What Fairy Tales Do You Think Disney Will Make Into A Movie

some people are joking around in another thread, saying disney should buy out sailor moon. That got me thinking, in general I think the Japanese folk tale of "Kaguya Hime" the moon princess, would make a really good animated film, and besides Disney could stand to make another Asian themed feature

Yeah, I'd like to see them do something Japanese. For the record though, I'm not an Anime fanatic, just Sailor Moon. She's tied with Ariel and Tink for my top toon dreamgirl spot. I love the other inner scouts too though.

Yea I've gotta admit, I'm a sailor moon fan too. I'm not anime obsessed, but I was waay back in the days of Jr. High, but I still love Sailor moon, too much nostalgic value not to, not to mention the amusingly horrible dubs . But yea, back on to the topic I think Kaguya Hime would be a really beautiful story and the animation (2D!) would look really pretty.

I really want to see a 2-D Rumpelstiltskin made. It was probably my favorite fairy tale as a kid that wasn't a Disney movie. And after seeing "Once Upon a Mattress," I think Disney could make a very good The Princess and the Pea. I don't think Hansel & Gretel has enough story, but neither did Cinderella and that is one of my favorites. lol. I guess I'd be glad if Disney returned to the traditional fairy tale style with any fairy tale. I just don't want another spoof like Chicken Little.

Once Upon A Mattress is a musical comedy of The Princess and the Pea. And as for enough story for "Rumpelstiltskin," I never really thought so until seeing the making of "Cinderella" on the PE DVD. The story team created the whole mice subplot to make it into a feature and then I realized Disney has done this with almost all of their fairy tales. I think the actual base story of "Rumpelstiltskin" would take about 40 mins to tell, but Disney is great at adding back storys and subplots to make these stories into animated classics. I have faith that they could do it. Especially if Lassater or Keane were behind it. I think it would also be cool if Pixar would take a break from their original stories and adapt a fairy tale.

I haven't seen Once Upon a Mattress yet but I bought it and haven't watched it I guess I should.... well Disney is doing Rapunzel so maybe after that is out they will go back and do a 2d fairytale! That would be exciting!

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think WDFA has already started pre-production on a traditional hand drawn feature with Alan Meinken penning the music and it is a play on the fairy tale The Frog Prince. The film is reportedly titled "The Frog Princess" and is the traditional story in reverse where it is a Princess who is turned into a frog and must get a prince to kiss her. I'm excited if this is true.

That sounds cool, I hope they start making fairy tales in 2d it is what I grew up with and although I do like the CGI Animation I think they should keep the fairy tales in 2d. But Rapunzel still looks good and so does tinkerbell but I would still like 2d back.

Town Musicans of Brenem- this would of been a better choice for Home on the range for disney to do.
Bluebeard- though it might be toned down due to it's violent nature of the main character, Blue beard, and the forbidden room.

Snow White and Red Rose- no this isn't Snow White and 7 dwarfs. they could easily change title of story.

i would love to see basically anything from Hans Christian Anderson (they did Mermaid from him, and it still remains my favourite movie).

I think that is really Disney's claim to fame is fairy tales, and they need to go back to the good ole days

Pocahontas was okay - but Hercules blew cookies. Mulan was good too, but Atlantis again blew cookies. it would really depend on how it would play out. to me Disney has gone incredibly lazy.

This computer-animated project doesn't quite fit either of those requirements, but Disney fans have been excited by it for years, even though it has been repeatedly bumped and always off in the distance. Longtime A-list Disney animator Glen Keane (supervising animator of such protagonists as Ariel, Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, and Tarzan) simultaneously makes his directorial and CGI debuts in this new take on the classic fairy tale of a long-haired princess and her valiant prince. Here, a frustrated witch brings two romantically-challenged teenagers from the real world into that of the story, casting them as Rapunzel and her prince. Broadway veteran Kristin Chenoweth (who starred in the Wonderful World of Disney musicals Annie and The Music Man) will voice Rapunzel, while another stage actor (Dan Fogler) will lend his vocals to the prince. While estimated releases have seemingly changed with the years, current plans pin this for summer 2009 release, which gives it plenty of time to stay on schedule.

I'm actually a bit scared of the upcoming Rapunzel movie because it feels like it's going to be so good taht it will further bury classical animation in its grave. The movie just feels like it's going to be the Cinderella/Little Mermaid of Disney CG. which is actually a good thing. sorry i just have a really soft spot for 2d.

Wasn't Disney planning a movie called "Uncle Stitlskin"? where it would have been a sort of sequel to Rumplestiltkin where he would attempt to steal the baby back?

You mean "Bremen" No matter! I know Disney could make a wonderful movie therefrom but I'm a little scary coz there exists still a movie which is horrible....

That's funny- in german original the both Snow whites have different names. I didn't know that they were translated to the same name.

I guess that the neverending story won't be fit as a Disney movie, but thats just my opinion. I would love to see "Mother Holle" from Disney. It's my favourite fairy tale and I just love it.[/b]
