten filled with casual DVD buyers. When this site first started out, it was filled with Disney DVD fanatics who were into every aspect of a release. Many of them were also in the their 20s and above (I was one of the few teens). Now we've got more teens and pre-teens on the site, many of whom (but not all, so I'm not generalizing) buy DVDs but don't know so much about DVD presentations and history. This results in a lot of the one-sentence posts Escapay mentioned. This is why I left another Disney message board that I was a frequent poster in. It got filled with too many younger kids who posted fluff in threads that were no longer interesting. I don't think this board will meet the same fate simply because we've always got DVD releases to look forward to, but I have noticed a decline in substance around here.

It could be worth a banning. I could go in there, write a long and drawn out new press release, then at the end go, "Oh by the way...that's totally fake".

Or I could mock a one-line poster and post this:

when this comming otu to dvd? I want itt so bad and the 50th anniv is alraady over! come on, dinsey!
Disneykid wrote:don't know so much about DVD presentations and history.
And all of it can be found just a click away here at click-click-clickety-clickface from Clicktown, Clickania, which leads to another gripe/rant. (which I've decided after re-reading several times, to put in white after the first paragraph. Sort of as a way of warning you guys now, that I'm a little harsh. If you read it, know what you're going in to. I'm gonna be harsh towards a general attitude I've seen at UD, and I'm gonna be harsh towards a general population at UD, but I'm not singling anyone out, I'm not saying everyone's doing it. I'm just saying to use your God-given brain and you won't feel offended.)

Ultimate Disney is the Premiere Disney DVD News and Reviews website in all of cyberdom. It has been cited by the likes of Roy E. Disney, Leonard Maltin, Disney itself, etc. It strives to bring its site readers thorough and detailed reviews, informative and interactive news and schedules, and fun and enjoyable contests. An extension of this site is the wonderful forum, a place where regular site-goers and newcomers can discuss Disney DVDs, movies, tv shows, and a variety of other topics. It is, always was, and always will be a DVD News and Reviews site first, forum second.

And yet it seems the majority of newcomers have no idea there is even a site beyond the forum! Does it really take THAT MUCH effort to scan a page and think to yourself, "Hey, what's this link go to?" It goes to...OH MY GOD...it goes to a site dedicated to EVERYTHING you need to know about Disney DVDs! You know what that means? No more coming to the forum, going "Hi, I'm new, and wanted to know if (insert Disney movie) is on DVD yet? Does it have the slipcover that will make me go weak at the knees and have multiple orgasms just at the sight of it?"

It's RIDICULOUS and INEXCUSABLE to join this forum and be that ignorant to not realize that the nice little banners and links at the top of the page to go a lot of other helpful pages that can get you a DVD answer in a hurry without posting a thread and wondering after two hours if someone will finally answer it. How many times have we seen "What's the (insert Disney movie) DVD like?" or "Hi, can anyone tell me the Platinum schedule?". IT'S JUST PLAIN LAZY to not look for the answer yourself before asking the question! Turn over your UD membership card, and you'll get it after you've perused every single page on this site, appreciate it and Luke for all the hard work that he and reviewers have put into it, and learn how to do a goddamn search!

Let's say that somebody is thinking about buying the DVD for The Great Locomotive Chase. What, oh, what should that person do? Well, the right person would decide to click on the link marked Live-Action (Pre-1980), scroll till they find the listing for The Great Locomotive Chase, and check if it has a review. Success, it's a link! That means that it will go to...the review itself! Why, that's wonderful! And look, it's got nice things called paragraphs that explain the history of the movie, the summary of the movie, the reviewer's thoughts, and a descriptive rundown of the DVD itself! How long would it take to find this little gem? I tested it, and it took me literally less than 25 seconds to hit the Live-Action link, scroll down a bit, and immediately find the link for Great Locomotive Chase. Now, of course, there are several DVDs that do not have reviews yet. They are few and far between and many are due to lack of time or lack of reviewers available. However, we've seen this remedied, as older titles get reviewed during a quiet release time. Just be patient, and you'll find a UD-ified review for a movie. And of course, UD doesn't have to be the only place to find reviews. There's DVD review sites a-plenty. TheDigitalBits, DVDTalk, DVDReview, DVDVerdict, DVDAllOverThePlace, you get the idea.

Now, going back to this Great Locomotive Chase DVD inquiry. What would the wrong person do? Well, the wrong person would come to the forum, go to General Discussion, click "new topic", and proceed to write the following:

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering, is the disney dvd for the grate locomotion chase any good? I haven't picked it up yet, but want to, however my dad says to make sure its fullscreen because we got a widescreen tv and were told that fullscreen movies will fill it up better. I love The Little Mermaid too!

Thanks,

Newbie McNewman

He'll sit as his computer, leave the screen up, and refresh it every so often. Finally, someone will reply with this...

Hi Newbie!

I don't knwo about that movie, but I love TLM too! Flounder is so cute!

WooHoo O'Dell

So...what was accomplished through that? What was gained, what was learned from that experience? Newbie isn't any wiser, and WooHoo merely contributed the same old point that Flounder is a cute fish.

ENOUGH. PLEASE! I'm sick and tired of having to see 10-15 threads with new posts, clicking them, and finding a one-line reply of "Yeah, I love this movie" or "Anyone? Anyone have news?" It's getting TIRED and it's not cute to come in all new and fresh and internet virginal and asking "Does (insert Disney movie) have a slipcover that opens like a book?" There's a FAQ, a sticky thread about how this forum works, and a brain. Use all three of them, and maybe, just maybe, you'll make a good first impression. But for now, all I'm seeing is a lot of new people who have no idea how to use the internet, this site, or this forum properly.

(Big rant, sure to hurt some people's feelings, but then again, that's what rants do and I'm not sorry. If I were sorry, I wouldn't have written it in the first place.)
